Captain Howdy
Was just playing the new Joan Jett compilation, and the song Fake friends came on. Now I have Joans entire back catalogue, but as I bought a lot of it at the same time, theres a lot of earlier songs I am not so familiar with, so this is the first time that I have really noticed this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDQg5NNkD7E So I'm sitting there listening to the song, and I think "Hold on, is this a new song? A cover of a song I know?" It then dawned on me that its a Nashville Pussy song that I am thinking of called Drive. http://www.last.fm/music/Nashville+Pussy/_/Drive The intro is identical, with the riff and drum pattern repeating through both songs. I checked the liner notes for the NP album to see if they credit the original writers, but they dont. Its not just a bit similar, its identical. Fat Freddy
There's definitely a similarity there, dunno if it was an intentional nod or just coincidence but you're right, the riff of the NP song totally bites off of "Fake Friends." Joan's song is superior of course. On a semi-related note, what's this "new Joan Jett compilation" you speak of? I desperately need to get me some JJ action on CD. All the Joan Jett stuff I have is on beat up, second hand cassettes.
Dark Star
I have a compilation called "Fit to be Tied" That's pretty decent, but I think it's out of print now.. I looked on Amazon and found this though... http://www.amazon.com/Greatest-Hits-Joan-Jett-Blackhearts/dp/B0036SPU3K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1270797712&sr=1-1 21 tracks for ten bucks?? What a deal!!!
Captain Howdy
Yeah, thats the new one thats just been released to coincide with the new Runaways film. Its a mix of old Joan hits and re-recorded Runaways tunes.
Doghouse Reilly
It's no more similar than how the chorus riff in "Heart and Soul" by Huey Lewis and the News copies "You Give Me All I Need" by the Scorps. Given the choice between Joan and Nashville Pussy, I'd take the Pussy. I bet she would too. HAR!

I just got this mental image in my head of Jett & former bass of The Pussy Cory Parks

They follow the same 2 notes, but that's it. They sound nothing alike
