Top prog artists IMO are Rush, Pink Floyd, Kansas and Supertramp.....

If there was a prog metal category then Rush is a shoe in....that is the problem with rock, hard rock and metal, their are so many categories and sub-categories that you can put bands into and then there is the fact that many bands crossover between genres making almost impossible to put just 4 bands into a single category.....

True enough....I was thinking more along the lines of bands I like rather than the most successful bands...

No one...just giving Darkstone a fourth....although if I was booting out one of your 4 it would be REO....

Count me in as a big fan of Foreigner and that Shadow King release is as good as any Foreigner release and the first 2 Lou Gramm releases are must have AOR and close to the Foreigner stuff but Moonlight and Can't Slow Down are sad echoes of a great band IMO....

Unlike yourself, my dislike for their 'new' music goes back to 96, my admiration for the band's music died after Retro Active from 93 and this release is actually one of their best since 93 which is still not saying much....

I think they are all now past their 'best before date'......

Nope....they were from well before my time but I recognize their influence on the bands that came after and while I do not care for their music I will not crap on them for being old and out of touch musically when I started listening to rock....

I'll add 4 more.... Rush, Deep Purple, BTO and April Wine rounding out the top 8 bands that I grew up listening to and they all had incredible songs/releases but I get that those who grew up after the 70s listening to different bands would disagree.....that does not change the fact that those bands had huge influence on our music today and they should be recognized for that....

The vast majority of bands we listen to today on this site have been influenced by Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, AC/DC etc... so shitting on them doesn't make much sense to me but I get that they are not popular with people born after 1990...

Highway To Hell would be my fav probably off my fav release by the band....

Everyone has a right to their opinions but Karpet is right that they have a platform that most people do not have and many of them do not hesitate to use that platform to push their idiotic views which is irritating. But I really don't give a shit what these people have to say as their opinions are no more valid than my own. I have always judged music, film and sports on their own merits and nothing said by those involved will ever change my feelings as long as they are not promoting hate and violence.....
