  1. Actually, scanning is easier for me than cellphone pics, since my entire listing workflow is PC-based. Also, it's easier to make images consistent size, not deal with lighting/glare issues, etc. Also, it makes the back covers readable for those that want details.
  2. And that's a wrap on another annual donation drive. While it didn't meet goal (it never does), it ended up at a respectible 83%, which is leaps and bounds better than I was expecting 2-3 weeks ago. So the lights stay on for another year. I'll leave the links up for another week or so in case there are any stragglers. Thank you to everyone who participated and for continuing to be a part of Heavy Harmonies! -Dan
  3. Actually yes, although it's more for the fun than the actual profit when all is said and done, i.e., I wouldn't want to have to put food on the table or provide for a family doing it, but it's profitable. I am trying to stay away from bulk purchases though, because even if the price is right, say under 25 U.S. cents, I accumulated so much of that prepping for garage sale season that I'm out of room. I've got about 30 bankers boxes of miscellaneous cheapo or unsorted CDs sitting in my storage unit at the moment awaiting Spring. So I'm being a bit more descriminating when out and about thrifting, looking things up online before buying, which takes a lot more time, but limiting my purchases to those where it's worth listing on eBay. I'll typically look at what the lowest price is something currently listed for, and can I undercut that while still making it worth my time. That, to me, is more important than what something DID sell for in the past, as you don't know how many people may or may not have been looking for it at that specific point in time... what matters is what am I competing against RIGHT NOW should I go to list it. I actually stay away from mainstream/popular artists unless it is a bootleg, minor label release, limited/bonus edition, or possibly import. There's far too much incorrectly-listed crap using eBay or other seller's stock images to think that people will differentiate between pressings or releases. The two exceptions to this are the "target" discs of the mid-1980s, which can still command a pretty penny, or some of the early Vertigo discs. I stick with releases where there are no or few results. There's always the possibility that it's so niche that nobody ever heard of it or wants it, but to me that's a gamble worth taking, as opposed to listing the 1,433rd copy of Aerosmith's Permanent Vacation. While it absolutely takes more time to list, I refuse to use stock images and always scan the front of the jewel case, back of jewel case, and if unsealed, the disc itself, so people can see exactly what they are buying.
  4. I cannot get this fucking song out of my head...
  5. Reminds me of vintage GNR in places, yet more melodic in others. Band has the entire album up on Youtube.
  6. Uhhh... hoo dis? Don't know who the fuck they are, but me likey! Lead vox sounds at times like David Draiman from Disturbed, but also completely not. Some older tracks:
  7. The synthwave blend I never knew I needed... album apparently coming 2024. Older tracks: VERY Blessed by a Broken Heart vibes on that last one...
  8. I was expecting exactly NADA from this... but damn if it isn't way better than I was expecting.
  9. 1 day left in the annual Heavy Harmonies donation drive! We've gotten to 67% of goal, but unfortunately it looks like we'll end up $400-500 short of the last several year's final tallies. My thanks to everyone who has donated thus far. -Dan
  10. Their storage tanks of extra daylight don't empty as quickly. Seriously though, it actually never was for the farmers: https://www.nytimes.com/article/daylight-saving-time-questions.html "To farmers, daylight saving time is a disruptive schedule foisted on them by the federal government; a popular myth even blamed them for its existence. To some parents, it’s a nuisance that can throw bedtime into chaos. To small business owners, it’s great."
  11. I do a lot of thrifting, picking up discs for eBay resale, but VERY little of it ends up being in HH genres. Actual used CD stores around here are long gone.
  12. It was just a reference site at first, called "The Halls of Glam" that I hosted on my employee webspace at the University of Illinois. I then moved it off to its own domain, and the message board came later.
  13. A lot has happened in the 25 years that HH has been around (in one form or another). Not just in the world, but in everyone's lives, habits, and preferences, not to mention new technologies, platforms, etc. When this site started there was no music streaming. We traded CD-Rs. Now people don't know what a CD-R even is. -Dan
  14. Just about one week left in the annual donation drive and we've crawled across the 50% of goal mark. So half of the year's out-of-pocket expenses are covered... but it looks like the drive will finish well short compared to the last several years. Thank you to everyone who has supported thus far, and if you haven't... well poopypants on you! I'll probably leave the dono links/buttons up for a week or so after the 31st just in case I can nag any more deadbeats into contributing. -Dan
  15. Well we're in a good mood this morning I see... I've taken the step of staying away from news, social media, etc. and just ignoring the rest of the world burning. There's nothing I can do about it anyway. It's ironic that all the prognosticators had said that "Oh noes! Trump will get us into World War III" yet nothing happened under his watch, and look where we are now. The current administration is giving away all our tax dollars to outher countries on not one, but TWO war fronts... while opening the southern border to millions of illegals that we can't support. It's only going to get worse heading into next year's election. Disconnect and just listen to music until the world inevitably implodes. Happy Monday everybody!!!
  16. The prior blu-rays of this ilk with Styx and Tommy Shaw were quite decent, so I don't expect this to be any different. Given as huge a pain in the ass tracking down previous Night Ranger blu-rays has been once they go out of print, I would suggest not waiting if this is up your alley. Blu-Ray (US$22.65): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CF4KMZCY?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details CD/DVD (US$18.98): https://www.amazon.com/Years-Night-Contemporary-Youth-Orchestra/dp/B0CBQNPJCZ
  17. Amusing... pizza anyone? http://www.ballsqueezer.net/
  18. Eww. My favorite comment on the page is "Of all the songs Roger Waters has recorded over the years, that is certainly one of them".
  19. Two-thirds of the way through the drive and 2 weeks left to go. Unfortunately, we haven't even hit the 50% mark. It's on track to be the lowest annual donation drive since 2012. Sigh. Thanks to everyone who has donated to support the site. -Dan
  20. Out now on BMG Records... absolutely nothing like Slipknot at all... not like Stone Sour either IMO, although closer to the latter than the former.
