  1.

GNR toured once years ago in a mudpit outdoor concert.

Didn't go, and soon after saw the Use Your Illusion Live DVD's and all I remember was that they were very average on video, so god knows what they were like at a standard non recorded show.

For that reason, I doubt I';; catch this new tour next year.

Was that the Calder Park gig? cause I was there. I really enjoy the two Aussie's bands who supported them, they were Horsehead and Rose Tattoo.

    Yeah.

Not sure why I didn't go, was a long time ago.

    Don't really regret it.

I missed Motley on the Dr. Feelgood tour for some reason. That one I really regret :(

  2. Metallica has always sucked. Are they trying to get back to the days where they happened to suck less?

    Never really did Metallica.

My wife liked them way more than I did and she's generally into hipster or mainstream music. I guess she had a metal phase and ended up there/

But to me it was always pretty shit.

I like the ballads and the radio songs, but that's about it.

This new song is exactly why I don't like them.

There are people here who's taste varies between heavy synth lollypop AOR and screamo death metal.

I guess my taste aren't quite so varied in the genre.....

  3. I was in London when Robbie Williams released Escapology.

The first single was pounded in to my head from the flight over through the whole trip.
In the end I grew to love the song, Feel, and bought the CD on its merits.

When I got home I listened over and over and loved it, then started exploring some of his older stuff which I'd largely ignored aside from Let Me Entertain You (where he wears Gene makeup) and Angels.

Soon after that he toured, and I though "what the hell and ventured out to see him"

Amazing show. From half naked girls, to theatrics and Dee Snider like energy.

I still refer to it as the 3rd best concert I've seen.

Another one would be Def Leppard who I saw last year. Had never seen them before and kind of expected them to be a bit old and over it.

Aside from Phil all oiled up and strutting around, the show was really great.

You could tell they'd been touring a while and knew what they were doing.

Played most of the songs they needed to and had a lot of energy.

  4. As mentioned in another thread, Tesla didn't light a fire under me.

Once I saw The Angels at a pub, a few years before Doc passed. They were boring as hell, didn't talk to the audience, and just went through the motions.

Motley on the tour where they had the industrial set up with saws and shit. Found out how bad Vince now was at singing.

Meat Loaf maybe 12 years ago. Hadn't seen him before and he changed all his songs so the crowd felt like idiots singing along way out of place with him - that kinda sucked

  5. To give you an idea Glen, here's my compilation...

There are only a few bands with this many songs that I really like - Kiss & Iron Maiden would be obvious ones

Motley, GNR, Def Lep etc all come in around the mid 30's

I thought Rising was average but Elation was great.

Really looking forward to new music from Great White, no matter who the singer is. Also look forward to JR music, but not as much.

Great White turned out to be one of my favorite bands.

I realised this when I had to choose which songs to lump together for my own mix and found that there weren't many that I could omit from Hooked onwards

Interesting, for me it would be the S/T and Shot In The Dark and some of Once Bitten. I find it interesting that every release or at least it seems has a cover song on it.

Yeah, that just tweaked for me. Curethesane, are you saying you enjoy their music more from 'Hooked' onwards, than the albums before 'Hooked?' If so, that'd be wild. IMO, their best albums by a massive distance are s/t, 'Once Bitten' and 'Twice Shy.'

Yep, Hooked really hooked me :)

Before that it was Rock Me, All Over Now and Once Bitten Twice Shy.

Over time I managed to get in to some of the other songs on those albums. There's nothing wrong with them, for me it was just timing and what I was doing at the time.

Sometimes you put on a disc and are not instantly in to it, so you shelve it and never get back to it for a long time.

I did try to get in to Shot In The Dark, but never could.

I do love their later stuff more though, and that's just a personal thing

    Love Is A Lie

    Psycho City

    All Right

    Cryin'

    Lil' Mama

    Sister Mary

    I'm Alive

    Miles Away

Another great cover is Love Removal Machine

  7. Jason Bourne - this was disappointing. Far from all the others in script and acting. Just a money spin that seems to have worked.

Couple of big car chase scenes - ok, the second one had is very cool moments, but both went far too long. A few fight scenes when guns had been knocked from hands.

Most of the time I sat there picking holes in the plot, which just didn't gel well.

And why not, they do great covers.

I actually heard Once Bitten Twice Shy on the radio yesterday. The Ian Hunter one. And it pretty much sucked compared to GW's cover. Easy when it's an older weaker song I guess.

They had a great relationship with The Angels in covering songs.

  9.

Well that's very mellow and safe. Odd choice. Defo not for me.

Interestingly enough the rest of the disc is far more uptempo.

I remember when More Than Words was released.

Went out and bought the album on the strength of the song and was in the 10% of people who did who were happy they did.

I, like most of Australia, had never heard of Extreme before so it was a bit of a risk that didn't pay off for the 40+ ages females who were wetting themselves listening to the track.

The track posted here I thought was pretty decent.

  10. VOJ's cover of Fuck You was about the only good thing they ever did IMO, could never really get into them and saw them as a Metal Sludge slaves

    First song here was ok.

    Second one - big meh

Third song - boring - been done over and over. This would likely be the 13th song on most 80's albums.

Forth song - can't do the vocals. Sounds like he is actually trying to sound stupid.

Last song - after a few listens this one might catch on with me, it's ok.

Overall, I don't have much affinity for them, but they're not terrible.

Guess I'm getting more picky with who I invest my time with :)
