JOHNNY%2BLIMA%2B-%2BUnplug%2B%2527N%2BPl

San Francisco Bay Area singer / songwriter JOHNNY LIMA is releasing a new album entitled “Unplug 'N Play”. Yes, it's an acoustically driven record but including drums, bass, lots of guitars and of course, Lima's trademark vocal harmonies.

If you thought Johnny was always a Bon Jovi clone (at least vocally) just wait to hear “Unplug 'N Play”... but you know? Who cares, because BJ is not producing this kind of '80s stuff anymore, and Lima does, and really, really well done.

The album kicks off with "So Excited". The combination of the beautiful intro and Johnny's recognizable voice captures your interest and attention right away and stays with you for the rest of this song (and album).

"Still Doing Nothing At All" starts with its mellow yet solid intro, then Lima’s voice feels warm through the whole track and especially during the chorus. The track is somehow synced with track 7 "I’m On My Way".

"I Do" is a love song that should be included in everyone's slow dance song collection. Jon Bon Jovi would be green of envy with this one as it's batter than anything he has written in the last twenty years.

"Hallelujah! (What’s It To Ya?)" is an uptempo rocker with a hooky chorus and most importantly meaningful lyrics. This song comes across as Johnny expressing himself about the simple view of don't point your holy book at me while judging me, when clearly your book states though shall not judge others.

"Feel What It’s Like To Be Loved" includes some great cellos & strings, building up beautifully in its melody and the lyrics just flow from verse to chorus and 4 minutes later as the song fades out, you realize this is one of the most solid tunes penned by Lima over his career. Really good.

"Superman" sounds like '80s Bon jovi, simple like this. The song is performed with full instruments (although all acoustic) and you can imagine the chorus sung by the crowd at big arenas.

"I’m On My Way" slows things down with the signature Johnny smooth verse-course-verse transition. As I said earlier it sounds like this starts where "Still Doing Nothing At All" ends.

"Nothing Worth Losing You" is a powerful song not only because of its lyrics but also Lima's emotional vocal performance, very slow but with substance, then "Let It Shine" picks up the tempo and delivers another catchy chorus. This is how Bon Jovi should sound like in 2015! Clean pure catchy and rocking softly.

The album sadly comes to an end with the even more uptempo "I Got The Girl", that at some point remembers me Mike Tramp's last acoustic works yet with the typical Lima's vocal timbre.

What I really liked about “Unplug 'N Play” is it's rocking spirit. Johnny Lima goes acoustic here, but this is not a bland album by any means. You have drums, bass, strings, percussion, even some keyboards all sounding absolutely organic.

Lima's still rocks in acoustic style, his vocals are in great form and his songwriting skills are intact (if you love the '80s style).

Highly Recommended.

Wow, that sampler did absolutely 0 for me. Sadly, could not be less interested in this one if I tried.

All the songs sound the same. Like the same song playing over and over with different words.

I agree with Geoff.

Yep, played the full 9min sample and I also could barely tell a song apart. It's a bad idea, no doubt about it.

Overall, I think it's a very interesting album, the performance could be something better-more vibrant in some verses with less saturated vocal melodies; 2 great tracks, 3-4 interesting ones, 3-4 mediocre and one Xmasy/religious crap. Btw, some of the tracks are screaming for some electricity.

For those moments with good old buddy Jack.

    • Well it definitely motivated Spongebob
    • I love motivational hair metal songs, so I figured I'll create a thread for people share them. Here are a few of my favorites: "Don't Surrender" by Mercury   "Overnight Sensation" by Firehouse   "Sweet Victory" by David Glen Eisley and Bob Kulick
    • New album out January 24. From Pride & Joy Music: UK guitarist and songwriter Neil Fraser previously has worked/recorded with the likes of TEN, Rage of Angels/Ged Rylands (Tyketto), Tony Mills (TNT, SHY). Trishula started out as Neil’s solo project back in 2015.    Fraser had previously worked with Welsh vocalist Jason Morgan in the band Rage of Angels, so Jason was Neil’s first choice for lead vocal duties when it came to assembling the band members for Trishula. It took another 4 years of song writing from 2015 before the debut album ‘Scared to breathe’ was released in 2019. Whilst recording the debut, the UK based group were joined by Neil’s long-time friend and MAGNUM keyboard player Rick Benton and bass player Dan Clark from the Rebecca Downes Band. One year after the release of the debut, Trishula released their second album ‘Time waits for no man’ in 2020. It was at this point that Neil Ogden (DEMON) became their new drummer. A third album, ‘We all fall down’, was released in 2022.   The brand new fourth CD is titled ‘Becoming the enemy’ and the first one to be released on the band’s new label Pride & Joy Music.
    • My introduction to the band...way back when
    • Well that took far too long to kick in for me,its ok and he has an amazing voice...just wish he'd get a great song given to him again
    • This one popped up in my rotation today as it does frequently because I fucking love this track.  It contains killer lines like, "From the pale lips of the youth who lay", "After dark is the game I play" and "I hit the sack when the Sun's coming back". I've also added a video of an acoustic performance I came across years ago by some young "buskers", which is AWESOME! I wonder how many of you know this classic from the lines above before clicking on the "hidden content"? I would guess most.
    • Robban Back was their studio drummer
    • 'Still Believe' was my pick from this album. All in all I'd agree it's probably their best in a while. Not great, but not bad.
