Can anyone identify this tune from an episode of Friday Night Lights? The Shazam and SoundHound apps didn't help and there's not enough here for a lyric search.

I gave that a try last night, but websites like this one list the song for that scene as "Rock Candy" by Montrose.

 

I think this may be a case of original music being replaced on the DVD release so they can avoid paying royalties for it. I didn't hear Rock Candy or any of those other songs in the episode.

What season & episode is it?

It's Season 4, Episode 3, "In the Skin of a Lion".

 

I just checked a cap of the original airing of that episode and it does in fact have "Rock Candy" playing in the background of that scene.
