  1. No doubt you miss some good stuff when it comes out. Much of what we like around here isn't mainstream and you might not find out about it until it's a few years old. I find most of what I like through recommendations here, but not every release gets a topic, or sometimes it gets missed. By the time you find it, it's not worth a new topic.

I just discovered Shakra's 2009 album "Everest" after hearing "Anybody Out There" on Last.fm and I'm loving it. If it were new, it would easily be my favorite release of '11. I just checked HH's "best of" list for '09 and it only made it as an "also ran". That's probably why I never listened sooner.

    Find any older gems recently?

  2. Yeah, too many to mention, to be honest. Tom Kiefer when he's screaming

I can handle Keifer and most anyone else when they're singing heavier songs, but guys like him, Axl Rose, Mark Slaugher and C.J. Snare really have no business singing ballads. They just don't have the right voice for it.

Couldnt disagree more. Some of my fave songs by those guys are the ballads, and some of those ballads are among my fave songs ever.

Some of my favorite songs too. I just don't think they have the right voice for it. Like the thread title says, I shouldn't like it, but I do anyway.

  3. It's a couple of years old, but the band is still giving away their debut album as a free download.

They have sort of a Hard Rock/Punk sound to them. It's a pretty decent album. If nothing else, I think it's worth it for the song "Americanarama".

I took notice after hearing it last night in the movie, "The Trotsky".

  4. None of these older CDs need to be remastered. Mastering and Remastering by today's standards only means compressing (destroying) the dynamic range to make the softer sounds in the recording sound as loud as the highest peaks. Then the overall sound is raised often beyond limitations, causing clipping and distortion, only to make it sound "loud".

    Here's an excellent demo:

I'd go on a longer rant, but Leykis101 pretty much summed it up earlier in this thread.

  5. I've been a fan since The Nature of the Beast, and have their whole collection. I prefer the newer stuff with "Frigate" an easy choice for my favorite. "Look Into the Sun" and "Driving With My Eyes Closed" are great tunes.

  6. This is on Gallery and no other CD as far as I know. It's a great song and one of their best for sure.

Right. I've got the whole GW collection including imports. It's not on "Twice Shy + Live at the Marquee" as someone else had mentioned.

Interestingly, it was the "Gallery" CD that that reported bassist Tony Montana's death in the cd booklet despite him being alive and well.

  7. I spent a good part of my Friday afternoon searching and couldn't find anything more than those 7. A good chunk of time was spent trying to find someplace to buy their '07 EP "Love Will Break Your Heart", but I couldn't find it for sale anywhere. I ended up buying used copies of the "Hills Have Eyes 2" and "Balls of Fury" soundtracks, but that only got me 3 of the 4 songs on it (missing "Dawn of the Dead"). Their 3 other songs appear to be available only on their Soundcloud and Facebook pages.

  8. I'd never heard of them till I saw this thread. Gave both CDs a good listen, and I'm surprisingly impressed. That might not be the case if I understood the lyrics and knew that they were actually singing about things like hiccups, homework, and backyards, but ignorance is bliss. The music rocks. :headbanger:
