this is a great album , probably their best yet

this is probably my favourite song of 2018 so far

That video's not available for me... curious which song it was?

My favourite is this one... huge song with a power within - so good. But like you say, this album is great. Really excellent, and as I listen to it tonight there's a big bunch of songs that get better with every listen.

Not sure what happened to that original video I posted but it was indeed fourteen ,  monster song

Although there are 4 or 5 songs of near enough the same quality as you say

One of my highest played albums this year

Saw these guys today. Couple of odd things. One, I've never seen a rock/metal band play a set without a bass player... but they did, and made no mention of it either. Oddly enough, watching the above video, the bass player was on the stage... but playing a second guitar. And the guitarist in the clip was not with the band today. Not sure if he's departed or something else. Either way, they were a four-piece without a bass guitarist.

Second and very disappointing thing for me what that they didn't play a single song off the latest album. Not even one. :(  The setlist seemed to be 90% 'Fragile Futures' which is a very nice album... but jeezus wept I wanted to hear a bunch of songs from a top 10 finisher for me in 2018. :(

Anyway, had to feel for the guys playing to a room of about 30-40 people. And they played hard too... just without a bass player and songs from the s/t album.

lol, what a dickhead. Just looked at the banners for the tour and it's actually the 'Fragile Futures' Anniversary Tour, lol. Guess that explains it...

Fragile futures was a great album but I think I prefer the newest one

It is great... but for me the new one is definitely their finest moment. Huge album.

This one is absolutely killer too;

Haha... I was just about to re-post this. I know I spent most of 2018 going on about 'Fourteen' but slap my balls if this one hasn't snuck up on me to be pretty much just as good. I absolutely can't get this out of my head. Absolute monster song and I don't know how any self-respecting hard rock can avoid the gigantic "gang vocals" and overall awesomeness. ;)

And not far behind, I see there is now an official video for this awesome song too;

I think in the fullness of time this album will probably creep into my top 5 of 2018... rather than the 10 where it currently sits. I really love every song on it.

This would be my next favourite song after Fourteen I think

But the whole album from start to finish is pretty awesome as you say

Yeah that one's really nice too. As I listened to their discography repeatedly in the lead-up to seeing them live, I must admit I preferred previous balladic numbers from them. I like this song, but on this album I prefer the bigger moments a bit more. ;)

    • Standard Frontiers approach. Take a bunch of demos written by one of their go-to songwriters, polish them up, get a popular name to sing on them and call it an album. Or, even more dishonestly, a "band."
    • OK, but ultimately boring. No wow factor and they played a bunch of songs I didn't know despite being billed as playing the debut. hey ho.
    • Folk, Prog, AORish.... however you wanna categorize them, these are some of the best vocal harmonies I've heard in forever. Lots of comparisons to Crosby, Stills & Nash in the YT comments Figure this should appeal to some here....           “Troika“, combining the immense talents of Nick D’Virgilio (Big Big Train), Neal Morse (Transatlantic) and Ross Jennings (Haken), initially began with Morse writing some acoustic songs he thought would be enhanced by strong vocal harmonies. After reuniting with former Spock’s Beard bandmate Nick D’Virgilio, the duo specifically sought out Jennings to complete the trio (all of whom contributed material to the project). Recorded during lockdown, D’VIRGILIO, MORSE & JENNINGS delivers melodic acoustic-filled anthems, charged rockers and sensitive ballads – all part of the mix – and the unique blend of the three voices and styles have created an album in which you will encounter these musicians in a way you’ve never heard before. Are you a fan of acoustic rock from the ‘70s with a touch of classic rock thrown in? If so, you’re going to absolutely love ”Troika”. This mostly-acoustic rock offering spends the first half bathing you in Crosby, Stills, and Nash-like acoustic pop rock full of fabulous multi-part lead vocal harmonies while the second half throws in some Hendrix meets Styx meets Foreigner classic rock to up the attitude. It’s such a fine record that the masses need to hear, and while the super-group last name approach will work fine for prog rock diehards, it just doesn’t roll off the tongue for the people who will really enjoy this record the most – regular lovers of vocal harmony-rich classic rock. Heck, even calling the band Troika would have been simpler. This is one of those delightful albums that has soothing melodic wonders and ripping, ‘70s-vibe classic rock tunes, and there truly isn’t a weak link in the 12-song collection. If you’re one of those people complaining that they just aren’t making great rock albums like they used to, you’ll want to grab a copy of this CD as soon as it’s released. Highly Recommended   01 – Everything I Am 02 – Julia 03 – You Set My Soul on Fire 04 – One Time Less 05 – Another Trip Around the Sun 06 – A Change Is Gonna Come 07 – If I Could 08 – King for a Day 09 – Second Hand Sons 10 – My Guardian 11 – What You Leave Behind 12 – Julia (Alternative Version) [Bonus Track] Nick D’Virgilio (Big Big Train) – vocals, drums Neal Morse (Transatlantic) vocals, keys, bass, guitars Ross Jennings (Haken) vocals, guitar
    • "Down to the Devil" is quite catchy. Shame this is only available on VINYL and as a digital download as far as I can tell...
    • Sad isn't it. Listened to Sultans last night. That was so good.  This still sounds like 1 endless song with different words. A travesty and a waste.
    • The Needle Lies-Queensryche
    • Yeah such a mark up from them on certain things recently...the Devils Train & Madhouse cds where up in the region too...unreal   it cost £15odd direct from record company...with VAT & postage.
