  2. BROTHER FIRETRIBE - Heart Full of Fire

I know there's been a mixed reaction to this one, but for me this absolutely kicks dirt in the face of the debut album. It's slightly more poppy-AOR in it's approach & has less variety than "False Metal", but is also more consistent & the songs are undoubtedly stronger. "Wildest Dreams" is the best song of the year, full stop ( http://www.melodicrock.com/audio/BrotherFi...ldestDreams.mp3 ) & "Runaways" almost matches it for top song honours. Vuorinen's lead-guitar work really stands out on this, some of the solo's are utterly incredible, & the keyboard work is just lush throughout, & more prominent than before. The title-track is HUGE & is a duet with Annette Olzon of Nightwish, & the cover of Mike Reno's "Chasing the Angels" is another slice of glorious pomp/AOR. IMHO, after only one listen, this is running SKAGARACK's "Hungry For A Game" & EUROPE's "Out of this World" very close as being the best albums to ever come out of Scandinavia...

IMO Heart Full Of Fire pisses on Hungry For A Game. Period.

  3. I cant believe it! Someone actually liked one of my suggestions.... this has brought a tear to my eye... noone has ever liked my suggestions.

Told Edguy are a killer band!

HS fans check out Donots???? confused...

I can't believe it either. That's why I'm kind of embarrassed about it. But it is a great album, I do admit.

The only other Edguy album worth picking up is Hellfire Club - the rest are patchy at best.

    Rocketride is their best IMO.

Have you heard Mandrake?? Thats a very strong album!

    Yes.

The song 'Tears of a Mandrake' is an absolute monster, but IMO the rest of the album just doesnt live up to that great beginning.

I really want to like songs like 'Jerusalem' etc but they just dont do it for me.

'Pharaoh' is pretty good as well, but too long.........and it doesnt hold a light to 'Piper....' on Hellfire Club which is an absolutely fcuking awesome song, and their best IMO.

    Cheers

  5. BROTHER FIRETRIBE - Heart Full of Fire (soundbytes)

I just love this band. The House of Lords & Khymera are great albums, but they can't come close to BFT IMHO.... "Wildest Dreams" is the best AOR song since "I'm On Fire" & "One Single Breath" (from their debut).

I guess I'm the only person that thought that "Love Goes Down" was the best song on the debut.

For some reason nobody ever mentions that tune with the other great tunes on that disc.

Yep, "Love Goes Down" & "Valerie" were both right up there too. When there are just so many great tunes rather than one or two stand-out tracks then everyone will disagree on their fave tunes.

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that "Wildest Dreams" & "Runaways" are better than anything on the debut...

Backed mate. Those two songs are stunning.

Yep, got to agree that those 2 songs are great.

I also love 'Game They Call Love'.....stunning chorus.

& the bridge to 'Going Out With A Bang' is pure 80's joy.

Great album and to be honest there's not really a weak track on it - I can see it becoming my fav. Even over Khymera and HOL, which is really saying something.

    Cheers

  6. KHYMERA - The Greatest Wonder

This is sensational. My dislike for Dennis Wards' nasally vocals continues here, & the production is not very crisp, but otherwise this is flawless AOR. Better than their last album, which itself I loved, this is just such a consistent set of tunes. The title-track, "Borderline" & "Love Will Find You" are the 3 best AOR songs of 2008 so far (the new Brother Firetribe and House of Lords will have to be good to beat them) & there really are hardly any fillers here. The album also saves the very best tunes for near the end so it finishes strongly also, but anyone thinking there wasn't much good AOR coming out at the moment (which there isnt) should snap this up ASAP. Killer CD.

    Backed.

I love those songs too, but my favs are 'Since You Went Away' and the absolutely marvellous, killer 'No Sacrifice'.

  7. Khymera - The Greatest Wonder (The AOR Brigade are gonna have wet knickers over this one)

    Work Of Art - Artwork

Was just spinning those two myself this morning. The Khymera is just top class right through, barely a filler.

Pisses from a great height on the other 2 and I liked them, especially 'A New Promise'. You are right TIM - Not one bad tune on here mate.

The Work Of Art I have had a preview of for about a month now, so am very used to it - Shame they left off the Acoustic version of Camelia which was on the promo!! Absolute Killer disc though. :drink:

The only track even remotely close to filler on the new Khymera is 'If I Cant Be', but even that is good. There are at least 4 or 5 tracks on this album which are as good as any song in 07 in my opinion. Great, great album.

    Back on topic -

    Work of Art - Artwork

Finally spinning this now and this is a top album too. Maybe a tad light for my taste, but still quality throughout.

  8. PC69 for me.

Not one vote yet for poor old Ted. Amazing considering how essential his 2 solo albums are !!

Maybe if he had 5 or more essential releases, 2's not that many. :)

Backed. If anyone was going to vote for Ted one might hazard a guess it would have been me, but 2 excellent albums can't really stand up to the likes of Pretty Maids' (or Poison's) entire catalogue.

I dont want to argue about the size of one's catalogue (after all, I asked the very same question on yr comment about including Melidian under 'M' ), but the question is 'favourite P band'....so I guess if Ted produces your favourite music you could vote for him regardless.

Personally for me he would come a comfortable 2nd, after the mighty PC69.

    :drink:
