A fairly odd choice for the next song to share IMO.  It's okay but for me personally, Twist Of Fate is probably my least favorite song on the album.  I believe it's an Oliva Newton John cover song.  I will say it's way better than the original lol.

Just think there is far better stuff on the album.....maybe something like Streets of Babylon or Cry for example.

    Really good.

Have heard a handful of songs from this album and one thing that sort of has stuck out to me is that this has more "balls" than I was expecting.  For some reason, I think my initial impression of these guys was that they were going to be more AOR-Lite-ish.....And that's clearly not the case.

Fully expecting a great release with this one.

yeah Ghosts is a pretty depressing song really when you read the lyrics. I wonder what inspired that song and who in the band it relates to ??

I saw something that said Rob Wylde wrote the song about him.  Apparently he moved to the US for awhile at one point and then went back to the UK after a number of years and everything had changed.  He said that was the inspiration for the song.

Great tune.  Probably my favorite song on the album.

I cancelled my amazon order when they put the date back and ordered direct from AORHeaven,it still took 2 weeks to get here but it works out just as cheap if I order more than 1 from them because the postage is the same for 1-4 discs(I got Code Red as well) really enjoying both...Romeo Riot & Wildness next from them B)

Had done the same thing.  Originally ordered Midnite City through Amazon but switched to AOR Heaven when they announced they were in stock and would ship out early.  I had mine a week before it was released.  Hoping they do something similar with Wildness as I'm planning to pre-order that one at AOR Heaven as soon as links become available.

I do like Romeo Riot well enough but it won't be a top 5 album for me this year.  However, still feeling like Midnite City is battling for my favorite this year along with H.e.a.t and Crazy Lixx.

  5. Got this today and have to agree...really good album.  A few times through and I dare say this is my favorite Kivel release.

It's super melodic, production sounds crispy clear, great vocals/harmonies and guitar work also stands out to me.

Room to Run has grown more on me and also really like Streets of Babylon, Sing It loud, Cry, Same...Also two ballads are really well done.

It's sort of like Tango Down meets Far Cry but honestly, feels better than either of those to me.

    Great stuff.

  6. I did get a bit of the samey feel the first couple time through this so can understand that comment.  That said though, I've felt that less the more I've listened and the songs have sort of separated themselves for me.

Agree it's not really groundbreaking and the songs aren't that complex.  It is pretty simple but it's simple done well IMO.

The whole thing just hits a sweet spot for me I guess and while it's not groundbreaking, it still feels different than most of all the other stuff I've listened to this year.

For a debut album that probably had a very limited budget, it's all that more impressive IMO.

Has arrived!!!  First spin through, really good album!

Haven't gotten mine yet....Should have it any day.

I'm not sure if I'll like it or not....Basically just took a flier on it.  I liked the first song Room To Run and the sneak peek trailer seemed to hold some promise.

I wished I could've heard another couple songs in full before buying to really make up my mind but everyone I've seen with the album has had good things to say.  And the trailer sounded okay.

    We'll see...optimistic.

It's not growing on me. It's a solid album, but it's just a good album... nothing more nothing less.

    Let's do this quickly;

1     -     Bastard of Society ; it's a pretty good opener. Good hard rock, but nothing any 2-bit hard rock band couldn't pull off just as easily. Nothing special... not what you hope and expect from melodic rock giants.

2     -     Redefined ; great song - love the vocals, love how it builds. For me it's the best song here. Best melodies by a long way.

3     -     Shit City ; I don't listen to this anymore. Shit city, or shit song? I believe it's the latter. We don't need throwaway rubbish like this from a supposedly melodic (hard) rock band. Very poor tune.

4     -     Time on our side ; not as good as 'Redefined' but good for all the same reasons 'Redefined' is. Builds greats... another really good melodic rock song. Class.

5     -     Best of the Broken ; like the opener, it's okay but such run of the mill hard rock. What band can't do this? Why do HEAT need to be giving us average hard rock when we turn to them for something better? Doesn't do it for me.

6     -     Eye of the Storm ; good ballad. It's nothing amazing, but it's a good HEAT song. It's the kind of stuff I wish for from HEAT and whilst it's not completely nailed, it's one of the better songs here for sure.

7     -     Blind leads the blind ; I hate the 'mannequin' sound effects lifted from the last album - so irritating. But riff-wise, this is the only of the harder rockers that resembles anywhere near the quality we expect from HEAT when they get a bit ballsier. Killer riff and a good song... shame they didn't try more like this. Pre-chorus is still dodgy, but it's as good as this album gets in terms of hard rock.

8     -     We Rule ; can't for the life of me think of how this song goes, lol. Not a good sign. I've rated it as 7.5 meaning it must be decent, but having heard the album many many times, cannot for the life of my think how it goes. Must be great... haha.

9     -     Do you Want it ; more shitty 'mannequin' sounds, awful vocal passages and honestly, just a pretty annoying song. It's clinging onto keeper-hood, but everything decent about it is reversed by the annoying parts. The sound effects, the whistling, that high pitched pre-chorus... it just undoes anything that would make this song okay.

10     -     Into the great Unknown ; nice closer. Nothing special... just an okay song. Underwhelming end to what is overall a rather underwhelming album.

Like I said, it's not bad. But this is one of the best bands of the music we listen to, and this is not an album that showcases this. I'd like them to drop the average hard rock direction and shitty irritating sounds they picked up from the 'mannequin' song on the last album and just go back to a more pure, delicious form of melodic rock. 'Address The Nation' showed they can and should be about the best band "our genre" has, and adding some balls with 'Tearing down the walls' was nice, when it was done well. But average hard rock is something any and every band can offer up these days... we don't need it from HEAT.

My thoughts are almost opposite on every song lol.

I don't care much for Redefined, Time On Our Side.....They're okay but neither does much for me and find them pretty boring.  They're both about the same as We Rule for me....Songs that I view as okay for variety but not songs I find myself really getting into much at all.  I guess I can appreciate what they were trying to do with these songs though in terms of just creating something different.

I love Bastard, BLTB, Best Of The Broken...Great stuff and wish there were a couple more up tempo songs like these on the album.

Shit City....Agree the lyrics/subject matter is pretty bland.  I find the song to be pretty catchy though.  It's sort of the same thing with Do You Want it....Definitely not a great song lyrically but still catchy and full of hooks.

Eye of The Storm...Like that one a lot....great ballad.

I like the title track a lot too....good closer and while I usually don't care for instrumental interludes, it works well in this song for me.

I guess I don't mind most of the modern effects scattered in the songs either....don't even really notice them.

I do agree that the last two albums were better.  However, I really don't feel like this album is fundamentally all that different in their approach. For me, there was a lot of variety in song styles within the past couple albums and they've just done the same thing again.  I think maybe this album has a little bit more variety is all which has struck a nerve with some.

For me, still a pretty decent effort even though I clearly liked ATN and TDTW better.

  9. I was going to do a track by track breakdown of this but frankly, don't think I need to.  For me, every song is in the 9 to 10 range.

The "10" songs for me are We Belong, Ghosts Of My Old Friends, Summer Of Our Lives and the ballad Everything You Meant To Me.  I'm not a big ballad guy generally but this one is right there with If It's Love by Crazy Lixx and Eye of the Storm from H.e.a.t as my favorite ballads this year.

The rest of the songs are all solid too though.  I'd probably give Can't Wait For The Nights and Think About you a solid 9.5.  While Nothings Like Losing You and I Just Can't Take It wouldn't be far behind.  I'd guess the rest would all be around 9 as there just isn't a single song I don't like so no real need to go through them.

I've been debating this album versus Crazy Lixx versus H.e.a.t as my favorite this year and the more I've listened to this, the more I feel like it's my favorite album this year just because there isn't a low spot on it for me.  Crazy Lixx has one or two songs I'm lukewarm on (Another Shot Of Love, Kiss Of Judas)....H.e.a.t has one or two I'm lukewarm on (Time On Our Side, We Rule)....But this doesn't have anything I'm lukewarm on.

Great songs, full of hooks and cool throwback vibe.

  10. Was close to ordering but I never ordered this....Waiting to hear some thoughts though.

I kind of like the first song but still sort of one the fence.  I just want to hear another couple songs before buying this one.

Went back and listened to ''Summer of our Lives'' but wasn't overly impressed, any better songs from them?

Or would you consider this one of their good/better songs? In which case, this might not be for me

There's a couple songs I like better but whole album is pretty much in that style and would say that song is a fair representation.  If you don't like that one I'd say hold off until you can sample more songs.

I like Summer of our lives...catchy tune IMO :)

    WTF!

    :)

Ordered direct from AOR heaven as they said they'd ship preorders early.  Pretty nice getting it a week in advance.

Wish more releases would do this as standard procedure.  Nice way to reward people that are willing to preorder.

  13. Got my CD today....absolutely great IMO.  Awesome that they sent out preorders a little early.

Whole album follows the vibe of the songs we've heard....throwback 80's melodic rock.

Only been through it a couple times so far so not too much to say yet....But this will definitely rank very high on my best of 2017 list.

Link to above podcast played 3 Wildness songs.

War Inside My Head played right at the start of the podcast.  Then go to the 2:22 mark for Down In The City followed by Welcome The Night.

Digging what I've heard....These songs combined with others we're heard like Alibi, Collide and Turning The Pages are adding up to a solid release IMO and now I'm getting excited about this one.

Midnite City followed by this release will make for a nice ending to this fantastic year.

Absolutely stoked about this release and still feel like it has a shot to be my favorite album this year from what I've heard.  Just fantastic throwback "Defiants style" melodic rock that is likely to sort of fly under the radar being a new band and not getting as much publicity and promotion as some other releases this year.

  17. I'm with you guys....I'm expecting that this album could push for my top spot this year based upon the 4-5 songs I've heard.  Absolutely love what I've heard so far.

Just great Defiants-style throwback melodic rock IMO.

Not sure why there is so much criticism around this album , I think it's great and definitely better than TDTW

The only song I really am not keen on is We Rule and perhaps time on our side which is OK I guess

Best of the Broken is probably my favourite , followed by Shit city , Bastard of society and Into the Great Unknown which is a great closer to the album

    Really good stuff

Love it too and will be my #1 album this year.    I wouldn't put it ahead of TDTW but do still like it a lot.  For me, TDTW was great and tough to top.  I also liked ATN a lot too.

My preference of songs would be:

    Bastard of Society

    Blind Leads the Blind

    Best Of The Broken

    Eye Of The Storm

    Into The Great Unknown

    Shit City

    FYI Miley (Japan Bonus)

    Do You Want It

    Redefined

    Time On Our Side

    We Rule

I do like every song though and isn't like the bottom songs on my list are skips or something.  They offer good variety but I just find myself getting into the up tempo songs a little more.  I do really like Eye Of The Storm though....great ballad.  The title track is pretty epic and is almost like H.e.a.t's version of Def Leppard's Rocket.  I also like the Japan bonus song even though it's a pretty straight forward, simple rocker.  I know many like Redefined a lot but it just doesn't do too much for me and I find it fairly boring until the middle of the song when it starts to gain some steam.  Time On Our Side has grown on me some as I hated it at first but don't mind it now.  We Rule is a song I can sort of take or leave...It's okay for something different and could work well live IMO.

I just like these guys a lot so probably a little bias.  They could sing nursery rhymes and they'd sound good to me.
