  1. Looks like Grey was trapped in the modern rock circle, and haven't touch anything MHR/AOR these years ? I spotted a slightly weaker year compared to 2010-2011, but hell it's been a great year so far, but 2013 could top it off though

I've never really been an AOR fan, preferring mostly Hard Rock. I looked forward to, and sampled quite a few like Great White, Hardline, Tyketto, Europe, Koritni and Van Halen, but none of them really caught my attention and didn't sound much like their older stuff that I enjoy. There's nothing else on my radar other the new Trans-Siberian Orchestra EP later this month and a new Krokus CD in January that I'm really looking forward to. But, I'm always browsing these forums for anything I might have missed.

  2. 2012 has been rather disappointing for me as far as stuff that was released this year. Most everything I looked forward to ended up being a dud. In most cases I liked only a song or two from the CDs I've sampled with the only exception being Halestorm's "The Strange Case of...". I found a lot of good older stuff though. The best album I've heard for the first time this year is easily Cardinal Trait's "You Already Know", but that's from 2004.

The best I can do is rank my favorite songs of 2012 so far.

    01. Otherwise - I Don't Apologize

    02. Halestorm - Here's to Us

    03. Red Wanting Blue - White Snow

    04. Saving Abel - Me and You

    05. Anchored - Throwing Down

    06. Kip Moore - Beer Money

    07. Halestorm - Private Parts

    08. 12 Stones - Bury Me

    09. Scars on 45 - Heart on Fire

    10. Scarlet Haze - Hero

    11. Halestorm - Beautiful With You

    12. Love and Theft - Angel Eyes

    13. Red Wanting Blue - Stay on the Bright Side

    14. Muse - Panic Station

    15. Halestorm - In Your Room

    16. Otherwise - Heaven

    17. Halestorm - Hate it When You See Me Cry

    18. Anchored - Last Night

    19. Halestorm - Break In

    20. Halestorm - I Miss the Misery

    21. Three Days Grace - Chalk Outline

  3. Haha... it is rough, but definitely an album of 2 halves. I have spun it a few times now and the first half it utter garbage... but all 5 of the last 5 songs have a little bit of worth. I don't mind 'em... but it's still a massive step back. I wonder if I'm the only one who liked 'Can't keep a secret?' I really like that disc.

I love "You and I Tonight". The rest I don't much listen to anymore.

  4. Wow. I thought you guys were being a bit harsh until I decided to give it a listen myself. Sounds like they trying to fill the void left by bands like NKOTB, Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. Someone needs to tell them it's not 1999 anymore.

I enjoy the occasional Pop CD as long as it's done right (Hot Chelle Rae, for example). This one is all wrong.

  5. Now the extremely obnoxiously catchy We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together has been implanted in my brain like a demon seed, it will for the next week at least plague me, night and day, over and fucking over, I fucking hate her, I just ordered her cd.

You're not kidding. I can't get that tune outta my head either. I also had the misfortune of seeing the video. What's with the furries?

  6. I didn't realise they were offering the debut as well. Is that a hard copy they're offering, or MP3's? I have the CD anyway, but I'm curious.

    The debut is mp3, 192kbps. Damnation is mp3, 320kbps.

They're selling hard copies of the debut CD for $16.17 (converting NZD to USD), including shipping.

  7. I know my hands down favorite Shakra song is by far the song, Done Me Wrong, in my book it doesn't get any better then that jam!!

Hands down favorite here too. It's one of those tunes that sounds better the louder you play it. "Anybody Out There" is a close 2nd.

I didn't discover Shakra until last year. I started with "Everest" and was glad I did. After listening to 'em all, I think it's by far their best. In fact, it was only the Mark Fox stuff that I liked. I didn't get into the older stuff. And aside from "Crazy", I didn't care for anything on the new CD.

Really!! You really dont like anything off that 1st disc? so you basically really don't get into shakra, your more of a Fox fan, would that be safe to say? i believe his disc is coming out soon, if it's not already out, no i like the band myself.

I guess I shouldn't say I didn't like the earlier stuff. I just meant that I liked the Mark Fox albums the best. Probably because "Everest" was the first one I heard and what got me interested in the band. The first disc is good, I just don't listen to it as much as the others.

As for the Fox "2012" disc that just came out... I thought it was awful.

  8. "Bullet in the Back" was one of my favorite tracks of 2010 and after 2 years I'd given up hope of ever hearing more. The other sample isn't too bad. I just hope I haven't set my expectations too high. But it's been a while since any decent hard rock CDs have come out. I was disappointed with the new Hardline, and Koritni CDs - both of which I'd been looking forward to. And don't even get me started on the new Great White. I'm not into most of the AOR you guys like such as that H.E.A.T. CD everyone's raving about. It's probably why I've started listening to more of the Modern Rock bands.

  10. I remember buying this just for "Love on the Telephone". The cover of Beau Nasty's "Make a Wish" isn't too bad, but the rest of the tracks didn't do much for me. I should give them another listen. After 15+ years, maybe my opinion will change.

  11. Its come on my iPod a few times when

Shuffling and I really likes the particular track.

Some good fun songs on there.

But yes. Why not call themselves another name.

I guess it is the same thing as with many other bands. Brand Name and Touring. with the name Great White you are sure to pull in many more fans than if you use the name Blue Ocean Predator or something. only the biggest and most loyal fans would know who the band is.

Wait... Who is this "Blue Ocean Predator?" Are they currently on tour? What do they sound like?

I hear they sound kind of like Great White and XYZ. Sounds cool. I'll have to check 'em out.

Seriously, guys. You're not Van Halen or AC/DC (who had good reason for new lead singer). You can't go 30+ years with pretty much the same lineup, get a new singer and keep the name. You're not Aerosmith either, but try to imagine them with a new lead singer. It might work if you're just tooling around in small clubs like you have been, but not for an official release. Great White at the very least has to have Kendall and Russell together.

    I'll call 'em XGW.
