  2. Their second album out now. I'm suprised that Jez hasn't jumped on this, probably right up his alley. My first thread for the first release: http://heavyharmonies.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=31712&do=findComment&comment=685188 From http://BANNED WEBSITE.blogspot.com/2014/05/BAD-RADIATOR-Shanghai-2014-Stage-Dolls-Spin-Gallery-Richard-Marx-Mark-Spiro-Rick-Springfield.html Last year we presented exclusively on the blog the debut album by Swedes BAD RADIATOR, and now the guys are back with another fine slice of melodic tunes with their new CD "Shangai". If you missed the first album, or never heard about Bad Radiator, these experienced musicians were formerly known as Grace, which rose some popularity with the single 'Ingen Kan Alska Som Vi' (No One Can Love As Do) used in the Swedish movie of the same name from 1988. "Shangai" follows the effective path of debut; short songs adorned with superb melodies, nice hooks, breezy harmonies and quite catchy moments. Bad Radiator is a mixed bag of styles that ranges from the pop brilliance of Cutting Crew or Rick Springfield to the light AOR of Stage Dolls and Spin Gallery, whilst stopping off at Richard Marx for good measure. As eclectic as that sounds, the end results are nothing short of superb. Just check the enjoyable melodies on rockers such as "Tell Me What You Want", "My House Is On Fire", and the pumping "Don't Need the Money". More poppy yet not less catchy we have "What Are We Fighting For", "The World Is Changing", "I've Had Enough", but where Bad Radiator shows it '80s pedigree it's on the AORish cuts: The Stage Dolls-like "Can't Let Go", "Your Love" (akin Street Talk), and great midtempo ballad "Do You Remember". Bad Radiator's "Shangai" is a mandatory listening for lovers of the lighter side of AOR with a Scandinavian scent. These guys have been around since the late '80s and on the evidence presented here they've used their experience wisely. Bad Radiator knows how to craft an instant melody, at times light as the thin air, and then balanced by a catchy, pulsating rockin' vibe. Although to my ears production was much better on the first record, this album is a real pleasure from start to finish. VERY RECOMMENDED. https://sv-se.facebook.com/BadRadiator

  8. From blabbermouth.net: According to Australia's long-running rock station Triple M, AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd will release a solo album, "Head Job", on August 29. The CD's first single, "Repo Man", will be premiered on the station this Friday. "I hope everyone thinks this is a great album from start to finish because that's the idea," Rudd told Triple M (hear audio below). "We didn't put anything on there that we didn't like. There's no filler. There's plenty of Phil, but no filler." Other songs set to appear on "Head Job" — which is described as "a very personal album about the shit that goes on" — include the rocking title track, the upbeat dirgy groove of "Bad Move" and the relationship-driven "Crazy". Rudd also commented on the new AC/DC album which the band recently finished recording at Bryan Adams' studio in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. "We're happy to have it done and it's all very good, by the way," he said. "There's no comparisons between the two [the new AC/DC album and 'Head Job'], but they're both very good." Rudd joined AC/DC in 1974. He had previously played with Angry Anderson in BUSTER BROWN and left that band to join the COLOURED BALLS with Lobby Loyde. When AC/DC bassist Mark Evans left the band in 1977, Rudd became the only Australian-born member of AC/DC. Rudd exited AC/DC in 1983 and was replaced by Simon Wright, then Chris Slade. When Slade left in 1993, Rudd rejoined the band. According to Noise11.com, Rudd moved to Tauranga, New Zealand in 1983 and has lived there ever since. https://www.facebook.com/pages/PHIL-RUDD/32064438844
  9. Anberlin's final album and final tour. From Tooth & Nail: Anberlin will release their last album, "Lowborn", on June 23rd, 2014. This album brings Anberlin full circle as "Lowborn" will be released on Tooth & Nail, the band's original label. Instead of recording the album together, the musicians did their parts with separate producers they each selected. Drums were recorded with Matt Goldman in Atlanta and later combined with bass and guitar in Lakeland, FL with Copeland’s Aaron Marsh. Vocals were recorded with the band’s longtime collaborator Aaron Sprinkle in Franklin, TN. Consisting of Stephen Christian (vocals), Joseph Milligan (guitar), Devon Rexroat (bass), Nathan Young (drums), and Christian McAlhaney (guitar), Anberlin have been a band for 12 years. The rock group formed in central Florida in 2002 and have released six innovative and sincere albums that have affected fans in deeply emotional ways. "Lowborn" will be the band’s seventh and final full-length. “Usually breakups happen quickly and suddenly, an implosion of sorts,” McAlhaney says. “What is unique about the end of Anberlin is that we discussed where people were at in their lives, what that meant for the band, and then made plans for the end on our own terms.” lowborn reflects true artistic freedom for the band, who felt liberated from any sort of expectation or pressure. “I wanted to enjoy the creative process one more time, with no restrictions, no one breathing down my neck for a single,” Christian says. “Just unadulterated creative freedom.” The musicians started collecting new material at the end of last year. The idea was not to crank out as many songs as possible but to actually focus on crafting solidly good ideas that melded each musician’s individual tastes and influences. “We were really honest with each, probably more so than in the past,” Young says. “You have to come to a point where, with different opinions, there’s no right or wrong. There was a fearlessness which was really freeing and exciting for all of us. To just not have to think about anything else except what’s the best thing for the song.” Some of the album’s lyrics address the band’s end and history. “I know there are going to be a lot of questions as to why we decided to break up and I explain it all in the song ‘Atonement,’” Christian says. “And I want to make sure that the our fans and friends know that we will always remember them, and the moments spent with them were some of the greatest of my entire life. I tried to convey that in the song ‘Harbinger.’” Another track, “Stranger Ways,” first appeared in demo form in the band’s farewell video earlier this year. Each musician has plans for the future after Anberlin, some concrete and some vague, some musical and some not. Those plans, in various ways, will be revealed in the coming months. For everyone, this is a celebration of what has been achieved rather than the mourning of a loss. “This is the end of an era of my life,” Rexroat says. “A long and great era. It also means a new beginning. It’s overwhelming to think about filling all my time with something new, but it’s also exciting.” Anberlin will release their final album, "Lowborn", on June 23rd, 2014 via Tooth & Nail Records, followed by a farewell world tour. Tour dates below with many more to be announced in both the U.S. and additional countries. http://www.anberlin.com/main/final-album-final-tour/ https://www.facebook.com/anberlin Tracklist: We Are Destroyer Armageddon Stranger Ways Velvet Covered Brick Atonement Birds Of Prey Dissenter Losing It All Hearing Voices Harbinger
  10. Loud Lion above ANYTHING this year will make me laugh. Complete drivel Haha, yeah, speaking of drivel, I had to stop reading the Loudlion thread that you guys were raping. Just searching for it now to see the evidence I can't find the mofo. Anyway, the lyrics are stupid, yes, and it rips off Def Leppard, yes. Does it kill children and rape baby seals? Not that I heard. It's firmly based on what Def Leppard did, but I love Def Leppard, and I love this. Hooks and sweet melodies all over the joint. Good musicianship, well produced and solid vocals. Nothing for me to dislike at all. I truly can't really remember what pointless reasons you guys were giving on why you hate it so much, but like I said, drivel of a much higher order than what's on this disc. I love moments on the HEAT disc. The best songs on the HEAT disc are better than the best songs on the Loudlion disc, but scoring albums as a whole, I listen to the Loudlion disc from start to end (bar the instrumental, of course) but I reach for the skip button 4 times on the HEAT disc. Sorry dudes, that's just not on for me. I just basically completely hate 'A shot at redemption,' 'We will never die' plods along inanely (though I admit I'm not quite skipping this one every single time just yet), 'All the nights' is just bland as hell and I can't sit through it anymore, and I love the 2 verses in 'Laughing at tomorrow' but despise the chorus. As soon as the 2nd verse is over, I need to hit the skip button. Nails on a chalkboard is what that chorus is. And for the record, 'Enemy in me' is getting close to the brink too. Honestly, I hate to speak ill of HEAT. I think they're fantastic and the great songs are absolutely brilliant, but they really missed the mark on a few tracks this time, and for that I much prefer the Loudlion disc, as they have done nothing to offend me. Because I just listen to music instead of drudging up pointless reasons to dislike otherwise good tunes. 11. From Palisade Records: The greatest melodic rock band to never make it out of the 80's! E19 are five guys from New Jersey that, somehow, never left the 1980's. They still have their teased up big hair and still wear the same clothes that they did 30 years ago at their club shows and prom gigs. Never landing a big record deal, they still believe that someday they will be discovered and be the biggest band ever. Actually it's Gary Schutt's early, unused song catalog! The band is named after the practice room at Berklee that, for some reason, was popular with all the metal bands, having the nickname "Metal E19". Schutt started writing original compositions about 1984 and initially recording ideas from cassette to cassette deck then eventually recording and performing all the instruments in his parent's basement on a 4-track recorder, and well into and after his stay at Berklee College of Music. Debut album "Just Down The Hall" releasing August 2014. https://www.facebook.com/E19music

  13. If you like Queen and/or Robby Valentine, this may be something for you. Review by Henri Strik (edited by Robert James Pashman)/backgroundmagazine.nl Jono is a Swedish rock band that was formed by singer, keyboard player and composer Johan Norrby. He already released a solo record in 2006, an album which featured musicians that are nowadays his fellow band members. After this release, he decided to go for a band project which would include those who had helped him recording his album. He named the band after the first two letters of his first and last name. Two of his band names are already known in the music business. Guitarist Stefan Helleblad is also a member of Within Temptation and drummer Nicka Hellenberg played the drums on their latest album The Unforgiving (2011). Furthermore, the band includes keyboardist Johan Carlgren and bassist Janne Henriksson. The fruits of the collaboration between those musicians can now be heard on their debut Requiem, an interesting sounding album on which all of the songs were written by Johan Norrby himself. Throughout the entire album you can hear that he most of all, likes to write songs that have a lot of pathos, passion and drama. Therefore it is not so difficult to hear that he must have been inspired by acts such as Queen, Mika, Robby Valentine and Valensia- all acts that have the same kind of singer that just sounds like Johan when he sings in the higher regions. They also include a lot of pathos, passion and drama in the music they released, music that was most of all written and performed on the piano just like Mr. Norrby probably did. The nine songs on Requiem display a fine combination of progressive rock, rock and pop. All of them are very much worth listening to and are sometimes related to the music which bands such as Europe, Supertramp, Toto, The Sparks and Muse have released on their albums. However the ultimate highlights on this album were for me the title track and Symphony, which are very bombastic pieces of music with many beautiful orchestral parts and melodic guitar playing. Without a doubt, Jono could be proud of this very professional sounding debut. Those who like the music made by the acts mentioned above should try this album without hesitation. They probably will enjoy it as much as I did! http://www.jonotheband.se/ https://sv-se.facebook.com/jonotheband

  15. From http://BANNED WEBSITE.blogspot.com/ After the successful response from the fans with the reissue of their '80s material (presented at BANNED WEBSITE), German cult AOR outfit TOKYO are back featuring 4 out of the 5 original members (Klaus Luley, Robby Musenbichler, Ken Taylor & Lothar Krell). Original drummer Fritz Matzka died in 1992 and has been replaced by Aaron Thier. Musenbichler & Co. started to write new songs last year and the result is Tokyo's new album "One World". While the band's last official album 'San' (1983) was slightly more melodic rock oriented, 31 years have passed. And also for Tokyo members and their musical development. "One World" delivers the typical Tokyo melodies, but as well different musical sources acquired by these musicians all over the years, specially Robby Musenbichler, always unquiet and searching for fresh musical grounds. But don't worry, Tokyo 2014 is updated to modern times, yet still melodic. Opener and title track "One World" has a steady mid-tempo rhythm with great AORish vocals and refined keyboards in the background. A cut with a single potential for Classic Rock Radio. "I'm Free" is another song with an AOR touch akin Mr. Mister, although the chorus is more punchy and melodious. Later, "It's Springtime Again" is a trademark Musenbichler ballad with nice acoustics, pianos and a little Scorpions feel. The poppy rocker "If We Don't Believe" strangely reminds me their countryman Dominoe, and has a very interesting middle part, while the somehow hi-tech melodic rocker "Do You Feel The Thunder" brings to mind Luley's other band, Craaft. On the more different songs from the Tokyo traditional mould, we have the quite modern rocker "Stand Up" with a good guitar work and a little progressive passage, the poppy "Soon", and the Euro-rock of "Children Of Darkness". All are interesting and add a new facet to Tokyo's music. Perhaps old school melodic rockers and fans of the band's first era were expecting another early '80s sounding album from Tokyo, but the guys are showing on "One World" where they are musically in 2014. And I like what I hear, mixing the trademark melodies known from this quintet with explorative sounds always centered in rock but trying to avoid common places. A quite recommended listening.
