  1. Yeah it's very tough for me to choose. I guess I must vote "No Fuel..." because those songs are just so catchy, and got me into them in first place. But on a different day of the week, it could well be "Riskin' It All" Good to see some fans of this band! I understand about losing track of them after the first two popular albums. For me though, they've got some kind of magic -- it's not all perfect, but some of it is so good every release ('Soft Dogs' the possible exception!) is worthwhile to me. For those that seek the early (NO FUEL) kinda sound but are wary to buy the whole catalog, I would recommend checking out "Scare Yourself" (see 'Unexplained', and 'Camping In Scandanavia' for starters) and the newest one, "dis.NEy.Lan.Daft.Er.dArK" (try 'The End' and "New Age Moving In")
  2. To me, these guys are right at the top. Did you know they were just here, in the U.S? Yep, a date or two in NY. First time in 20 fuggin years. I sure hope the Monsters of Rock folks can work their magic and get them onto the next one. Maybe Krokus, Electric Boys too? Zody and the boys? But I digress... What is your favorite disc from these masters of thinking man's hard rock?
  3. Hey--maybe one of you will know---any way to get our hands on the sntrk tune from "Modern Problems" (movie with Chevy Chase) by the Tubes? Seems to have disappeared into oblivion and it was a rockin' 80's track...crying shame...
  4. Completion Backward Principle!!! "Just save it---save it for another guy!!!"
  5. It's so easy to go with "Once Bitten", as it was promininent in my college years and played a lot. But, 'Psycho City' is a formidable album, and I cannot let it sit at one measly vote. I love listening to that one, it seems like they put their all into it - Psycho City for me!
  6. KarpetRyd...Uncle Sax...I know you, too, are suffering from the "Post-Cruise Blues"! It's hard to believe humans are allowed to have that much fun. How were your experiences? See different bands than me?
  7. Hmm. Well, I think hands-down it is HEAVY METAL the movie!!!!?? But, clearly this poll was before Iron Man. And I must say, Iron Man was a refreshing blast. Before that, I really liked the Spider Man movies, and Batman as well. Of course, the new Batman movies are incredible. In short, I am happy to see the adaptations coming to life. Just felt the need to spread a little "Heavy Metal" love!!
  8. "incredible" is right. It's been over a week and I cannot get that voyage out of my head! Nor do I want to. We'd love to do it again next year as well, if we can manage it. Insane!! Saxon was mighty, arguably the heaviest and most impressive of the voyage....Kix frontman Steve Whiteman was the best showman (in our opinion), with Helix's Brian Vollmer close behind. Wife got funny pic with Jaime St. James and enjoyed the Black n Blue show....Bang Tango rocked hard--opened with 'Don't Count Me Out" and also played two Beautiful Creatures tunes back-to-back, which now has me ordering those discs.....ran into Joe Leste and Lance Eric at the bar, got him to autograph my copy (Love After Death) and pictures.....ran into Biff Byford TWICE, once solo on CocoCay and the other time with drummer Glockler and lead guitarist Scarret (got pics both times).....ate meals next to Jeff Keith (Tesla), Brian Damage (Kix), and others (made it a point not to bother them during meals). Rhino Bucket was insanely heavy, melted my face off----not to say Y&T didn't as well! Meneketti was awesome, played some good ones during the set I saw: Rescue Me, Don't Stop Runnin', Lipstick n Leather, Hard Times, Squeeze, Midnight in Tokyo, Black Tiger.... Ran into Spike from Quireboys as soon as I boarded, got a pic....enjoyed their deep-track set very much too. Ran into John Corabi on Nassau, and his acoustic set was a nice interlude between the electric shows. All of the musicians seemed to be having a great time, and were agreeable to photos, conversation, and autographs. The only disappointments were La Guns (guitarist denied boarding due to paperwork) and Cinderella (Tom sick in hospital with pneumonia). Saw a little of Faster Pussycat and it was very good. Cruise food was terrible; service not much better, but drinks were obtainable and the incredible entertainment made up for the flaws of the cruise ship. We'd happily do it again, and we sure hope to. So nice to hear nothing but good rock music for four days and nights!! Difficult to return to the real world. that is for sure. Back to hearing soft rock and country music in stores...oh woe is me!!! LOL :headbang: PS: Now if they can just get Ugly Kid Joe, Electric Boys, D.A.D, Zodiac Mindwarp and Clutch on board for the next one.....
  9. The self-titled album with Corabi was killer. Wish that lineup had put out another one.
  10. Well, I am pleased to say that Joe started the set with "Don't Count Me Out"! It was awesome to hear that and the whole set was very rockin'. Here's what I recall: Don't Count Me Out Suck It Up Dressed Up Vamp Attack of Life Wrap My Wings Dancin' On Coals Someone Like You Untied and True Bring On The World (two good ones by Beautiful Creatures) I put the cd booklets for "Love After Death" and the newer one ("Pistol Whipped iN the Bible Belt") in my pockets--and a couple Sharpie pens after that, because on this cruise you just ran into artists everywhere you went! Well.... Ran into him and bassist on pool deck! Trying not to invade his conversation, I simply held up the L.O.D. booklet and he stopped talking, walked toward me as I said "Can I bother you to sign this?" "That is a really good album," he said. "I agree!" said me. Also got him and Lance Eric (bass) to sign the new one, and Joe told a funny story before we parted ways. Bang Tango was highlight of the trip for me and the wife. Enjoyed the whole cruise, but BT really rocks hard and was extremely cool. THANKS JOE!!! I'll try to get pics posted soon over on the M.O.R. thread. (concerts).
  11. Points taken! Music is a very personal thing, I get it.
  12. Anh, someone has to tell all these youngsters the truth. If you'd rather see Bon Jovi "tearing it up" singing rockabilly songs with sugarland-- than see STP crunching through "Sex Type Thing", well.... I'm sorry to hear that.
  13. TEN is a great album. It shows the band returning to gritty, bluesy, hard boogie songs. "City" alone is reason enough to buy it, but it is chock full of good tunes. "L.A. Rocks" is none of the above. It's terrible. It should never have been recorded. I love the title track to 'Contagious', and can stand one or two others on there --but three songs isn't enough to call it their 'best'. True, that is just my opinion. And I am out-numbered. Guess I am getting cranky in my old age! I will now go and crank Mean Streak.
  14. Amen, sir. Particularly the HAMMERJACK'S comment. If one looks closely at the Iron Maiden cover to "Somewhere In Time", they will see .."Hammerjack's". Dunno if it was meant for the same place, but I like to believe so. Also miss The Station --in Fern Park, FL (no relation at all to the Rhode Island tragedy) --saw Ugly Kid Joe, Warrant, Arcade, Circus of Power, Great White (few years before the R.I. tragedy) and Foghat there.
  15. I think Mr. Weilland is very talented. Perhaps is difficult to work with, like Axl Rose or Michael Schenker -- but he must have been "easier" than those two, since Velvet Revolver occurred and STP did re-form for a while. Just sayin'...rather see STP than Bon Jovi in concert, any day of the week!
  16. Well put. Agree almost completely, but I went with Quireboys since I have recently bought some of their back catalog and am really enjoying it. Q5 'Steel the Light' is a GEM. Quick Note----most of Q5 original lineup turned into Nightshade. They made music in 90's and also new millenium--You need to buy: Dead of Night, Men of Iron, and lastly Stand and Be True...get "Dead of Night" first.
  17. Good grief...'Contagious' is winning this poll? REALLY? Went with 'In Rock We Trust', but could easily have been "Mean Streak" or "Earthshaker". Definitely "Ten" before the weak, weak, weak "Contagious"!! Come on, people!!
  18. duh...just watched 'me against the world' on youtube - yep, that is the one. So I guess I need to give "Visual Lies" a try for starters!
  19. C'mon Joe, what you say? Only about a week to go, now.... My wife is totally digging L.A.D, (and some cuts off "Ready to Go" also) --- can you manage to belt out a few of the classics from these gems?
  20. tick tock....tick tock..... anyone else already having trouble getting up for work in the morning? Can't wait!!!!
  21. So far it has been tough for me to top Rogue's Dead Guy Ale!
  22. I'm going to admit I missed out on this band, save for a track on some old Hit Parader cassette and then recently hearing something like "Me against the World" ---but I swear it sounded GREAT --almost NEW--(like, last 10 years or so) production-wise...does he have another song about fighting the world? It was seriously rocking track, complete with obscenities as I recall... for a beginner, what album should I give a try?
  23. all right, all right...."Speedy's Coming"!! Catch your Train! Longing for Fire! Top of the Bill! Sails of Charon.. yer right I didn't quite think that one through. "Apologies", (as they'd say on 'Spartacus'.)
  24. "Whitesnake shouldn't be on that list IMO as their last two albums have been great." ---agreed. I don't even consider bon jovi to be rock n roll, so they don't count. 'Black Ice" was strong from AC/DC, so they are safe. Aerosmith is just terrible...but they haven't been that way for as long as Def Leppard, IMO. So the once-mighty, now-embarrassing Def Leppard gets my vote. Just listen to "Saturday Night High n Dry" and then immediately play "Have you Ever Needed Someone So Bad", back to back to understand .
  25. Choose between 'Stay Hungry', "Out of the Cellar", "In Rock We Trust", "Last in Line", "Love At First Sting" ??!! aiiiiieeeeee carumba!! Are you mad? And then "Balls to the Wall", "Defenders of the Faith"?? Not to mention Metallica, Black n Blue...ugh. I can't do it. Ok, I'll try: 1) Dio - Last in Line 2) Accept - Balls to the Wall ouuuuuch that really hurt!
