Anybody heard of this new Australian band? Me neither. But I just got a promo of this Australian brother/sister rock act's five-song "BLOOD, SWEAT AND BEERS" EP to review for Detritus... giving it a first spin and it sounds pretty rockin' to me... no-frills, hard-ass pub rock with a big ole AC/DC influence... kinda like Airbourne if they had a chick singer. Check'em out and feel free to comment....

Yeah... actually not bad at all. Straight ahead rock n roll... I was a little worried when you compared them to AC/DC and Airborne.

Their MySpace lists their "influences" as "Motorhead, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy" amongst others... so I figure the AC/DC comparison is/was valid...

 

They also quote a reviewer who sez "Imagine AC/DC with the vocals of Tina Turner while being penetrated from behind," which is quite possibly the coolest comparison I've ever read

It's funny cus living here in Australia I have heard absolutely nothing about this band, not a single word. Sounds good though.

O.K. Keef!!

 

I got to the club about 9:00. I looked up the other bands playing and I didn't care for them. I fiqured I'll go late and miss 'em. I got to the club and it was pretty empty. About 25 people to be exact (Including Bar maids, band members, bar tender, and the woman who makes my kick ass fries). I thought to myself "was the show cancelled?". I noticed the merch table for Bug girl right away and walked over to it.. I quickly shelled out some cabbage for two c.d.'s and a t-shirt. I started talkin' to the drummer Clinno. He then introduced me to the lovely Amber and their tour manager Craig. We hit it off great and asked if I wanted to bowl with them. While we started to bowl, the band ABSTRACT ARTIMUS got up to play. Kind of a cross between Nirvana with Misfits style of vocals. After my shitty bowling game (I SUCK!!), The band DAIKAIJU Started to play. DAIKAIJU is the same band as ABSTRACT ARTIMUS, but everyone (Accept the drummer) switches instuments. DAIKAIJU'S music was Heavy Rock with heavy Surf Rock overtones. The band members all came out with Kabuki masks as well. I actually thought they were quite entertaining..

Time for Bug Girl to hit the stage. AC/DCish style riffing, they ripped into ROCK 'N' ROLL HELL, DEATH ON WHEELS, V8 MOTOR, MOTOR CITY LOVER, DIRT IN THE SKIRT and a few others. Last song they played was dedicated to me and was called WAR & FIRE.

I stuck around to help the band load out and gave my goodbyes. They actually wanted me to play another game of bowling, but I had to go home. Like usual, I regret not taking my camera. I will see them again when they come around in june or july. I don't think they'll be playin' the ASBURY LANES ever again..

Glad to hear it was a good show. So is Amber hot? It's kinda hard to tell from the pix I've seen thus far. She looks kinda skanky, but in a good way, if you know what I mean. Like she could drink you under the table and then show you a hell of a good time when you woke up.

Amber is short and stocky, but I think she's cute.. She was also drinking from a pitcher at the end of the night..
