My Stuff on HubPages.com

Recommended Posts

Hey Gang: dunno if any of you are familiar with the blogging site "HubPages," but I've recently started a profile on it. I've posted a couple of my CD reviews and over time I'm planning to add much more music, movie and comic-related geeky nonsense. If you wanna check it out, my profile can be found here:

http://hubpages.com/profile/FatFreddysCat

(Before anybody asks, "FatFreddysCat" is an old alias I used online many moons ago. I eventually lopped off the "Cat" and went with plain ol' "Fat Freddy," but I felt it was time to bring it back.

In addition to my stuff there are literally tons of other weird blogs/articles on this site about just about any topic you can possibly think of, so it makes for some interesting (and occasionally hilarious) reading.

Supposedly there's some kinda nonsense involving Google AdSense tied into this site where you can supposedly make a few bucks off of your writings (similar to Examiner.com, I guess), but I haven't explored that side of it yet, I just thought it looked like a neat place to post some of my deranged ramblings. Hope you dig it.

Good review of the Accept disc and yes still a great great album even a year later. Not only is it there best album in many years but also one of their best albums ever IMO. My only disagreement would be the Eat the Heat album which I still love, but i'm a Reece fanatic. Sure it's not the heavy classic Accept but there's some great songs on there IMO. Can't wait for the follow up to Blood of the Nations. :headbanger:

In my latest HubPages entry (inspired by a joke post I made in the "Let's Go Back to 1991" thread), I went for an "Onion" style expose of how the Grunge revolution REALLY happened.

Note to the humor impaired: this entry is a PARODY. No offense was intended.

Dude, that line made me laugh out loud. Well done.

When Lips and Robb were on that metal show they were talking about having horns and jazz mixed with metal and they said they invented a new genre(of course I'm assuming they've never heard of early Megadeth) and Sebastian Bach called it "Horny Metal" instead of Horn Metal.

Yeah, I saw that interview...funny stuff. I kinda cringed and rolled my eyes when Reiner sez "If Metal on Metal was the future of metal in 1982, Juggernaut of Justice is the future of metal in 2011." I was like "Oh pleeeeeeeeeze." It's good, but it's not THAT good for cryin' out loud. :D

As for them thinking that they've invented a new genre by adding horns to metal, I guess that must mean that even though they're good buddies with Raven and have played many shows with them over the years, they've never heard Raven's "The Bottom Line," "Hyperactive" or "Don't Let It Die," all of which have horn sections in them.

My latest HubPages entry looks at the best 'n' worst of the Mega Piranhas, Giant Octopuses, and earth shattering disasters brought to us by the notorious Z-Movie studio, The Asylum...

Well, let me tell you guys that if you're thinking of joining up w/HubPages, don't do it thinking it's a get rich quick scheme. I've been there for six weeks now and according to the "earnings" thingy on my profile, I've made a grand total of one cent (!) via Google AdSense. So I guess I shouldn't quit my job to write for this site full time ... haha.

I honestly was surprised to see that I've earned anything at all (but at least it shows that I have the affiliate stuff working correctly, anyway)... I mean, it's a nice idea in theory that somebody will be so moved by my articles on the new Anvil CD or the "Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus" movie that they'll click the Amazon links at the bottom of the page and order a copy immediately so I'd get a cut... but I think we all know how likely that is to happen.

I'm gonna keep posting stuff there simply cuz it's fun, but wow, when I read postings from people there complaining about how they're not making any money, I'm thinking that maybe they've got their sights set a wee bit too high, or they're writing stuff for the site for the wrong reason.

Hey, this is kinda cool. I was just notified that one of my HubPages articles is under consideration for a "HubNugget" award. Articles that get picked as "HubNuggets" are included in HubPages' monthly newsletter, which gets sent out to 130,000 people (!) There's no $$ or prizes involved, but I love the idea that something I wrote would be read by that many folks. But I need your votes to make it happen!!

If y'all would be so kind as to go to the link below and vote for the article "Enter the Asylum: A Descent Into B-Movie Hell!" you would have my eternal gratitude. And hey, read some of my other stuff while you're at it. It's fun stuff (if I do say so myself)

Vote now, vote often, tell your friends, your family, your pets, everyone you know to vote!! Thanks in advance!!

    • Love it!  Very new-breed DRN... I don't normally dig that type of thing from my favorite 80's bands, but I'm good with it here.  Once again, Daiker is all over this one. Look at Mel slide into everyone of those notes on bass.  Dude is SOOOOOOOOOOOO damn good.  Such a shame he's virtually unknown outside Portland, Oregon (and a those of you in-the-know for this type of music).
    • The guitar-work is great.  I think it's a pretty decent cover. Look, I've been a HUGE fan since 1983, so you'll be hard-pressed to get me to say anything negative about this band.  Those of you who weren't around to see them on the Pyromania and Hysteria tours... God I feel badly for you.  "Top of their game" is a HUGE understatement.  The Beatles of my era for sure.
    • Only point I was looking to make was that I agreed with the prior post above which had mentioned being frustrated that the guys hadn't put out many new releases over the last 15 years and that it may be beneficial to work with a better producer again.  Your follow up post pointed to the time between their earlier releases being similar and I responded to explain how I felt that was different, no worries though, we just see things differently
    • Inglorious indicated a few months ago that they had finished recording the songs for their third album, hinted as being heavier than their prior releases, which should be released via Frontiers in February 2019.  The first song/video from the upcoming album is out now https://www.planetrock.com/news/rock-news/inglorious-say-heavier-third-album-is-done-and-reveal-release-date/
    • From 84 (the year after Pyromania) until 99 they released 4 studio albums, yes, but from 2000 until 2015 they released 3 studio albums, not 2. Not really that much difference. They also released the covers album, so that was pretty much the same level of output. They still continue to tour regularly and had issues such as Campbells cancer scare and recovery from that, plus the musical landscape is vastly different to that first time scale you mention.   Really not sure what your point is here?
    • Uh...it doesn't sound bad.  Not as raw as the original and I think that hurts this version. But...if you're gonna do a cover, get the lyrics right.  "It's the eye of the tiger, it's the dream of the fight?"  Uh... no.
    • Damn good album...Has moved up my list also. I think as of now my top 4 are probably: Kissin' Dynamite Shiraz Lane Treat Maverick I'm not even bothering listing #5 as I'm saving a spot in the top 5 for Midnite City....Almost expecting that it'll slot in at either #1 or #2. And probably a good chance Nordic Union pushes the list also. Another release I'm really digging is Hearts On Fire.  Not officially out yet but have been listening to it for a month or so from doing a premium pre order.  Not quite making my top 5 but probably in the 6-8 range at the moment.
    • Been listening to this band a lot lately....Went back to the debut as I never spent much time with that album and sort of rediscovering it....damn good. And still like the new one a lot also....Not quite as melodic as the first couple albums but still lots of interesting hooks. Really the only album that does little for me is Into the Wild Life.  There's a few good tunes...I dig I Am The Fire....But really not much that keeps my interest on that one.
