  1. It's time once again for folks to guess my top 5 albums of 2022 and then tell me how wrong I was. Yay! While Geoff cannot leave Aussieland, he has graciously offered to ship his tongue to whomever wins the contest for the winning prize tongue bath. The contest goes like this: 1. Someone posts their guess in 1,2,3,4,5 order. 2. I reply saying how many of the 5 guessed albums are correct, and also how many are in correct spots (without stating explicitly WHICH ones are correct). 3. Next person guesses based upon prior guesses and my feedback. 4. Only one attempt per person... unless we run out of active members participating. I think my winners may a bit more predictable than previous years... well most of them anyway. -Dan
  2. So bummed. When this video dropped this week I though it was something from a forthcoming album, but sadly no...

  4. That entire list is 99% vinyl. I guess cd collectors are cheapskates.

  7. It's Dec. 24, and technically Christmas Eve, so... Merry Christmas* everyone! -Dan * The greeting "Merry Christmas!" is intended as general positive wishes regardless of whatever holiday you do or don't specifically celebrate, so if your panties are in a twist because I didn't use the culturally inclusive "Happy Holidays", that's a YOU problem not a ME problem, and you are cordially invited to stuff a life-sized candy cane up your posterior... sideways. Merry Christmas!
  8. Came out 2 weeks ago on Napalm Records. It was inevitable, given the stylistic similarity. While I'm normally not a huge fan of albums that are entirely covers, anything ABBA can do no wrong in my world, so I'm digging this. Super Trouper Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Current policy example taken verbatim from an employment offer letter within the last 30 days: University of XXX faculty, staff and students are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This employment offer is contingent on your timely submission of proof of your vaccination. If you are not able to receive the vaccine for medical or religious reasons, you may seek approval for an exemption in accordance with applicable University processes. The problem is that it is open to interpretation as to whether "fully vaccinated" includes boosters or just the initial vaccination(s). I've seen it enforced both ways depending on the employer.

Certain employers are still mandating boosters here as conditions of employment. Some universities are requiring boosters as conditions of enrollment. Biden is also still trying to enforce it on members of the military. So mandates are still out there in various forms.

Ehh? Link please. That sounds fucking insane... or was that sarcasm? No emoji. In normal times past, it would be obvious sarcasm, but with everything that has happened in the last 3 years, ANYTHING, no matter how ludicrous, is plausible.

Tell that to all the people who lost jobs and businesses for refusing to get vaccinated. Tell that to the people who were deplatformed and debanked for saying or writing things deemed "misinformation" at the time, but now turning out to be accurate after the fact. Tell that to the people who were arrested or fined due to this draconian nonsense. It set precedent for what sheeple will tolerate when COVID-24 is the next pandemic. Much more was lost than was ever "given back".

I played a shit ton back in my college days, soft-tip at the bars and steel-tip at home. A lot of people played 301/501, but I always liked Cricket the best.

That, and more importantly the fact that many of the people in charge in the various Australian states revealed themselves to be the most Orwellian authoritarianist nazis on the planet. Yeah, that "minor" component. They took Mein Kampf as an instruction manual.
  16. I actually like this better than the first one.

The fundamental difference is that the mainstream media is now portraying the Chinese COVID protestors as glorious freedom fighters standing up for their inalienable human rights, where protesters in the U.S. and Canada were portrayed as terrorists, insurrectionists, and right-wing nazis by the very same mainstream media. Fuckers. I guess the current administration(s) have exhausted the money pit being diverted to Ukraine with respect to public approval, so now time to ratchet up somewhere else to send gobs of taxpayer money so that billions can be funneled back to the DNC via crypto...
  18. Growing up in the mountains in the middle of nowhere, there was no concert scene, and only classical music was permitted to be played in my house, so it wasn't until I left for college in 1984 that I had an opportunity to see any acts... but that first year was a good one. Over that Thanksgiving break I stayed with a guy in Michigan where I got to see Armored Saint and Whitesnake opening for Quiet Riot (RIP Kevin Dubrow). The following summer back in PA I went to what is to date the biggest concert event I've ever attended: Live Aid at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. Physically, the most miserable concert experience ever, as it was almost 100 degrees and I got dehydrated and sunburned like a mofo. That was the first time I ever saw huge video screens (where they played the acts performing at Wembley Stadium in the UK). When I went back to college that fall semester, I saw Y&T opening for Motley Crue on the Theater of Pain tour at Richfield Colisseum in Cleveland. It's both a shame and a good thing that cellphones with cameras didn't exist to capture the events... -Dan
  19. I've never understood all the mainstream hate/meming on Nickelback. It's enjoyable stuff. Is it deep, cutting edge, revolutionary, awe-inspiring, or [insert adjective here]? No. But it's well-produced, well-executed. modern melodic rock.
  20. For anyone in the U.S., Amazon has this for US$11.69 shipped. Great deal! https://smile.amazon.com/Dividing-Lines-Threshold/dp/B0BF5VVFWJ
