  1. Just finished spinning the new NICKELBACK: "The Long Road" CD...pretty much the same modern melodic rock sound of their previous album ("Silver Side Up") but with slightly better songs.

Prior to that I checked out the new LIMP BIZKIT: "Results May Vary" CD, but I won't discuss that here, since I don't want to be crucified.

And lest anyone think I've abandoned my love for true melodic hard rock, I also gave PRETTY MAIDS: "Planet Panic" a spin in my stereo this morning, along with MILLION: "Detonator" & HOUSE OF LORDS: "Sahara."

    Keep the faith.

  2. At this exact moment I'm listening to...absolutely nothing. However, a few minutes ago I spun EUROPE's "Bad Blood" from their excellent "Prisoners in Paradise" album.

Prior to that it was "Salvation" off the brand new LAUDAMUS CD. (Excellent melodic metal, by the way...check it out if you haven't done so yet.)

    Now you know!!!

    Keep the faith.

  3. One of the catchiest choruses I've ever heard is "Love Bomb Baby" by TIGERTAILZ. That song practically defines what a great glam-metal anthem should sound like. Monster hooks with shout-it-out gang backing vocals. Whenever I listen to that song, it sticks in my head for days. I guess you could call it taffy for your eardrums...

    Keep the faith.

  4. Well, if you think BON JOVI cares more about money than music, you may be right. However, BON JOVI has never strayed too far from his roots; every CD he's released (save for the "Young Guns II" soundtrack) has been firmly fixed in melodic rock territory. Even when grunge ruled the radio, Jon & company never jumped on that bandwagon and tried to cash in like so many other groups, which indicates he does care somewhat for the music he makes.

Yes, I do consider PEARL JAM crap. In my opinion, they never wrote a single song worth listening to. Even as much as I loathe NIRVANA, at least a couple of their songs were tolerable. I didn't mean to start a big argument over the merits (or lack thereof) of PEARL JAM; as you said, this is all a matter of opinion. I don't need to provide rationale or logic for my position because my tastes are just that--mine. And yours are yours. I suppose we can applaud PEARL JAM for their anti-corporation stance, their rebelliousness, if you will, but when it comes to rock bands, the bottom line--at least for me--is this: are the songs good or not? This is where PEARL JAM fails. But again, that's just my opinion. I am a diehard melodic hard rock/metal fan, which means I love screaming guitars, instant hooks, powerhouse choruses, big backing vocals...things which PEARL JAM and their brethren pushed underground. Given my musical proclivities, it's only natural I dislike the band.

I still find it amusing that you came to a melodic rock-oriented website and seem a little annoyed that we don't have broad tastes in music. For the record, while 98% of what I listen to falls into the classic melodic hard rock genre, I also occasionally listen to nu-breed, no-metal, and yes, even some rap-metal, on rare occasion. What I do not listen to is any of that Seattle stuff. But hey, that's just me.

I'm sorry if you took any of this personally. This is a discussion forum and that's all we're doing--discussing. However, for the record, you did help initiate this little debate. You were not "attacked," as you so eloquently put it, simply because you posted that you were listening to PEARL JAM, you were "attacked" because you began that posting by ranting against BON JOVI. Yes, my friend, if you go back and look, you drew first blood. This board is all in the name of fun, but don't fire bullets unless you're ready to take some shots in return...

Now, just to keep on-topic, here's what passed through my CD player today:

    DALTON: "Injection"

    ANGELICA: s/t

    THE ALMIGHTY: "Powertrippin'"

    BISS: "Joker in the Deck"

    POISON: "Hollyweird"

    Keep the faith.

  5. You're right, it is hard to compare BON JOVI to PEARL JAM, because where BON JOVI is good and worth listening to, PEARL JAM is about as pleasurable as chugging down a crap-log.

BON JOVI a sellout? Why, because they're popular?? Because they play halftime shows? That doesn't make them sellouts, it makes them wealthy. I'd ask if you'd label JADED HEART sellouts if they got invited to play a sporting event, but judging from your musical tastes, you probably consider JADED HEART a waste of time as well...

There's no need for BON JOVI or any other melodic rock band to go "outside the box." When pop-metal bands head in new directions, we end up with garbage like WARRANT's "Belly to Belly." Ugh. No thank you. But tell me, how exactly did PEARL JAM break the mold? They were crap when they debuted, they were crap at the height of their career, and they're crap now, as far as I'm concerned. Maybe if they went outside the box, they'd actually release something good. Not likely, but hey, I believe in miracles...

Listen, we're all entitled to our tastes and opinions and yes, even your opinion is welcomed here. It may make you a target, but that's the price you pay for coming to a melodic rock website and singing the praises of alternative junk like PEARL JAM.

Now, in keeping with the original topic of this forum, here's the last five CDs that have passed through my player:

    BABYLON A.D.: "American Blitzkrieg"

    RUDE: "Touch It"

    DADDY DYNAMITE: "Looking For Trouble"

    BON JOVI: "The Red EP"

    AXXIS: "II"

    Keep the faith.
