Press release from Escape Music:

Escape Music is pleased to announce the signing and release date of Culver Kingz!

In 1983, Michael Thompson and Billy Trudel were introduced to each other. They were brought together by manager Steve Brooks and Producer/Engineer, Wyn Davis to form a new band called Slang. They worked hard in the studio and out playing shows to get this new project noticed but nothing seemed to work in their favor. After 2 years of struggling, they started to adventure into other projects. In 1985 Billy signed his first recording contract with The City, a band on Chrysalis Records and Michael was playing guitar with Andy Fraser (Free) When Manager Alan Neven ( Guns & Roses) heard the project. He took it to Geffen Records and the band was signed. But there was a problem, Billy couldn’t sign the contract because of his prior obligations to The City. So Michael had to find another vocalist to record the album.

That’s when he found Moon Calhoun to take Billy’s place. They changed the name of the band to the Michael Thompson Band and released the record in 1987. Since that time both Michael and Billy became well established in they’re music carriers, backing up some of the biggest artist in the music industry. Then in 2011, Michael and Billy re-connected and decided to finish that record they always wanted to make. That was the birth of the Culver Kingz. The band name came from both of them living in Culver City and writing and recording everything in Michaels studio. Now all these years later they are thrilled to come back full circle and do what they do best, Make music.

For the past 30 years, here are just a few artist Michael Thompson, and Billy Trudel have worked with.

Michaels credits are: Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, Ricky Martin, David Foster, Madonna, Michael Bolton, Babyface, En Vogue, Bobby Womack, Quincy Jones, Beyoncé, Stanley Clarke, N Sync, Toni Braxton, Rod Stewart, Vince Neil, The Scorpions, Mariah Carey, Michael McDonald Brian Adams Animal Logic and many more.

What a horrible band name. Sounds like something useful if you need something to put you to sleep. :(

This won't be for everyone, more the AOR / westcoast crowd. But sounds nice to me and one that I'm looking forward to. Agree with G re the project name.

Very nice. Thompson is a top top guitarist and pretty much always associated with quality stuff. Count me in on this from what i've heard so far

    • After releasing two albums with AOR/Melodic Rock band Streets, ”1st” (1983) and ”Crimes In Mind” (1985), lead singer and keyboardist Steve Walsh returned to Kansas, to revive the band along with original members Phil Ehart (drums) and Rich Williams (Guitar). Furthermore, the lineup was completed by the addition of bassist Billy Greer (from Streets) and young, promising, former Dixie Dregs guitar man Steve Morse, who also contributed with composing skills and backing vocals. Eventually, the group’s ”Power” album was released in November of 1986, rather much to the vintage Kansas and Prog Rock purists dismissal, as I recall it. The heavier sound/direction and absence of violinist Robby Steinhardt, songwriter/keyboardist/guitarist Kerry Livgren and bassist Dave Hope were all contributing factors to the disapproval, it seems. However, mentioned ”Power” should perhaps instead be judged on its own merits, as it is what it is. Put out in a time when commercial Melodic Hardrock was very much in fashion, with FM rock radio and MTV as ever the important ingredients of daily life. In the end, the album actually landed at a respectable No. 35 on the Billboard chart, while the single/ballad ”All I Wanted” eventually rose to an even more impressive No. 19. • They have a real knack for writing (and producing!) songs that could be featured in '80s coming of age films and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible. Really putting the retro in retrowave
    • Gonna post this as just recently discovered them, and loving what they do. I know most here wont care due to not being their style or not singing in English, but as a Band Maid fan, this shit is right up my street. They are a South Korean band. Posting two songs. One original and one a cover (Maneskin, a band I dont really care about) which is kinda impressive seeing as the song is in Italian, a language they don't speak ha ha
