  1. It wasn't SHSB, was it? No Westcliff........ I was at SHSB ... I always envied you guys for having the boys' school next to the girls' school Never had time to talk to them tho - was always working. My time at school was hard....very hard. Join the club! Just about managed to scrape through my 'A' levels while I was at SHSB (showing my age now) ... my youngest son goes there now, and it's a far better school now than ever it was (even a couple of the teachers who were there back in my day have said that to me) ...
  2. The debate is fun and what the forum is all about, but we're never going to convert each other, are we? It's all about the songs and I've only heard one song by HS that I liked. A bit. I don't mind their sound, but I don't rate their songs, whereas you do. Fair enough. Could be an idea for a new thread though ... has HH ever converted you to like a band you previously weren't a fan of? Hmm... Yes - Ratt ... well, HH and your constant banging on about how good they are ... that said, I only listen to the earlier stuff
  3. Only 2 keepers for me in that list Gibb-Bob, either a bad year or we disagree even more than usual! I'm going with it being a bad year ... the alternative is that you're even more wrong than you normally are bad year my arse....... No year is bad when you have awesome releases from Giant, Unruly Child, Hardline, Roxus and Warrant to name just 5 bona fide classics of our genre. I had 'Time To Burn', and hardly ever played it ... the same with the Hardline album ... you cant claim to be a fan of melodic hard rock then.....sorry mate but those albums are pretty generally considered to be classics. And for good reason. I bought 'Last Of The Runaways', based on a review ... and only a couple of songs really stood out for me - that's my excuse for not playing 'Time To Burn' very much ... Hardline never appealed simply because I'm not a huge fan of Journey (I realise, of course, that such a statement is likely to get me tarred, feathered and dragged through the streets but, hey, that's how it was/is) ... I'll give Hardline another go - simply because EVERYONE raves about it
  4. Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble: Couldn't Stand The Weather
  5. Why, yes - I think I WILL be picking this one up

  7. RATT is awesome, sorry dude! Absolutely. "Out Of The Cellar" and "Invasion Of Your Privacy" are amazing and "Dancing Undercover" and "Detonator" are almost as good. Also, "1987" is a fantastic album. It was then, it is now and it will be in the future. The 1987 version of "Crying In The Rain" is one of my favourite songs ever, with a jaw-droppingly wonderful guitar solo. "Still Of The Night" and "Children Of The Night" are also bloody marvellous. Oh, and just to complete the verdict of the rural Kent jury, I don't like Hardcore Superstar. At all. Just find their tunes really average. I will never understand the hard-on you have for '1987'. Never. Not in a million years. You're right about Hardcore Superstar, though. I do about 1987. And he's wrong about HS - and so are you I'm not getting dragged into ANOTHER debate about Whitesnake I saw HS at Chinnery's many years ago ... they were underwhelming, to say the least ...

  10. One man's meat, an' all that ... For the sake of my sanity, I went back through the HH archives to see if I'd missed anything - Kiss Of the Gypsy ('S/T') and The Outfield ('Rockeye') are obvious omissions (I blame the fact that I had to sell the CDs in question years ago) ... the other album that jumped out at me was Jerusalem Slim's one and only album (then I remembered that I only ever liked 'The Scum Lives On' from that one) ... As for Warrant - sorry, Geoff, but I never really liked 'Dog Eat Dog' ...
  11. Therion: Sita Ahra Zyklon: World Ov Worms God Seed: I Begin Del Amitri: Change Everything Fields Of The Nephilim: The Nephilim Toyah: Love Is The Law
  12. Here's one for the oldies ... Spider! Back in the early 80s, I LOVED their 'Rough Justice' album ... I picked up the CD re-issue recently, hoping for a wave of nostalgia ... and it proved to be VERY disappointing! Only two 'good' songs on the whole album ... somewhere, my 13 year-old self is sobbing gently ...

  14. Regardless of the quality of the songs, I couldn't listen to his voice again ...
  15. b.l.o.w. - Man And Goat Alike This was the band put together by three members of Little Angels when that band folded - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B.l.o.w. ... back in the day, I saw these guys play an 'instore' in the local HMV before seeing them again at a club that same night ... I even had a signed copy of this album ... *sob*
  16. I still think people confuse "rare" for "expensive." The rarest albums I have are two from a Punk Rock band called Seed (S/T in '99, and Rockstar in '01). There were probably only a few hundred pressed of each, but I probably couldn't even give them away. Nobody knows who this band is. Good point. I suspect a lot of us own demos and/or 'self-released' material that had a limited run, and so would be considered 'rare' ... perhaps the question should be what's the most expensive/highest value album in your collection?
  17. There are LOADS of Lostprophets CDs in the second-hand/charity shops around here .. it looks like everyone cleared out their collections when the lead singer was sent down ...
  18. Harem Scarem seem way out of place amongst those other albums The boy Eagle is all over the place, musically ...

  20. People like you suck!! Just a small handful to get you started... Boystown - Angels With Dirty Faces Bang Gang - Love Sells Holy Soldier - Holy Soldier Hericane Alice - Tear The House Down Dominoe - The Key Heartless - Heartless Lipstik - First Kiss EP Lipstik - First Kiss EP Hotshot - Hotshot Guardian - Fire And Love Blonz - Blonz Cheap Trick - Busted Hit The Ground Runnin' - Control Yourself Halo - Halo D'Priest - Playa Del Rock Crash Alley - Crash Alley Fastway - Bad Bad Girls D'Molls - Warped Boysvoice - Boysvoice Brass Kitten - E-Z N' Pretty Lita Ford - Stiletto In fairness to Gibbo. I'm pretty unfamiliar with this lot too. I'll check them out, but I'd be amazed if many eventually stand a chance at actually breaking my own personal top 20 for 1990 as I pretty much extensively listened to most stuff from that year (discarding and not buying what I thought was weak) as it was released....... We'll see. From Geoff's list (ignoring the very small number of albums we agree on): Don Dokken - Up From The Ashes - this one didn't do anything for me when it was released, I doubt it will do anything for me now Heart - Brigade - I was put off Heart after 'Bad Animals' came out, and this album has got 'All I Wanna Do ...' on it, which I can't stand Alias - Alias - I've got this album. It's okay, but I don't play it often enough for it to be an absolute favourite Heavens Edge - Heavens Edge - fair point, I ought to revisit this one Firehouse - Firehouse - as with Heaven's Edge, I may have been a bit hasty when it comes to Firehouse Jon Bon Jovi - Blaze Of Glory - I like the title track. That's it Cheap Trick - Busted - never much liked latter-day Cheap Trick Fastway - Bad Bad Girls - never bothered with Fastway, too many other bands to listen to D'Molls - Warped - another good shout. I don't have this album any more, and had forgotten all about it (sorry!) Company Of Wolves - Company Of Wolves - I've always heard that this is a good album. Perhaps I should give it a listen?

We'll see. Those top 6 are utterly essential. Nope - haven't heard one of those ... I may have to look them up (if only to keep Geoff quiet!)
  22. This was when you were going through your 'ballads' phase, wasn't it?
