  1. Yeah, I know it's been posted here before and I would have bumped the original thread, but the video isn't embedded and the linked one is lower quality.

A few people mentioned this recently in the "Song of the Day" thread, so it's worth a repost. This is a great song - probably my favorite of '08. The video is nothing elaborate, but I'm sure Tesla didn't have a large budget for this.

  2. My fondest memory of the Jazz is from the '90s. They were playing my Pistons. Jerry Sloan and Dennis Rodman were having words all game. Rodman made a free-throw, turned and pointed at Sloan to taunt him. Sloan responded by blowing him a kiss. Rodman tried to apologize after the game with a handshake, and Sloan replied with "I thought Pistons didn't like to shake hands" (a clear reference to the ECF a year before). You can get away with being cocky when you're as good a coach as he was.

I'll never forget Karl Malone's elbow to Isiah Thomas' head in the previous game either, but that's not a memory I define as "fond".

  3. I don't know if you can get more "under the radar" than DC Drive. I doubt anyone outside of Michigan has heard of them. Great CD from 1993.

Yeah, I downloaded the album from the Motor City Rock website, but the sound quality isn't so great. Very groovy stuff. I need to track down a copy.

I got an original CD here that I bought in Detroit area when it came out - long out of print. Just send a PM.

  4. Favorite CD: Winger - Pull. The only track I skip is "Like a Ritual". They could have skipped that in favor of "Hell to Pay" which was the bonus track on the Japan release. That one rocks. "Like a Ritual"? Not so much.

I like 'Like a ritual' but I could do without 'Who's the One' on an otherwise near perfect CD. Like you say, the inclusion of 'Hell to pay' would make the album near invincible.

It definitely seems out of place along with the others, but I like acoustic stuff. Some of the best being Harem Scarem's "Something to Say" and the acoustic version of "Slowly Slipping Away". Kingdom Come's unplugged CD is pretty good too, especially "You're Not the Only".

I'll throw out a couple more... Prior to "Back to the Rhythm" (good CD, but not killer), Great White could do no wrong as far as I was concerned. But, I'd always skip "She Only" (even for being acoustic) from "...Twice Shy" and "I Want You" from "Psycho City". I never liked those.

Oh dear, I absolutely love 'She Only.' :(

Me too! One of my top 3 or 4 GW songs.

Wow. Guess I might be in the minority on that one.

And although I really liked "Baby's On Fire", I have to skip that one too. It just sounds tasteless and inappropriate now.

  6. I'm in a drought and need some new stuff. Dusted off, "Pull" by Winger tonight after years of neglect and was reminded of why I picked it my favorite CD here. That whole CD rocks. "Blind Revolution Mad" cranked up while I type. :headbanger:

Just discovered State of Shock's 2011 CD, so "Have a Nice Day" would be my latest Killer Tune, but I need more to sample on Spotify. I'll check out what you and Geoff posted tomorrow. Thanks.

  7. From '87 to '96 I went wherever Great White was. I didn't care much the venue. I started in '87 at Harpo's in Detroit. It was an all-ages show, so I could still get in at 17. They were touring after the release of "Once Bitten" which hadn't done much on the radio yet. The did mostly tunes from "Shot in the Dark" and their self titled album. I also saw Molly Hatchet there in 1990 just before Danny Joe Brown left the band. Was right in front of the sage for both of those shows. Cool. Harpo's is still around, but the band better be damn good for me to go to that part of Detroit ever again.

Once they became popular, I'd stand in line to get front row at Pine Knob, in Clarkston (now DTE Music Theater), and The Palace of Auburn Hills (still there). I also saw the bands they'd tour with like Tesla, Warrant, and Ratt.

The last time I saw them was at the The Palladium in Roseville MI (now a K-Mart), again in front of the stage, while they were touring for "Sailed Away". That was the first time I heard my favorite GW tune "Hey Mister", which they hadn't yet released. I moved the north end of the state and we haven't crossed paths since.

It's all kinda spooky. If I'd lived in Rhode Island, I wouldn't be here to type this.

  8. Love that first track. Easily worth the $1.19 at Amazon.

The only Mayday Parade in my collection is "I Swear This Time I Mean It". I didn't care for the rest of that CD, and didn't know the band's history. I'll definitely check out A Lesson in Romantics.

By the way... Can we stop this tired trend of making album covers look like old vinyl LP covers (Steel Panther, Hinder, Jack's Mannequin, Parachute... to name a recent few)?

  9. Oh dear, this is a really, really weak song of a really, really good disc.

I disagree, but it is better than Hinder's "Is it just Me". ;)

If you like this, get 'Rock N' Roll Romance' and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Because there are a lot of really great songs on this disc. Here's a few songs that represent how good that album actually is:

I'd listened to the whole thing without knowing that they'd released any singles. "Have a Nice Day" ended up being my favorite and I was pleasantly surprised to find the video for it.

Agreed though, the rest of the CD is pretty good.

  10. They call themselves a cross between AC/DC and Alabama, but there's a hint of Molly Hatchet or Lynyrd Skynyrd in there too. If you like southern rock, you might enjoy this. If you also like country, you most likely will. Looking foward to their new CD, "Twenty12" in December.

  11. Looks like Grey was trapped in the modern rock circle, and haven't touch anything MHR/AOR these years ? I spotted a slightly weaker year compared to 2010-2011, but hell it's been a great year so far, but 2013 could top it off though

I've never really been an AOR fan, preferring mostly Hard Rock. I looked forward to, and sampled quite a few like Great White, Hardline, Tyketto, Europe, Koritni and Van Halen, but none of them really caught my attention and didn't sound much like their older stuff that I enjoy. There's nothing else on my radar other the new Trans-Siberian Orchestra EP later this month and a new Krokus CD in January that I'm really looking forward to. But, I'm always browsing these forums for anything I might have missed.

You should check out The Classic Crime's latest release, "Phoenix." Assuming you haven't already.

Never heard of it, but got it playing on Spotify right now.
