  1. Allow me to be the first to vote for Black N Blue. "Chains Around Heaven"..."Wicked Bitch"..."Hold On To 18"...those are some great anthems, and while there are plenty of classic contributions to the hard rock genre on this list, Black N Blue is the album that gets the most play time in my stereo.

  2. These guys aren't bad--there are FAR worse indies floating around out there collecting mad cash they don't deserve--but I think the production hurts them a little. Still, they serve up some solid late 80s/early 90s-style melodic hard rock/hair-metal. To my ears, they always sounded a little like a cross between early Jaded Heart and Britny Fox, with only the aforementioned so-so production holding them back from being something special.

However, unless this CD's value has shot up significantly in the last year or so, it's not worth the asking price. I've had 2 copies in the past 2 years...one sold for $185, the other sold for $150. So yeah, it's good but not THAT good, and yeah, it's pricey but not THAT pricey. <_<

As always, just my two cents' worth.

    Keep the faith.

    Mark

  3. Latest acquisitions...

    PUMP: "Breakdown to Breakthrough"

    WARRANT: "Born Again"

STORY OF THE YEAR: "In the Wake of Determination"

    WIG WAM: "Wig Wamania"

    ROB ZOMBIE: "Educated Horses"

DIRTY COWBOYS: "Rode Hard and Put Up Wet"

NEW TATTOO: "No Bones About It"

    LORDI: "Get Heavy"

    LORDI: "The Arockalypse"

  4. Picked up HOSTEL (Unrated) on Wednesday. Great, nasty hardcore horror movie that is essentially 40 minutes of N&A (that's norks and ass, in case you were wondering), followed by 30 minutes of sick, sadistic, cringe-inducing torture sequences, capped off by a bloody revenge-fueled finale.

In other words, I loved it!!

  5. Y&T is one of those bands that, while not bad, simply never did anything for me (c'mon, the least they could've done was wash my truck or something!). That said, if somebody put a double-barreled shotgun (or any kind of shotgun, for that matter) to my noggin' and forced me to listen to a Y&T album or else have my medulla oblongata obliterated, I would pick "Contagious," which I consider the least mediocre of the bunch.

    YOU MUST DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :axe:

    Jarred, did that say mediocre????

What, did I stutter or something? MEEEEEDIIIIIIIIIOOOOOOOOOCRRRRRRRRRRRRE.

    :P:P:P

  6. Seems like this release "poisoned" (God, I crack myself up  ) some folk's opinion of the band, but I don't hate it nearly as much as many people seem to. It doesn't get a lot of play in my stereo, but I find it to be a tolerable (nothing more) glam/hair-metal album, though yeah, it's a monumental disappointment by POISON standards. Still, I listen to it more than I do "Native Tongue," whatever that means (I know what some of you are thinking, that it means I have terrible taste in music!). :loser:

Anyway, all that to say I voted for "Shooting Star." Best song on the CD, bar none.

  7. Y&T is one of those bands that, while not bad, simply never did anything for me (c'mon, the least they could've done was wash my truck or something!). I know, I know, dissing Y&T around these parts isn't a popular opinion, but what else would you expect from a guy voted Least Likely To Be Popular in highschool? <_<

  8. I can now verify that the CDs he's selling are Russian versions, so those who are bothered by that hideously evil phenomenon known as Russian imports should beware. You should also be aware that it will take approximately 3 weeks to receive your CD...

Did they come in jewel cases and in unopened/sealed condition?

Yep, came in a nice, clean jewel case and was still-sealed. I have no complaints with the quality of the merchandise.

  9. OK, just to give ya'll an update on this seller, I can now verify that, as suspected, the CDs he's selling are Russian versions, so those who are bothered by that hideously evil phenomenon known as Russian imports should beware. :yikes: You should also be aware that it will take approximately 3 weeks to receive your CD, which may be fine for you patient folks, but is longer than this impatient, I-want-it-now sumbitch is willing to wait, so I will probably (never) buy from Nitro Music again.

On the positive side, the LORDI: "Get Heavy" CD I bought from him really rocks! :banger:

  10. I bought LORDI: "Get Heavy" from his eBay store last week. He contacted me immediately with payment instructions, contacted me again once I had sent payment by PayPal, then contacted me again the next day to say the CD had been shipped. So, in the contact department, he's top-notch.

Of course, all of that don't mean jack-squat if the CD never arrives! :P

Will keep you posted, but for what it's worth, I don't get a bad vibe from this guy. (Yes, I know, my vibes aren't worth much... :anon: )

  11. SAINTS & SINNERS...awesome band...in-yer-face attitude, cranking guitars, ripping riffs, huge hooks, explosive choruses, monster vocals...what's not to like? Not a bad song in sight, but for me, "Kiss the Bastards" is an absolute masterpiece, but I'm a sucker for a good revenge tale. :hammer:

  12. Folks, if Geoff recommends it, it's usually safe for me to buy a copy sight-unseen (or, rather, sound-unheard, or something like that). Two days ago, that's exactly what I did. While browsing the music store at the mall, my eyes happened to fall on The Used: "In Love & Death" and I said to myself, "Self, the self-proclaimed sexist man on earth a.k.a. Geoff on Heavy Harmonies claimed this is a good CD, so you should just go ahead and buy it without bothering to listen to sound samples first." With myself thoroughly convinced by myself that this was an excellent idea, that's exactly what I did.

Well, myself needs to be bitch-slapped.

I like modern/nu-metal/emo/screamo/whatever-the-hell-you-call-it as much as the next guy, but to echo what Tim(2) said, the songs just weren't there. Here and there a hook peeked its head out like an attention-starved stepchild hoping its abusive father wasn't lurking around waiting to give it a smack, but that only happened on a few songs, and most of the time I was left thinking, "Self, we have purchased an inferior metal CD that will not spend much time in our stereo and will instead gather much dust on the shelf."

So it was not the occasional scream that turned me off (I like some screaming...especially when my wife does it  ) but rather the lack of truly good songs. So unfortunately, The Used won't get used much by me.

And in closing, lest there by any confusion, I'm not upset with Geoff, just busting his chops a little bit. :drink:
