Coal Mines

The Southern part of Illinois, where I've lived most of my life, is very much driven by the Coal Mines. There used to be 10 times as many mines as there are now but still to this day that is a major employer. My brother worked in the mines for 15 + years but after hurting his back and having to have a severe surgery he'll probably never work again. I appreciate the mines to a point but I also hate them as well. Here in Wyoming there are mines but there all surface mining and no underground like you get in the midwest and the east.

Don't really know much about the coal mining industry... But since I've built my cabin in Berkeley Springs, WV. it seems as though alot of the states finance is influenced by the coal industry. Our senator Byrd just died this week and was always in the news here because of his support for the local coal industry. I'm sure I am even more influenced by this than I know. And of course West Virginia has been in the news as of late for a couple of major coal mining accidents.
