  1. Work Of Art - Artwork

Brother Firetribe - Heart Full Of Fire

    Khymera - The Greatest Wonder

    Marcello-Vestry - s/t

Definitely the 4 best releases of 08 so far.

But which is the best.......mmm, tough one that.

Brother Firetribe is the best, but I can't disagree with that list.... Wait till you hear the new Journey, you'll be adding that to the list too!

Git, how the F have you heard that? I thought there was no promos, nothing???! Or are you judging on the soundbites on the Walmart website??

Either way, I have no doubt in my mind that I will love Revelations.

And I guess that HS, Hugo/Ramos and Danger Danger will be contenders too.

  2. marcello / vestry - s/t , what an incredible slice of mhr bliss, an absolute masterpiece.

no where on earth is ONE going to hear the perfect danger danger album to come between their debut & "screw it"

you want cheese with your melodies then you ain't going to find a better album that truely delivers out there than this.

    :beerbang:

'Without you'? This is mind-blowing... right at the top of my fave songs of the year.

 hands down the best song on the album.

  3. Safety Suit - Life Left To Live

    Wow, I love this album.

It's excellent, isn't it? Do you hear Def Leppard-esque guitar on one of those ballads towards the end? Great disc.

Herazz - 'Dream in your eyes'

    Fury - s/t

    Guilty Pleasure - 'Busted'

I was actually thinking Coldplay with balls (& hooks  ). Great album.

    back on topic -

Whitesnake - Good To Be Bad - this gets better with every play!

Story Of The Year - Black Swan

  4. Got my copy of "Machines and Robots" in the mail today. Damn fine album. Only one track (Not Alone) out of five didn't make the cut. That title track is a catchy little anthem. Great way to end the disc. How are these guys not getting signed. The lead singer's voice is perfect for today commercial hard rock market. Lovin' the notes he can hit. Can't wait for "September Sessions" to arrive next so I can hear that ballad again.

    Chris

Listened to my copy of "September Sessions" today. Damn fine album. I even give it the edge over "Machines and Robots". All five tracks are good on this one. And, the ballad "Make Me Believe", I think I've already stated how I feel about that song. This is great modern melodic hard rock people. One of the reasons I come to this board is to check out new bands that people recommend. Kudos to the starter of this thread. Keep 'em coming.

    Chris

Kudos to you too my friend - just gave you another one today...Adelitas Way. Unsigned too :(

  5. This is really a great disc. It's a shame the 'Other Music Styles' thread might put some people off, because this is just killer hard rock. I can't wait to hear a full album from these guys.

I think that 'Morphine' is fast becoming my fav song of 08 so far.

Killer song, killer EP - as you say its a shame its not a full album.

Where did you get this from? I would love to pick this up but can't find it anywhere....

Not widely available outside of Canada/US. The link on the web page goes to Maple Records, but the shipping times/expense is silly. Try Amazon.com - they will still ship to UK and times/costs are much better/lower. All their other stuff is on UK itunes if you want that.

  6. Safetysuit - 'Life left to go' ; this sounds very nice

Yeah, I listened at their Myspace page and was quite impressed - what's the full album like?

This one is great, mate. I keep using this word, but I guess only when I hear a good band which means there's a few going round, but it's collection of good, strong emotive tunes. If I had to pick a comparison I'd say Goo Goo Dolls, but don't let it decide it for you one way or another. This is just a great disc.

    New spins:

Seventh Day Slumber - 'Finally awake'

    A New Revolution - 'Rise'

Tupelo Honey - 'Machines and robots'

The New Shining - 'Supernatural showdown'

After spinning a heap of crap I am finally reaping the rewards of persistence as these are all fantastic.

do you ever listen to anything apart from modern rock?

Sorry mate, but I just fully disagree with what that question means. I only listen to hard rock. If people have to say these bands are so separate to HOL or Brother Firetribe, that's their loss. There's solos on all these albums; there's big riffs, big choruses... everything that makes me listen to the latest HOL or Brother Firetribe. I personally don't think I'm listening to something different. Every reason I love HOl and Brother Firetribe is the same reason I love these bands.

Break down these barriers, mate, and just enjoy music for what it is.

I agree 100% - the fact is that so far this year quite a few modern releases like Story Of The Year, Simple Plan, Tupelo Honey, Pillar, Theory of A Deadman etc are better than most MHR efforts.....aside from Brother Firetribe, WOA and Khymera........and so definitely deserve the attention they are receiving - from me anyhow.

I am eagerly awaiting some upcoming releases though which will radically change this - namely Harem Scarem, Journey, Marcello/Vestry, Bob Catley.....these will put MHR firmly back on the map in 08.

    :drink:
