The Martian
SPOILER ALERT-entertaining but to me the film never created any feeling of dread. As a viewer I never believed that he may in fact die or be in any threat at all.
I felt the same. I prefer my Sci-Fi with more Fiction, and less Science, so some kind of creature would have been nice.
I gave up on the book after 70 pages of growing potatoes
Zzzzzz
Didn't even know it was a book. This is why I don't read.
Just because the book 'The Martian' is a turkey is no excuse not to read.
I would say out of all the films I have ever seen in 99% of cases the book(s) is / are better.
I wish I had more time to read. Mostly only ever have time on a plane or when I'm stuck in some boring industrial area overseas with nothing much else to do at night.
Have a pile of books waiting to get through.
I maybe do 2 or 3 a year...

Top Gun. Held up surprisingly well.
Probably the sunsettingest movie I've ever seen.
My wife selected the movie for "family movie night" and they all thought it was pretty good which is a big wrap from a bunch of kids aged 14 to 19 I guess.
Interesting Tom Cruise has aged pretty well, Val Kilmer, not so much.... -
Not sure if this link will work, but this Riffstation looks pretty cool.
Takes songs from youtube and analyses them and then giver you the chords while the song plays.
-
I like that song too.
It's a pretty generic song, but it makes me wonder why other bands are so mediocre these days.A song like "Down" can be heavied up, thrashed out or altered in many otehr ways for a completely different, but still good song.
I guess real talent plays a part in being able to write the basis of songs like this. -
I really like electric razors...only problem is that when the blades get dull, the replacement blades cost more than the original fucking electric razor.....so I do not use them....so my wish for the new year is that everyone making profits from razor sales drop dead...
I use a 10" hunting knife
-
Batteries. Sure you wait and stockpile when they're half price but fuck me does the cost pile up when you add 3 kids into the mix!
Fuck parking and razors! Oh, and not sure if I was seeing things at the supermarket or not but isn't there now battery powered disposable razors? Double the $ pain!
Dick Smith last week.
Pack of 40 Alkaline AA's $8
Pack of 30 AAA's $6
Dick Smith brand which are usually pretty good.
I bought 50 bucks worth

In the vein of Lemmy (life is too short) they should open for GNR and make some dollars.
But then again, I really don't give too much of a shit...
-
Being near the start of the midnights, I guess i can start the HNY thread.
Hope everyone has a better 2016 no matter how good 2015 was.
I had a great year and look forward to another great one.
I raise a glass and propose a toast

For me, Steel Panther should have done a more serious album for their third.
Then maybe for 4 they could have had some more fun.
They have a few more serious songs mixed in with the comedy, but I got a bit tired of it.
I think the music got a bit stale trying to fit the funny/sleazy mold and it was all kinda the same. -
From what I've read this was the end of a longer time of the disease.
Dare say it progressed to the point where he was pretty ill a few days ago.Never a fan of his music, but he was a legend to many.
Dee Snider has a great story about what Lemmy did for TS, as I';m sure many bands do.
He said he didn't think he'd make 30 at one point I think, so I guess 70 was quite an achievement in a way...

Can't find chords for Call Paul Stanley - Bad City
Wondering if any of the guitar gurus here can help out.
I'm no expert but seem to be getting G E C D out of it at least....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAhL34f42qU
Come on!
I started out alone,
down avenues and open roads.
the same girls, the same streets,
her dirty stage and empty seats.
I said hey fortune teller take it from me,
you really can't count on anything
except the sound and the dream
the shape of things you never see.
I said he looks like a boy,
but when he sings oh man
cheap sunglasses and a rock and roll tan
mo mo money and mo mo fans
rock and roll angel to answer his prayers.
He's got the crowd on his side and the blue jean lights in his eyes
gonna call Paul Stanley on the telephone in the middle of the night (middle of night)
and if he doesn't die young then he'll fake it,
he spills his blood on the stage but it's never enough,
holds his hands to the sky and he smiles cause he won't make it.
he headed west alone,
late every night, so far from home
then we crashed, and we burned
we live on the edge, we'll never learn.
I said he looks like a boy
but when he sings oh man
cheap sunglasses and a rock and roll tan
mo mo money and mo mo fans
rock and roll angel to answer his prayers
He's got the crowd on his side and the blue jean lights in his eyes
gonna call Paul Stanley on the telephone in the middle of the night (middle of night)
and if he doesn't die young then he'll fake it
he spills his blood on the stage but it's never enough
holds his hands to the sky and he smiles cause he won't make it
I realize what keeps me awake
my every wild dream come true
I think I found my rock and roll angel in you (in you)
Yeah
He has the crowd on his side and the blue jean light in his eyes
gonna call Paul Stanley on the telephone in the middle of the night (middle of night)
and if he doesn't die young then he'll fake it
he spills his blood on the stage but it's never enough
holds his hands to the sky and he smiles cause he won't make itOh yea
cause he won't make it

Joe Dirt 2
Didn't have high hopes for this, and was right not to.
First one was funny, and the second didn't come close to matching it.
Average.

Yeah Antman and Captain America Winter Soldier were two of the biggest surprises for me in that I expected pretty much shit and got the opposite... which I guess is food

Vinyl scratches. Then you have to re-buy the album.
Always hated that.
CD's for me
Don't care about sound differences - that's mainly for people who grew up with LP's who became used to the sound.
I'm sure those who grew up with CD's listen to vinyl and think it sounds like shit.

Les Miserables
I always joked with my wife that this would be a great movie about miserable lesbians. It isn't
But it was surprisingly better than I thought it would be considering they sing through it, and that one of the singers is Russell Crowe. -
Peanuts - started watching this with the kids. 10 minutes in it was just like an old episode and boring so I left.
The Intern - not a bad movie. DeNiro is excellent. Worth a watch, but it's in the vein of The Devil Wears Prada in many ways.

May not even drink...
Sinner.
Hope you all had, are having or will have a good one. Merry Christmas, nudists!
Kinda still recovering from the 8th annual 12 pubs of Christmas last weekend
Didn't end up drinking.
Was only my dad, my wife and our 6 kids.
Spent time after lunch assembling bikes...
-
Happy birth of Jesus day!
Won't be long before we are celebrating the next birthday of Jesus at Easter.
All about the kids for me. Rare times these days when my whole family is around for a meal together, with all the kids working etc.
Will be a great day. May not even drink...

Heist
With DeNiro. Good enough watch, with some small twists to keep it interesting.
-
He Never Died
Henry Rollins so it's always gonna be an ok movie. It was ok.
-
The Ridiculous 6
Best past of this movies was picking the actors as they came up.
Average other than that, which is a shame because it was the lack of real comedy which let it down and it could have been much better.
2 hours was too long for what was needed.
But in the end it was a fair movie, which wasn't too hqard to watch.

American Hero
ugggghhh. don't bother.
It's like they made this movie with the specific purpose to only ever be an indie movie.
ie: it will never be more than some weird cult movie for a very small group of people.
126 minutes I'll never get back.
Sadly, it had potential all the way through, but just fizzed out.
-
Star Wars.
About as I expected it to be.Good/really good.
Won't comment more for a month or so because of spoilers.
-
Only track I liked of the last album was Six Feet Under, which was very cool.
MEgalomania was a much better overall CD for me.
Last movie you watched?
in Exquisite Entropy
Posted
The Revenant - Not quite the epic I was hoping for, but worth a watch.
The Martian - like someone else said - not once did I develop a sense of fear for him, but aside from that a good movie.
The Hateful Eight - Expected more. Again, enjoyable enough, but was hoping for an epic.
The Intern - I enjoyed this one a lot. DeNiro is really good, and I actually like most Anne Hathaway movies.
