Be Very Careful On E Bay

Had an experience this evening that I couldn't let go by without alerting as many people as possible..........

 

I had just performed a search on E Bay for AOR Indie CDs under the music catagory. The search returned 232 listings fitting my search request. As I was scrolling down, I came across a cover that I had never seen before (to be honest, it was a naked chick on the cover) and it looked killer. I clicked on the listing and a screen popped up requesting I log into E Bay..........whoa!!!!!

 

I was logged in and the page had some different looking fonts that appeared just a tad larger than what I am accustomed to seeing. I looked at the URL of the page I was on and instead of Ebay, I was on a web site in 'RUSSIA'........That's right boys and girls.......a phishing scheme right on E Bay and if you all aren't careful, you may do what I almost did and give up your e Bay ID and password to some maggot!!! The moral to this storey.........don't assume anything on the web...........S-L-O-W ..... D-O-W-N and look things over before entering your critical data on any web page........I almost got sucked in.

I also noticed a while back there were some listings w/ lude pictures as well. I had just started to do a search in the CD category and at the top of the page were about half a dozen one worded listings with semi-pornographic type pictures. Maybe the seller was unaware of them 'cause they had good feedback, but nevertheless the photos were quite graphic, at least one was. Ebay eventually got around to removing all of the "questionable" listings/auctions later the next morning. When clicking on the link or the photo it would redirect to the sign in page, which was a good red flag warning not to proceed any further, at least for myself, other's may've "check out" the goodies, but I passed on 'em, especially if you're being redirected to the sign in page, another website & in another country, too.

I've seen this alot. They pic catagories that get HUGE amounts of traffic as well. DVD, CD's, Guitars, Jewelry, etc...

Yep....I recall reading that thread Dan had posted......it's always good to keep reminders out there lest we get clumsy!!!!
