  1.

Strangely, I got almost the same rating on that three tracks with CureThe Sane, don't shoot shotgun 7.5, run riot 7.25, and excitable 6.

Hysteria was around 82.3%, I think 'Adrenalize' and 'Retro Active' are their highest rated albums for me

I'm gonna have to re-listen to this album over the weekend - 82% looks way too low to me.......I can see it hitting 90% pretty easily.

Isn't 'Run Riot' awesome?? I must admit its been a while since I last spun this disc but I remembered that as being an excellent kick arse rocker??

'Run Riot' is one of my favourite songs on the album :)

  2. There are a few albums that I'd consider to be 'perfect', in that I don't skip any of the tracks, I feel that the songs compliment each other, I have to play the album from start to finish, etc.

    Queensryche: Operation: Mindcrime

    Marillion: Misplaced Childhood

    Def Leppard: Hysteria

Iron Maiden: Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son

Fish: Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors

  3. If we're talking about songs that get played more than any other by a particular band/artist, then I'd go with:

Bon Jovi: Livin' On A Prayer (yes, it's a cracking song, but there ARE other songs by Jon and the boys that the local radio station could go for when they want to 'rock out' :()

Bryan Adams: Summer Of '69 (see above)

Don Henley: The Boys Of Summer ('Building The Perfect Beast' is a great album ... do they ever play 'Sunset Grill'? No.)

Guns n' Roses: Sweet Child o' Mine (and it's ALWAYS the edited version!)

Extreme: More Than Bloody Words (I hate this song with a passion)

Apart from Don Henley, all of these bands/artists have had other 'hits' here in the UK ... although I do understand that local radio needs to be playing songs that the sheeple are familiar with ... *sigh* ...

If we're talking about songs that stand head and shoulders above anything else on the parent album, then Blue Oyster Cult's '(Don't Fear) The Reaper' has got to be an obvious choice - there are two other good songs on 'Agents Of Fortune', but nothing that comes close to '... Reaper' for sheer majesty ...

  4. 1994: Please Stand By

    Bad Company: Desolation Angels

    Blackfoot: Strikes

    The Police: Regatta de Blanc

    Rainbow: Down To Earth

    Saga: Images At Twilight

    Scorpions: Lovedrive

Fish: Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors

Warrior Soul: Last Decade Dead Century

    The Outfield: Bangin'

    Van Halen: Fair Warning

... cutting down a list of favourites to just ten albums is going to be tricky ...

Aerosmith: Young Lust - The Aerosmith Anthology

The Cranberries: No Need To Argue (The Complete Sessions 1994-1995)

Pink Floyd: A Momentary Lapse Of Reason

Devilment: The Great And Secret Show

  7. I've always had a passing interest in N.W.A. and Public Enemy ... I won't go to see this, but no doubt I'll catch up with it on DVD.

My youngest son was singing 'Straight Outta Compton' the other day, and was EXTREMELY surprised to discover that I knew who N.W.A. were ... so much for everything I listen to being, in his words, 'boring' - :)

    Meh ...

Wow, ouch. Wouldn't it have been better to just stop listening to music all together? ;)

I'd be offended if you weren't right ;)

Like I said in another post, the early/mid 90s were a bit lean for me ... come to think of it, the 90s as a whole were a bit of a non-event, musically ... :(

Jumping to conclusions here, mate! Actually, I used to hold the same opinion back then, when I thought I knew everything 'bout heavy metal (I was still a newbie in AOR/Melodic Rock). Not anymore in the digital age! Tones of musical airwaves waiting patiently unearthed to reach these ears! :headbanger:

Yeah, I know what you mean. There are plenty of albums out there that are on my 'need to hear/get hold of list', since they completely passed me by at the time of release ... God help me, I've even started looking at some of the bands that Geoff has recommended :)

I think I said it in another of these mid 90's threads, and I agree they were lean years, but you guys are kidding yourself if you think there was nothing good still going on in these years. My list above in this thread isn't amazing, but compared to stuff in that list, it's like a lit of gold nuggets.

I'm not saying that there wasn't some good music being released in the 90s. Sadly, opportunity and funds were both scarce at the time (not that I'm rolling in cash now, y'understand), so I missed a LOT of albums (some of which now cost a small bloody fortune!) Out of my list, there are probably ten (or even less) albums that get played regularly - the rest are in there to make up the numbers simply because I'm familiar with them.

    :(

  10. Jon Bon Jovi: Destination Anywhere

    Catherine Wheel: Adam And Eve

    D.A.D.: Simpatico

Del Amitri: Some Other Sucker’s Parade

Star Industry: Iron Dust Crush/New Millennium EP

    Threshold: Extinct Instinct

  11. Interesting.

The S/T is the ONLY LA Guns release for me. Something about that vibe and they are so GREASY. :)

Cocked And Loaded had a handful of acceptable songs and then throughout the years a whole mess of onesy twosey's for acceptable tunes. Could probably make an album of the "good" songs and keep the catalog to 2, maybe 3 releases...

What he said ... the debut is a killer album ... :)
