Would never be one to dispute that without it there would be none of the 80's bands I enjoy, but that doesn't mean anything to me. Without video cameras there would be no porn for me to view. That doesn't mean I need to like or enjoy video cameras. ;)

it is like saying "if there were no Elvis there would have never been the Beatles, then without the Beatles there would have never been a KISS (Gene has been on film stating that the Beatles were the reason he wanted to be in music, he wanted to make a heavy metal Beatles) Then without Zepp there would have never been........... Without the slave owners having slaves and bringing the Blues to the south and influenced Elvis in his youth we never would have had Heavy Metal. Someone would have come along and changed something. sounds like a good episode for SLIDERS (you all remember that tv show, right) for them to "slide" to a universe where Elvis never became a singer and stayed a truck driver.

Yep, exactly. And without whoever invented the musical instruments there would have been no music! ;)

Yeah, I think that kind of somes it all up. Like I said before I grew up in the eighties and although I only listen to a little of the 70's scene, the bands of the eighties never would have been influenced without it. We'll be saying the same thing 10/20 years from now. So even if you don't listen to the previous generations you've got to still love and respect it, right?

Respect it? Maybe. I can understand that if you were raised in that era and there was nothing better to listen to, of course you'd have enjoyed it and that would lead, obviously, to always having a place in your heart for it. But if you didn't grow up with it, and by the time you were into music there was already, in my opinion, better stuff around... no sense taking a step back just out of respect for older, in my opinion, inferior, stuff. :)

Love it? Not in my case. ;)

Exactly!

This poll was never about which era of hard rock was better, but which style you prefer. I would be here all day if I had to list the 70's rock tunes that I thought kicked ass. There was a ton of killer hard rock in the 70's without question, but I just happen to prefer 80's hard rock/hair metal.

I could say I like the production more, the guitar licks more, the sleazier lyrics more or that I just enjoy imagining what the Sunset Strip was like back in the day as I spin each disc. It’s a combination of all of those things I guess. I wish I could have live through the 70's just a bit so I could enjoy that era a little more, but I’ll take what I can get. :drink:

Maybe I should'nt have said "love it" but i think it has to be respected(of course only my opinion). As much as I love the late eighties there are bands now producing great metal that out does stuff in the eighties, but this wouldn't be happening without the influence of the eighties on todays metal.

Absolutely ! That's when it all started for me. With rock bands like Boston, Golden Earring, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, etc., etc., etc. Great times !!! :headbanger:
