  1. Same incident that happened yesterday. I have assurances that it won't happen again, but I've requested that all my sites get moved to a new server regardless. I'm tired of the B.S. Should not see any downtime due to the move. -Dan
  2. I went with Journey's Evolution, although Styx's Cornerstone was a close second. However, had Foreigner's Head Games been on the list, it would have had my vote... -Dan
  3. I'll toss out a memory from my CD singles collection... NICE MAKEUP! Has 3 tracks: Lonely (Remix) In Dark Places Dream Dancer (from 1st Recording Session)
  4. Tough poll. Really tough... As much as I love the Eyes material, I ultimately went with Talisman just because that S/T album is *SUCH* a monster. Also, you didn't include his soundtrack work as an option... Rich Girl, Rock Star, Biker Mice from Mars... -Dan
  5. Robin Hood, Men in Tights THE reason to pick up the new 8-DVD Mel Brooks Boxed Set. It's the only way to get this as a Region 1 DVD... -Dan
  6. I see that AOR Heaven is stocking the Mariah reissues, so it looks like Retrospect is starting to make the transition to using traditional vendors for at least some of the releases. A good sign. -Dan
  7. LMFAO!!! OMG.....did anyone really ADMIT to that? Or a Chia Pet? Scary thing is that there are still Chia Pet commercials on TV late at night... Here's one: If you remember watching M*A*S*H or The Waltons not in reruns... or If you remember what UHF and VHF were... stations signing off with the National Anthem, then going to the checkerboard target, then snow... less than 10 TV channels total... before FOX or ESPN existed. ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and if you were lucky 3 or 4 UHF channels that ran cool old movies. If you remember the signoff line "And that's the way it is, [insert date]" If you remember before televeisions had remote controls.... TVs having to "warm up". If you remember before there were VCRs. Egads, I'm old... -Dan
  8. Just got a followup email from him. I think I'm going to steer clear of the guy. Eh? The last time I actively sought CDRs and artwork in trades was over 5 years ago, probably longer. I've only been interested in originals for a looooooooong time now. Methinks the guy has me confused with someone else. -Dan P.S. That paragraph is one long sentence... I was out of breath just reading it.
  9. Anybody deal with this idiot? I get an email from this guy "bob from wisconsin" (metalhead@...) wanting to buy CDRs in bulk. He claims that he has 40,000 CDRs in his collection. He writes like a 10-year-old kid with horrible spelling and grammar. He says that he buys hundreds of CDRs a month. I respond saying that I can help him but "I will not make copies of material that is still in print. Only material that is no longer in print in the U.S." Those are the standard terms I've used in my trading for years. If it's in print, BUY IT! I then get a response that starts off as hello dan i know whom you are i am hoping you are not a prick like a lot of people say you are, then goes on to say i do buy copies of recent titles at 4-5 dollars a piece and if i am not good enough to sell to than let me know i will go else were ok Mkay. This is bizarre on so many different levels: I've been out of the active trading scene for several years. Even so I'm unaware of *any* trades (originals or CDRs) that I was involved in that went badly... other than a few with Manny Comres, and those ended badly for me, not him. As far as I knew my trading/selling credentials were impeccable. I told him up front no new/recent/inprint titles, but apparently that is what he is after. Guy just can't take no for an answer. If I am such a prick like "a lot of people say I am", why the hell is he contacting me in the first place? "... not good enough to sell to" Wee bit paranoid, eh? Sounds to me like I'm being scammed by a kid... or have other people dealt with this guy? -Dan
  10. Nudie pics don't bother me as long as they're tasteful (no hardcore please). If it's a problem, just know not to read this particular thread at work... -Dan
  11. Umm.... please spend some time reading. Just when ya thought things had settled down a bit... I'm also a bit suspicious when someone's first post here, in poorly written dudeish to boot, is perfect fodder for getting things stirred up again. Methinks that one of the anti-Retrospect camp just couldn't stand the fact that there wasn't any flaming going on lately. -Dan
  12. I'll second that! It's something I had toyed with a few years back, and then T-BONE reminded me about it again this morning. Would folks really be interested in Heavy Harmonies products (t-shirts , caps, mouse pads, mugs, etc.)? I'd set it up through Cafe Press. Their base prices are somewhat hefty, so I wouldn't be able to mark stuff up much and still keep prices reasonable. Has anyone bought any Cafe Press shirts within the last year or two? I had some test shirts done back in 2000/2001, and the shirts I got faded horribly in the wash, which is why I never proceeded with the plan. However, supposedly they upgraded and changed their printing process a year or two ago and the printing is now more durable. I'll probably set up some designs and buy one or two myself and run them through the wash before rolling anything out officially. In addition to Heavy Harmonies logo/Baneed! are there any other slogans, sayings or stuff you think would be cool to have? I've got one set up with the Brutal Metal logo as well, and I'll probably do one with my CD Sniper logo, just because I think it's cool. Just think, your very own thong with the Heavy Harmonies logo on the crotch! -Dan
  13. I hope you don't mind, I cleaned up the graphics a bit: Now on to BANEED! T-shirts, thongs, breath mints, and BANEED! the Movie. -Dan
  14. Yes, I suggested it as an option. In that case the buyer had CLEARLY been ripped off, no gray area whatsoever. The other big difference being that the seller was not a regular here. Posting about what you intend to do when you KNOW that the seller is reading is not a smart move... also an argument can be made in this case (and has been argued ad nauseum) that the Retrospect CD-R reissues are legit, therefore there is no deception involved. Not necessarily my stance, but there's been enough discussion on that whole issue as it is. I'm just saying that (1) it's not as clear cut a case as in the other example, and (2) there's enough gray area here that the buyer probably will not win a SNAD dispute. -Dan
  15. Gotta agree with Cap'n here. Claiming nonreceipt after posting here that you have in fact received them is dumb, not to mention unethical as hell. You can claim SNAD ("significantly not as described"), BUT the majority of these claims fail. Make sure that if you file with PayPal under SNAD, that you fully explain the CD-R issue. If your claim gets rejected, follow up with a phone call. I have gotten *much* further in disputes with a phone call to PayPal "fleshing out" the details of the situation. The other part of this equation that may result in deciding the claim against you is that while CD-Rs are prohibited on Ebay, they are NOT prohibited when the CD-Rs are officially released by the artist. All Sam has to do is say that they are official releases (which some of them are) and it becomes a giant he-said/he-said, and you will most likely lose. Assuming that you (hopefully) paid with credit card, once PayPal denies your claim, you can file a chargeback with your credit card company. They are much less forgiving than PayPal. (not taking sides here, just pointing out that in this instance the deck is stacked in favor of the seller; PayPal autodenies most SNAD claims). -Dan
  16. You see the "swirly" effect a lot on lower-grade manufactured discs. This is very common on pressed boots coming out of Russia. I don't know if the manufacturers use a lower-grade plastic or what... -Dan
  17. Awww, c'mon! This thread needed a litle levity, dontcha think? -Dan
  18. Love. That. Pic! Then again I've always loved a little pussy... -Dan Now that's something almost all of us can agree on. Except for maybe the female boards members. Then again, wouldn't it be cool if they did agree on it? And then they posted pictures of them agreeing on it! And this one time at band camp...
  19. Love. That. Pic! Then again I've always loved a little pussy... -Dan
  20. I've stayed out of all the mudslinging up until now, but I couldn't let this one go by. So, you knowingly and intentionally rip off current releases, eh? You officially get the "Douchebag of the Month" award. Congratulations. -Dan
  21. Just because you see a separate "ring" separating recorded material from blank space, this does NOT mean it is necessarily a CDR. In fact you will see a ring such as this on virtually any disc that does not take up all the space of the disc. -Dan
  22. I'm not picking sides or anything, but, that was DEFINITELY the most mature, professional way to handle that, rather than through a PM or something. (I blocked out the address so Dan wouldn't have to edit two posts when he sees this.) Agreed, even though it is public information findable online anyway, best that it not be posted publicly here. -Dan
  23. <SPELLINGNAZI>Baton? Who wants to twirl a baton?</SPELLINGNAZI> It's "batten"... -Dan
  24. To nip some potential problems in the bud: David: Please tell Matt that if he is going to post anything here, he has to post specifics, as well as provide some sort of proof as to his identity. There was all sorts of doubts when "wikkid1" first posted as to his true identity. I'm not going to deal with that again. Not only that, but in the Kidd Wikkid thread, a new poster named "glockose" claimed to have all this dirt that he was going to post; even PMed me about it. He disappeared a day later and we've never seen him back again. The problem with this sort of environment is that anyone can post claiming to be someone else. This is potentially serious enough that everything needs to be on the up-and-up... -Dan
