Yeah, an odd one this....everything about this release cries out that I should love it....big hooky choruses, seriously brilliant shredding guitar solos, great vocals.....but something just isnt clicking. Why oh why do some bands insist on making what should be an excellent 4 min track a yawn inducing 6 mins + ????!

 

A classic example of this is the song 'Last Tear Drop Falls'....really love this one...nice chorus, excellent guitar solo....gets to 4 mins, the song should just end....everyone's happy. What happens?.... it drags on for another 2 mins 15 secs just repeating the chorus!

 

Shame really cos this has the potential to one of the best melodic rock releases this year

Yep, first thing that turned me off this was the song lengths. I too do not understand it. I don't know if there's even a song length shorter than 6mins on this thing, is there?

 

Second thing is that this CD has been recorded several times already. Of course I kid, but what I mean is that although this is the best of the lot, this still just sounds like a new Forever album, or a new S.I.N CD. With such distinct vocals it will never matter who is around this guy - for all I know it is still the same line-up as Forever, from back in 1995. And it's the same story for each CD. All of them are pretty good, solid CDs but all have something missing too. I'm not crazy about the vocals, which I think is the major factor for me. As I said, this is the best CD this guy's released, but this won't be any sort of contender for me this year.

I haven't heard this one yet, but the Balance Of Power and Pride debuts are fantastic IMO.

Yeah, Pride were one of my favourite bands from recent years. Put the vocalist from that band in Faithhealer (Where on earth did that guy end up? Great voice), chop 2-3 mins off all the songs and then you have something sexy on your hands.

 

BTW, when I refer to "this guy" I refer to the vocalist. The guy from Forever / S.I.N.
