  1. Have sampled these guys and just not in my wheelhouse of tastes at all.
  2. From preordering this I've gotten all 3 of these full songs....and digging them. Looking forward to this release.
  3. New single sadly not doing anything for me. I expected it to pick up and soar and just sort of falls flat. Hoping the next song I hear grabs me more.
  4. Another new band launched by melodic rock records. Sounding pretty good. Can definitely hear the Midnite City influences in the music with Rob Wylde and Pete Newdeck involved. Frankly, almost sounds like a Midnite City song just with different vocals. Initially for me, the music sounds fantastic but I'm needing to warm to the vocals a bit as I'm not familiar with the vocalist. Anyways, just thought I'd share the details here. MelodicRock Records is truly excited to bring a brand new, exciting melodic rock band to light. One that characteristics everything many of us love about the 80s and about driving, melodic rock n roll. NITRATE is that band. And the debut album is out July 20 and can be pre-ordered now. Pre-orders will get the lead track and one additional song via email shortly. Pre-order: http://melodicrock.com/articles/news-... British rockers NITRATE may be a new name, but you’ll recognise some of the faces. NITRATE is: Nick Hogg - Guitars & Keyboards Rob Wylde - Lead, Rhythm, Bass Guitar & Backing Vocals (Midnite City, Tigertailz) Joss Mennen - Lead & Backing Vocals (Zinatra/Mennen) Pete Newdeck - Drums & Backing Vocals (Midnite City, Eden’s Curse, Blood Red Saints, Newman) Inspired by the late 80’s rock scene with bands such as, Def Leppard, Europe, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and GNR, Nitrate is the brainchild of Nick Hogg (guitars/keyboards) who after playing in a few bands in the early 2000’s decided after a long absence from the music scene to get back into song writing again. Needing help, Nick enlisted songwriter/musician Rob Wylde (Midnite City/Tigertailz/Teenage Casket Company) who was back living in Nottingham from the US and had the same musical influences. Rob was able to structure/produce the songs, sing on the demo’s whilst playing drums, bass and guitar. Whilst Nick also played guitar and keyboards. A year on and with over an albums worth of material, a record contract was signed with MelodicRock Records. With Rob Wylde about to launch Midnite City, the hunt went on for a suitable vocalist to allow Rob the opportunity to focus on launching his new band. Andrew McNeice suggested a few vocalists and was keen to use an authentic 80’s singer, so Nick took the opportunity to contact Joss Mennen (Zinatra/Mennen) and asked if he would be interested in singing lead vocals on the album. (Zinatra’s ‘Great Escape’ being one of Nick’s favourite albums). To complete the line-up, taking over mixing/drums and adding backing vocals to the album is Pete Newdeck (Midnite City, Eden’s Curse, Blood Red Saints, Newman). After being mixed by Newdeck, the songs were sent to Harry Hess (Harem Scarem) who mastered them at his studio in Canada. Nitrate isn’t a one-off project, Album 2 is already written with the same Hogg/Wylde writing partnership and will be coming your way in 2019. Engineered by: Leon Bailey Mixed by: Pete Newdeck Mastered by: Harry Hess Produced by: Rob Wylde Album Artwork by: Nello Dell’Omo Track Listing: I'll Be Waiting Crazy Like You Attraction Insane Hot Summer Nights Crank Up The Weekend Only You Real World Breathe Dangerous I'll Be There
  5. Interesting. What the heck is that title though? They come up with some strange stuff for song titles and album titles.
  6. Holding On sounds nice....Like it even better than the first song.
  7. New project from Melodic Rock records. Sounding promising to me. I've seen Andrew say on FB it'll be a mix of AOR and melodic rock something like possibly One Desire did on their debut. Nice seeing Dennis Ward involved. Noticed that Erik Martensson was involved with the first single but not sure if he has any other involvement on the album. http://melodicrock.com/articles/news-feed/2018/06/01/hearts-fire-launch-premium-preorder-debut-single-0 HEARTS ON FIRE ARE: Jean Funes - Lead and Rhythm Guitars, Acoustic Guitar (Sound Of Eternity) Richard Andermyr - Vocals, Guitars (Rian) Joel Mejia – Drums (Codigo Eterno) Dennis Ward - Bass and Keyboards Mixed and Mastered by Dennis Ward I’m proud to launch the debut single and lyric video for HEARTS ON FIRE’s ‘Hearts On Fire’: Single ‘Hearts On Fire’: Bass and Keyboards by Erik Martensson Mixed and Mastered by Erik Martensson Hearts On Fire are a modern melodic rock band with a sound based on the best of the 80s scene, influences including the likes of Def Leppard, Journey, Whitesnake, Dokken and Bon Jovi. Hearts On Fire is about passion for life. All the songs are born from a place of true inspiration. We believe that music is the perfect way to express deep emotions like Love, Pain, Regret, sadness etc. and the album ‘Call Of Destiny’ is about that. The band was formed in 2017 by guitarist Jean Funes (Sound Of Eternity), and with the help of drummer Joel Mejia (Codigo Eterno) they begun to work in new songs ideas and sketches. Later they were introduced to vocalist Richard Andermyr (Rian), by MRR’s Andrew McNeice, and together they brought to life all these songs about real life experiences.
  8. Very similar for me Really an iconic album though and I think this album along with Hysteria really got a ton of play from me....that 85-90 period was just such a fabulous time for music. I'm not big on these re-issues but I've just bought the plain CD for this one much like I did with the Hysteria album recently. My original CD has been put through the ringer so I welcome the update here. I don't get into all the extra stuff though. I don't need more clutter than I already have ?
  9. Another sample: Feeling at this point I'll probably pass on this at least as a pre-order. I like Ted and love Degreed but this is just not really hitting the mark for me. It's just a bit odd. It's almost like a mellower version of Degreed. Maybe I'll feel differently once I can hear some full songs.
  10. I see he teamed up with the guys from Degreed for his next solo album coming out soon. I believe it's out in July directly through him or September worldwide. Few snippets below. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I like Degreed a lot and can hear their influences in the music. What really does it with Degreed for me though is the edge Robin's gritty vocals add to it. So far, not sure these songs are grabbing me quite as much as Degreed has in the past. Interesting combination though and will probably keep an eye on this.
  11. Looks like the first single called Uncomfortable has been released from the new album Vicious due out July 27th: Sounding pretty good to me.
  12. So good live! As I was at Def Leppard this past weekend, I kept thinking the whole time how awesome it would be to see H.e.a.t with a similar setup....Full production, big HD screens, lasers/lighting, etc, etc....wow, how great that could be.....even though I know it'll never happen.
  13. My top 5 as we approach mid-year... 1. Shiraz Lane - Carnival Days 2. W.e.t - Earthrage 3. Maverick - Cold Star Dancer 4. Station - More Than The Moon 5. Perfect Plan - All Rise Honorable mention : Dangerous Curves - So Dirty Right Love Shiraz Lane's album....rocks, variety, great production. This just hits my tastes perfectly. Really like W.e.t too. For me, I think it's my favorite W.e.t album to date. I'd say the same about Maverick too....My favorite release from them to date. I just like the vibe of it and just has a unique feel. I think the title track is among my favorite songs this year. I'm a big Station fan and like the album. However, there's a couple too many ballads here that I find myself skipping past. And I'm still irritated they left off two solid songs in All You Need Is a Heartbeat and Never Enough. It would've been stronger if they had taken off say Northport Sunset and Walking Away and replaced them with those other songs. As for Perfect Plan, solid release but find myself wishing it had a bit more edge to it. Stone Cold Lover is probably my favorite song here. Basically, I like most of the first 8 tracks then find myself sort of losing interest for the last 3 songs....that 1985 song just causes me to tune out. I had to give an honorable mention to Dangerous Curves as I like that album too. It's a fun album and feel like I need to spend a little more time with it.
  14. Can't say I'm caring much for Drink Alone...glad it was left off the album. It's okay I guess as a one off type song but not anything I'll be coiming back to often. Still love the latest album though and think it's gotten even better with time and seeing some of the songs live.
  15. Agree. Still my favorite release this year also.
  16. I kind of agree. I do like the album a lot and no denying it sounds fantastic. For me, it's the kind of album that's enjoyable to listen to but at the same time doesn't really get my blood pumping or get me pounding on the car dashboard. I still find myself wishing they mixed in a little more edge on a song or two. I do really like Stone Cold Lover and Never Surrender, with What Comes Around, Too Late and In & Out Of Love not far behind. And Bad City Woman isn't too bad. There's a couple songs I find myself sort of glossing over a bit and really don't care much for the 1985 song. Overall, it's good though and top 10 material. For me though, it's a long ways behind stuff like Shiraz Lane, W.e.t and Maverick that I'm really digging and gets my juices flowing
  17. Got to see H.e.a.t in Chicago this past weekend....Wow, they blew the roof off the place! Anyways, also got the chance to chat a bit with Jona and asked if there is any talk of the next album. He said they have about 8 songs ready so far and were planning to hit the studio in the fall but that might be getting pushed back now to the spring due to a European tour. He said they're definitely aiming to have the next album out by the end of 2019. He said they really can't afford to take as much time off as they did with the last album as the band is the only source of income for most of the guys. So hopefully next year at this time we're gearing up for the next album
  18. Way too expensive....all I'd want is the 4 Cd's. Hopefully they just release the 4 Cd's as a set for like $40-$50 or something.
  19. Finally got my actual CD and really liking this too....just good, solid throwback melodic rock and pretty catchy stuff. I quite like Bad City Woman, Stone Cold Lover, What Goes Around and Never Surrender. Nothing wrong with any of the other songs either though. The singer can definitely sing and there is some good musicianship and production going on throughout. I'd say this will surely be in my top 10.
  20. I tend to agree about the ballads....Does feel like at least one or two too many. I think where I mostly notice it is toward the end of the album with Northport Sunset and Walking Away so close together. I'd have rather had All You Need Is A Heartbeat or some other uptempo song in place of at least one of those songs. I have to admit I'm a little irritated they left that song off as I liked it a lot and feel like it would've been among my favorite songs on this. I even liked the other single Never Enough more than those other two songs. With the ballads and a couple songs being too long, the album does seem to drag just a tiny bit in a couple spots. On my past couple listens I sort of find myself wanting to skip past Losing You and Northport Sunset. But I do still like the album a lot and find myself really liking 7-8 tunes on this. And do think I like it slightly better overall than the debut. The debut might've had a couple stronger songs but feel like this tighter top to bottom. Solid release overall and looking forward to seeing some of these new songs live at MRF5
  21. Listened to this and wow, pretty impressed. Really solid melodic rock album. I'm not sure they made a great choice putting out In & Out Of Love as the first single as it gave me the perception that this was going to be a very lite AOR album. Basically that song is the closest thing to a ballad on the whole album. It's mostly just full of upbeat melodic melodic rock songs full of hooks, great vocals and some cool riffs/musicianship. I think an album it sort of reminds me of stylistically is Harem Scarem's United in terms of just being a solid melodic rock album with some 80's vibes but still sounding modern and not copycat or cheesy. However, there's a couple songs here though that feel like they could be perfect songs for like an 80's movie or something. Good stuff though and would say the last two songs above (Never Surrender and Stone Cold Lover) are more representative of the album than the first two songs (In & Out Of Love and Gone Too Far).
  22. I basically feel the same way. I can't think of another band I've had such a big swing with. These guys were right there with my favorite bands at one point and I stuck with them and gave them the benefit of the doubt for a long time.....Up to about the Have A Nice Day album. After that album though, they fell off a cliff for me with releases so bad that I couldn't even listen to them anymore. They're a band that I wish would've quit rather than turn into what they have.
  23. Agree! Might be my favorite yet. Reviews I've seen on this have all been glowing and the more I hear, the more I like. I think I'm off the fence now
  24. I think I'm gonna pre-order....Only $10 with free shipping on Amazon so not a bad deal. Read a few reviews and all have been pretty positive. I saw one reviewer say there weren't any ballads and the first single was the most "ballad" song. And supposed to be a few pretty good melodic rockers outside the songs we've heard. The vocalist definitely can sing and songs are well written with some obvious good musicianship. If there was a bit more edge it would be a no brainer. It's one that could easily go either way for me but I don't see too much coming down the pipe the next month or two so figure I'll give it a try. Right now my rotation is Shiraz Lane, Maverick, Station and Dangerous Curves so maybe it'll strike a chord being different than those.
