From the interwebz:

Signed by Perris Records, 99 CRIMES are ready to release their full length debut "99 Crimes" tomorrow. This powerhouse '80s inspired trio is led by current Dangerous Toys and former Dirty Looks guitarist Paul Lidel. Lidel handles both vocals and guitar duties, joined by bassist Jeff Lynn (also lead vocals) and drummer Chris Jordan (ex Miss Crazy), who make for a killer rhythm section.

Of note, Lidel was a part of one of the most underrated albums out there — Dirty Looks‘ 'Cool From The Wire' — which should have put the band on the same level back in 1988 as the bigger bands like Dokken, Ratt, etc.
Accordingly, with such a strong pedigree behind him, I was very interested in checking out Lidel‘s new band 99 Crimes. Even more interesting was that Lidel is fronting the band.

Straight ahead, no gimmick traditional hard rock is what you’ll get from 99 Crimes' music.
Just check “Comin’ Down Like Rain”, a perfect example of these guys delivery, catchy, bluesy American hard rock firmly planted in the second half of the '80s hard rock style: groovy, melodic and plenty of bounce.
Lidel's way of singing is raw yet in control, always in tune.

At first, I thought that Lidel handled all of the lead vocals, but there's a welcomed surprise. Bassist Jeff Lynn performs the leads on some songs, and he's a very melodic hard rock oriented vocalist.
Lynn sings on the melodic hard rocker “Avenue”. If someone had told me that Triumph's guitarist Rik Emmett was singing the track with his trademark high pitched voice, I would firmly have believed that it was indeed Emmett handling the lead vocals. A highlight.

"Devil In Your Dreams” is a great opening track. In your face straight from the get go, everything you want in a opening track. It checks all the boxes and things just keep rolling from there.
“Do It Over” and “9 Pound Hammer” are built on a guitar riff that comes back over and over again. If anything, I would describe 99 Crimes on these tracks as a mixture of classic rock and ’80s hair metal all rolled into one.
More midtempo is “Move like That”, driven by a dense riff. It has a head-banging toe tapping sing-a-long chorus which reminds me of Y&T, and smoking solo.

Hailing from Texas, 99 Crimes proves that '80s inspired traditional hard rock isn't dead in America.
As you might expect from Lidel, you are getting some old school / no frills rock n’ roll and his voice has a real retro ’70s feel to it, very well balanced by Lynn's more melodic approach. The guitar playing is all over, yet doesn’t overplay on the songs.
There isn’t one weak track on this album. In fact, all the songs are really good.
Highly Recommended

    • You know that feeling when you're sitting around listening to your 1987 playlist and a song you've heard plenty of times comes on the speakers and as it plays you think to yourself, holy fuck, seriously, how good is this song?! I think we can safely call it under-rated as the band only have the - wait, what the fuck? As I was just double checking that they only had the one EP, I notice this actually got re-released with 6/7 more tracks last year?  https://heavyharmonies.com/cgi-bin/glamcd.cgi?BandNum=9095&CDName=II Did I know about this? I know my memory is terrible, but I don't think so. I must find immediately.  But yeah, how good is this song?
    • New video for 'Into The Fire'. From Frontiers: Swedish rockers degreed have announced the upcoming release of their sixth studio album, “Are You Ready”.  ”I can’t believe we’re about to release our sixth studio album. I am so proud of this band and I am very humbled that we are still around. And what could fit more perfectly than to release this album with Frontiers? The leading company when it comes to melodic rock and hard rock! Our upcoming album will be just that...a more straightforward hard rock album with great melodies. Our ”old” fans will not be disappointed, and I’m sure that we will gain a lot of new ones as well with this one,” says vocalist Robin Eriksson. This new record indeed shows a more straightforward and focused direction for the band’s sound. Still extremely melodic and catchy, and not without some really outstanding instrumental parts, Degreed is back stronger than ever and with a great management and record label supporting them, they’ve never been more ready to take on the world. degreed have been releasing critically acclaimed music since the start of their career with their first album “Life, Love, Loss” in 2010. Over the course of their next four studio albums, the band has gone from strength to strength with every release, touring and gaining fans all over the world and they have no plans on stopping now. Degreed's sound mixes the classic melodic and hard rock sounds with more contemporary influences offering the fans a very personal, fresh and exciting mix of great rock music. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the band wasn’t able to tour on the heels of the release of their latest album, "Lost Generation" (2019), they set out to begin work on their sixth studio album, "Are You Ready". The band released the song “The World We Knew," their musical summation of the year 2020 (the song became ”Track of the Week” at Classic Rock Magazine’s website a week after its release) and then in 2021, work began in earnest on what would ultimately become "Are You Ready". Tracklisting: 1.    Into The Fire 2.    Higher 3.    Feed The Lie 4.    Radio 5.    Are You Ready 6.    Burning  7.    Falling Down 8.    Lost In Paradise 9.    Turn Back 10.    We Will Win 11.    Desire
    • Looks like I'm the only one who likes Tyler more than Coverdale. Not that I dislike Coverdale, I love the guy's voice, but if I had to choose just one to listen to, I'd go with Tyler, especially his 70's output. I kinda like the sleazy sound just a little bit more than the bluesy sounding voices.
    • It's like how I apologise to the mechanics every time my car breaks down.
    • I reckon it's worth asking the question.
    • I come in genuine curiosity, but this hospital argument... I'd like clarification. So originally we couldn't do anything because covid was going to kill everyone on earth. Then there was a vaccine and we couldn't do anything until we all got vaccinated. Now we're all vaccinated and the sole reason left that we're still living piece of shit lives is because we don't want to overload the hospitals? Is this the correct read on it? So, if this is true, we've resigned to the truth that is this is how the rest of our lives look? Masks, QR codes, crowd capacities, covid tests if we want to travel interstate, let alone international travel - then we need 87 tests and quarantine every time a new variant pops up, which will be fortnightly, or at the latest, monthly. This is it now, is it? Because if it's not, how does the end of it look? When will it be okay to live again without fear of clogging up the hospitals?  I can only speak for Australia on this part of it, but all we've ever heard about is stopping the strain on the hospitals, but has anyone ever seen it? Would anyone even consider overloaded hospitals as an issue if the media hadn't told us it was an issue? I ask as anyone I know who works in healthcare, and to an extent, even myself, as a medical courier who has worked every single day of the last two years... no one I know, or I, have ever seen any single even remote sign of all this strain on our health system. So, like the rest of this pandemic, is it just another media beat up? All they've done for two years straight is belt fear into us, so is it unreasonable to think this is just another branch from that tree? I'm just sick of daily excuses why our lives are still fucking horrible. Anytime the mere suggestion of return to a "normal" life gets brought up, there's a whole list of media-inspired reasons why we have to continue living in misery.  Anyway, I think that was about it. I'm just in eternal wonder about why we all had to get vaccinated when it hasn't actually changed anything about how covid is viewed and feared. Covid is viewed exactly as it was two years ago. It still governs every aspect of how we live, so all these promises about getting vaccinated so we could go back to a normal life were obviously all bullshit.  I was thinking about Australia's trajectory this morning. So if we keep up this pathetic excuse for an existence - the daily covid rate is around 1300 daily cases - let's call it 1500 daily cases if and when the other states open up. So if we continue on this trajectory, living in paralysed fear of the virus, acting like every case of covid is terminal cancer, we should get past this covid thing in about 15,333 days. So around 42 years. That, of course doesn't allow for population growth, but let's assume the cases go up with population growth proportionately.  So that's the outlook in Australia. In 42 years, we might finally move on from covid, based on our current trajectory? What a future to look forward to! Oh, actually, that doesn't include cases prior to today, so maybe we can get out of this thing in closer to 41 years? Life just got a whole lot brighter right then.
    • Really nice album cover indeed...but ten for me this last while...yawn...as Jez pointed out they all sound the same,i'd have difficulty picking which track came from which album tbh
    • Yeah it starts off very good then tails off round midway...but the defs have potential and judging by the new tunes could fulfil it...fingers crossed
    • And mine still hasn't been sent...quality service right there  too late to get a refund? lol
