Depending on when you last did rate comparisons, you may want to check again. With the FedEx Ground and UPS Ground rate increases and fuel surcharges over the last year or two, they are not always cheaper than USPS anymore, and it really depends on the size and weight of the parcel. This week I just had to send a projector in for warranty service. The package was 29 x 23 x 14 and weighed 28 pounds, insured for $1000. It was going from Illinois to California. UPS Ground was $61.54. FedEx Ground was $54.29 USPS Parcel Post with Signature Confirmation and full Insurance was $43.00. Surprised the heck out of me.

Ty, I understand your frustration, and this isn't meant to start shit, but... I have to ask, in all honesty: Why haven't you been getting delivery confirmation for everything all along? I have not sent a parcel to anywhere in the U.S. without delivery confirmation in almost 10 years. Even for sales of only $4-5. If you are printing your USPS labels through PayPal, which you SHOULD be doing, delivery confirmation only costs $0.19 for 1st Class packages, and is FREE for Priority Mail packages. It's been that way for years. Beats the piss out of USPS counter rates. Sending a package for eBay goods without DC is like putting a big red tag on the package that tells an eBay buyer "THE SELLER IS AN IDIOT AND YOU CAN GET YOUR STUFF FOR FREE!!!!" It's a license to steal, and buyers know it. It's not only the chargeback hassle, but it also puts your feedback rating, seller fees, and search placement standings at risk, now that those things all depend on 1s and 2s in star ratings and opened PayPal disputes. It just ain't worth it to save a few cents. Anyone doing business through PayPal and still paying regular USPS rates for delivery and signature confirmation is getting the rubber glove treatment from the USPS. Not to mention that since everything is generated from the PayPal payment information automatically, it's a shitload faster than filling out the DC forms by hand, and the buyer automatically gets a shipping notification email with the DC number when the label is printed. No more having to let buyers know that packages have shipped; PayPal does it for you and it's automatically updated in both the buyer and seller's eBay account. Heck, I even use PayPal shipping labels when a buyer pays by check or money order, it's that convenient. -Dan P.S. You should NOT be sending CDs by Priority Mail. No wonder you're losing yer butt on shipping costs. CDs and DVDs: Send by 1st class rate up to 7 ounces in weight and Media Mail for above 7 ounces. I've been doing it for $2.99 per shipment for several years and I'm covering my costs (including packing materials and insurance) just fine...

Ahh grasshopper, if you notice, I never said it was mentioned in THIS thread... or whether or not it was a thread that I personally participated in. Keep huntin'. When I do reveal it, I will post a couple of high-rez full tracks to justify my opinion.

It's a solid idea, but it doesn't take into consideration each individual person's financial state. I would think that for someone making six figures, $50 or $100 once a year is nothing, but for someone making $20K-40K, that might be a bit out of reach; $10-20 is probably more in line with reasonable. Apparently there aren't many affluent people using Heavy Harmonies. I guess I need to tap into the symphony-going classical music crowd. -Dan

Yikes. I wouldn't know where to start. First of all, the message board and the main site are two separate systems, and there are people that use one but not the other. More importantly, the main site does not require anyone to create an account in order to use it, which is a deliberate decision, so I have no idea. Like everything else on the internet, less than 5% of the usership actually contributes. There's a mistaken notion that everything on the Internet is free: "Since nothing on the Internet costs anyone anything to make it, why should I donate?" Not exactly. Comin' down the home stretch with 2 weeks left to go in the donation drive. Donations have fallen off a bit, to be expected. Total donations thus far amount to $635, which will cover just short of 3 months of operating costs. Meh. Overall does nothing for me and I loved Sound of Madness. The chorus is solid enough, but the background annoying guitar lick and the whole boom-lay-boom crap just ruin it for me. -Dan

Metal Mind Productions presents the complete discography of one of the best and most influential prog-metal bands of the 80’s – Crimson Glory. Crimson Glory’s origin reaches the 80’s, when the band emerged with a dazzling combination of early Queensryche style, fascinating guitar melodies and distinctive, emotive vocals. The line-up, consisting of Ben Jackson (guitars), Jon Drenning (guitars), Jeff Lords (bass), Dana Burnell (drums) and Midnight (vocals) recorded two albums – Crimson Glory and Transcendence, both bringing the band a large number of devoted fans. The unique musical mixture, followed by a characteristic image (all band members wore silver masks) marked the beginning of a prog metal legend. But the band did not wish to be captivated in only one musical style. With their third album, Crimson Glory reached far beyond simple power metal musicianship, replacing it with complex, precise songwriting, controversial both in sound and structure. Strange and Beautiful turned out as an epic musical experience, filled with elements borrowed from prog metal, as well as blues and hard rock. For some fans the band explored far too commercial regions, but others greeted Crimson Glory’s evolution enthusiastically. Unfortunately, after the release of their third LP the group stepped down from the scene for six years. It wasn’t until 1997, when Jon Drenning and Jeff Lords decided to reunite Crimson Glory. Ben Jackson’s return was a great start to the process; however it was soon clear that this trio will be the only remaining members of the original line-up, as vocalist Midnight was at that time not interested in recording a new album. Drenning, Lords and Jackson had a tough decision on whom to set as a replacement for the charismatic singer. The final choice was Wade Black, whose vocals sounded much more powerful and aggressive, brining a totally new quality to Crimson Glory’s music. After adjoining ex-Savatage drummer Steve Wacholz the band was ready for a definite comeback. In 1999 Astronomica saw daylight. The album proved the band’s great form, being both a nod to the past as well as updated for the present, retaining some of the classic guitar harmonies with a slightly more dynamic approach. Although soon after its release Black left the band to front Seven Witches and Leash Law, Crimson Glory did not cease to exist. On May 2010 the band announced that a new singer, Todd La Torre, had joined the band. La Torre made his first (and as yet only) public appearance with Crimson Glory at ProgPower USA X as one of seventeen guest performers paying tribute to Midnight, the band's original singer who passed away in 2009 The band is currently working on their new material. Update at the half way point in the donation drive: A bit over $500 has been donated thus far, enough to cover a bit over 2 months of expenses. This puts us a bit behind last year's pace, but I sorta expected that. To those who have donated so far, THANK YOU! Ex HAREM SCAREM singer Harry Hess returns with FIRST SIGNAL paying tribute to his former band classic sound! I'm actually shocked that no one has guessed it, given how much I love the CD. Furthermore, given its style, I would think it's one that folks here would be raving about. Maybe not enough people have given it enough spins for it to grow on them. In my case, no growing time was necessary; it kicked me in the balls from song 1 and only gets better with replays. I don't want influence the contest, but people need to think outside the above-mentioned few CDs... -Dan
