  1. PC69 for me.

Not one vote yet for poor old Ted. Amazing considering how essential his 2 solo albums are !!

Maybe if he had 5 or more essential releases, 2's not that many. :)

Backed. If anyone was going to vote for Ted one might hazard a guess it would have been me, but 2 excellent albums can't really stand up to the likes of Pretty Maids' (or Poison's) entire catalogue.

I dont want to argue about the size of one's catalogue (after all, I asked the very same question on yr comment about including Melidian under 'M' ), but the question is 'favourite P band'....so I guess if Ted produces your favourite music you could vote for him regardless.

Personally for me he would come a comfortable 2nd, after the mighty PC69.

In my opinion one can easily do without "Smile". Not essential, actually quite disappointing as far as I am concerned. -_-

:agree: Thank you! I thought I was the only one. I like most of the songs but the production's just not there IMHO.

I thought Ted had problems hitting the lower notes. He was off most of the time.

Really? I bloody love that album. One or two fillers, but in the main just awesome to these ears.

  3. Khymera - 'The greatest wonder' ; Excellent, excellent excellent! As good as, if not possibly better than the last album. 4 killer tracks to start the album off, and a bunch to close out the album with a number of delights inbetween. This sounded like a really great CD. Continues right where 'A new promise' left off.

    Backed 100% - killer album.

I think this is my fav release of 2008 so far and I cant really see it falling out of my top 10.

  4. My write-in picks, though (Sorry Mark, only 2nd time I've had to subject you to this, but you missed some good ones here), are:

    2. Melidian

They've only recorded 9 songs (to my knowledge), a couple of which are distinctly average? mmm.

Really? If you ask me that album was filler-free. F*cking love that thing. One of my all-time faves.

Im gonna have to re-listen to this now - I just recall it losing its way in the middle. 'Livin Under the Gun' and 'Top of the Rock' are sublime pieces of perfect hard rock though.

The point of my post was that a band with only 4 or 5 killer songs period, is never going to make my fav 'M' band...... :drink:

  5. But my top "M" would have to be... MSG (Michael Schenker Group, McAuley/Schenker Group).

    Backed 100%

Another glaring omission in the prog rock field is Marillion.

    Of those listed :

    Magnum (by a mile!)

Wow another Marillion fan..... Very cool... Love the Misplaced Childhood album.. Absolutely brilliant....... Never heard anything with the new singer though......

Script is probably my favourite prog release ever. Complete genius from beginning to end.

Fugazi and Misplaced Childhood are also superb

Im not such a fan of the Hogarth era.

    Cheers

  6. Shy Tiger - Feed the Kitty

This is one excellent melodic hard rock cd. It's almost as if Stevie Rachelle was singing for Firehouse with a hint of Hardline. There's not one hint of filler on this thing. Great Melodic Hard Rockers like "Will you be there", "Believe in you", "Young and Only" and "I'll never forget you". Awesome hard rocking tunes like "Hearts on Fire" and "Desperate" and the hilarious "Drink until she's Cute". Also there's one hell of a ballad in "Lay Down and Cry". All in all one of the more kick ass unknown cds that I've heard in some time. This band should of been huge.

Backed and backed over again. One of my all-time favourite CDs. One of my most treasured, too.

Ahhhrrrr, I need to hear this - like now!

Its so seldom that a title comes up that I havent heard and really interests me.

    Cheers

  7. They sound pretty good. Could use a little more 80s than 70s.

I can definitely see what you're saying there, and some of the guitar almost put me off at the start. But I've had this CD spinning all weekend and I just love it.

'Slave' is a bad track, and I'm not too keen on 'I wanna be your man' either. The rest, though... 'Babyx3' is a cool commercial track. Again, not one of my faves and there's better singles, but a good catchy track.

For me, it starts at track 3 - the hugely infectious grower, 'Gotta get out'. I love this song! 'Poison' and 'Tip of my tongue' are both kick-ass hard rockers - 'Poison' being one of my faves. 'Next best thing' is just hands down the best ballad of the year, and one of my favourite tracks in recent years. 'Road to destruction' is a killer metal track and 'All night' almost sounds like the kind of song The Darkness might record if they had an ounce of talent or song writing skill, or could play or their vocalist could sing. This is another of my favourite tracks on the CD, most amusing and very catchy. 'From the ashes of sin' is the 2nd best song on the album and is just an amazing sort of modern melodic rocker - damn I love this song so much. And the closer 'Long way home' is a discreet, but beautiful closing track.

Overall, this is easily one of the albums of the year if you ask me.

OK mate ignore my comment over at the other thread! If I could just see further than the end of my nose. :anon:

This sounds awesome and needs to be purchased asap.

    :drink:

  8. AVANTASIA - 'Another Angel Down' :banger:

Woohoooooooooo! What an anthem! This is a bloody fantastic melodic metal rocker. Definitely straight into my top 10 songs of the year.

Holy sh*t, now its 'Promised Land' from Part 2. What an amazing fist in the air chorus! :headbanger:

Both these songs are bloody ace.

    WOW.

  9. Robbie Valentine - "Falling down in misanthropolis' (man this CD makes me angry at times)

    Why?

Because, and I mean no offence to anyone because this is only my opinion, but I just think he is SO shit!!! I know he flukes a good song here and there and I do really, really love those rare great tracks… but opposite to those tracks, I actually genuinely really, really hate 80% of his songs. I just sometimes hate music that I can listen to and fully understand why and agree with someone (an outsider) who could pick it apart and call it awful. His vocals are, with my hand on heart, in the top 5 worst I have ever heard. I just can’t stand his voice and so many of the songs are so awfully annoying…. Just really irritating so that you just have to reach for the stereo and turn it off or skip it.

Anyway, sorry. I don’t mean to get carried away. Some of his earlier tracks are immaculate and I can’t take that away from him… but for every stunning track he has 9-10 absolutely terrible songs which should be banned.

    Spinning:

DaVinci – ‘Back in business’ (Such a brilliant piece of melodic rock)

    Hush – ‘Mirage’

Right and on the flip side of that I would have to say that this is pretty essential for any lover of AOR.

To these ears I can find only one filler on this album - Show Your Face (which I really dont like at all), but elsewhere, the first 7 tracks are all awesome. And toward the end 'Searching Forever' and 'The Mistake' are both very good ballads.

Covers arent my greatest love, but Flick Of The Wrist is pretty flawless and even the ABBA cover is interesting.

Jap only import is the only drawback with this baby!

Id far rather listen to this than the new Seb Bach

    Back on topic

    Vision Divine - 25th Hour

    Wildkard - Mego.....

Seb Bach - Angel Down.......................seriously how this can be compared to Slave is beyond me !
