  1. Probably overdue, but I've tweaked some of the genre titles and added one. "Lite AOR" is now "Pop AOR / Westcoast" "AOR" is now "Melodic Rock / AOR" "Hard Rock" is now "80s Hard Rock" "Southern Rock" is now "Southern and Blues Rock" and I've added a category for "Modern Hard Rock" With all the good stuff coming out from Hinder, Nickelback, Shinedown, etc., they're too close and overlapping the styles on HH to be excluded. If you feel there are any existing bands on HH that should be moved into the "Modern Hard Rock" (or to any other category for that matter), please post to this thread and we'll discuss. I also updated the icon for HH Radio and moved it to the top of the page. -Dan
  2. Umm... I can't tell if this is a joke or what. No smilies. Wrong forum. Should I be warming up the baneed icon?...
  3. That would be about $464 Heck, I've had my sealed spare copy on my sale list at $75 for 6 months with no takers. Doubt he's gonna get $464...
  4. What's the production/sound quality? Is it finished or just rough demos? I wouldn't mind hearing this... -Dan
  5. Just throw the lights out and buy a new set every year. Me... What decorations? I'm a "Bah! Humbug!" kinda guy anyway...
  6. The Ref (highly underrated!!!) Toys (quirky but I enjoy it) Scrooged (can't get enough of this one!)
  7. USA (AP) - A 44-year-old man was crushed to death today by a giant breast. His last words were "Dude! Look at those awesome ti...." Not so awesome.
  8. Were you drunk when you typed this?
  9. Yup. Last time I went out for the "Specials" was 5 or 6 years ago... I think. Can't recall. Too much stupidity for too little bargain. Most stores only have a few units of the really good deals anyway, so if you're not one of the first 20 morons in line at 2:00am, you lose anyway. Fuck that. I remember the last time I did go out, it was bitterly cold (below 10 degrees), we got to Best Buy at 5:00am (at that time they opened at 6:30 or 7am) and found the line already stretched around the back of the store for 2 blocks. To top it off, when the doors opened, people who JUST arrived surged their way in the doors ahead of those of us who had been in line. Cocksuckers. Later that morning, I remember standing in a checkout line at Circuit City for 1.5 hours just to get a few CDs and DVDs. I vowed never again. Most big retailers are now offering "Black Friday" deals online now too, so there's no reason to leave the house. Frankly, most of the "hot" deals I saw in the ads this year weren't any better than you could find online if you shopped judiciously. I slept in and avoided the bullshit. I did venture out at noon to have a nice lunch at my Chinese buffet. That was nice. Fuck day-after-Thanksgiving shopping. They've turned what was once a neat idea into a giant Krazed Konsumer Klusterfuck. -Dan P.S. Anyone else remember how, when this first got started, it was amazing that stores were going to open at... *gasp* 8:00am!!!!... then 7:00... then 6:00... now 5:00am with Best Buy advertising that they would start distributing tickets to those in line at 3:00am... They just keep pushing the insanity to new heights.
  10. Words... cannot... express... the horror... But I'll try... "Holy shit, dude!"
  11. I've been meaning to ask how you went with that Disturbed CD. I notice it's not mentioned there but I remember you going wild about it when it was released. Did it fade for you too? I remember thinking it was okay-ish on first listen but I didn't play past the third or fourth song last time. Never been a fan of Disturbed. As for the Disciple comments... I agree with Glen. You heathen! It's still way up there for me. The only problem is that I went through a few weeks during the summer where I pretty much listened to it to death... over and over and over... which burned me out a bit, so I've deliberately NOT been listening to it and will revisit the disc before making my list. I seriously don't know how I'm going to trim down and rank 5 CDs for the year. Ack! -Dan
  12. Picked up this CD (Nickelback, not Justin Hawkins or Geoff's pugs) yesterday and have spun it a few times... and I've gotta say that despite their previous efforts leaving me with a resounding "meh" this one actually has quite a few hooks and melodies that have me enjoying it. I think the Mutt Lange "treatment" also helps as far as listenability. "Next Go Round" feels out of place and is as useless as tits on a bull, but outside of that one clunker, all the songs rate. This year has turned out exceptionally with respect to music releases. Making my Top 5 list is going to be excruciating. CDs that I thought for sure would be in contention back in June now won't make the list. And it's not just traditional hard rock/AOR (Journey, Jimi Jamison, Rockarma, Marcello-Vestry, AC/DC) that have had stellar releases, but so-called "modern" hard rock has some REAL gems (Shinedown, Hinder, Nickelback). The only modern hard rock release that people have been talking about that I consider to have been a waste of money is Disciple - Southern Hospitality. Does absolutely NOTHING for me. Unlistenable to my ears. -Dan
  13. Iconic Metal Band KEEL Reunites In 2009 ORIGINAL MEMBERS PERFORM TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS FOR THE BAND’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY HOLLYWOOD, CA (November 18th, 2008) - 2009 will mark iconic metal band KEEL’s 25th anniversary, and the passing of two decades since the original lineup played on stage together. Unlike most of their contemporaries, none of the members has ever performed as KEEL since 1989. Ron Keel, guitarists Marc Ferrari & Bryan Jay, drummer Dwain Miller along with Geno Arce (Ron’s long-time bassist) are preparing to perform again for the first time in 20 years. “It would not have been right without these guys,” expresses Ron Keel. With the high volume of requests for the band to reunite, the members felt the time is right to deliver the show fans everywhere have been demanding: a KEEL reunion. In 1985, “The Right To Rock” became the fastest-selling debut album in A&M Record’s history. Selling over 2 million albums the band was proclaimed the Best New Band by Metal Edge and Circus Magazines. The title track was a hit on radio & MTV and remains a staple on VH1 Classic, in addition to the group’s subsequent hits “Tears Of Fire,” “Because The Night,” “Somebody’s Waiting,”and “Rock & Roll Outlaw.” They developed a reputation as one of the genre’s most entertaining live acts, opening for heavyweights like Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, and Van Halen amongst many others. Plans are for KEEL to reunite at a select number of festivals and showcase dates in 2009 to perform all their hits and classic favorites in celebration of 25 years of rock n roll history. The KEEL “Debut Reunion Concert” will take place in Hollywood on Saturday, January 31st. The location for this historic event will be Club Vodka at The Knitting Factory – visit the web site and MySpace for details. For more information go to http://keelreunion.com and http://myspace.com/keelband
  14. Actually, the idiocy in the link I referenced goes beyond the pale, regardless of which ideological side you come down on. This is beyond Pat Robertson/Jerry Falwell kind of nuts. -Dan
  15. I can't tell if some people are insane or desparate. I'm personally not a religious person, but the idea of worshipping a living person seems somehow offensive. The whole notion gives me the heebyjeebies... http://obamamessiah.blogspot.com/
  16. Actually Tim, it wasn't you at all. The response(s) that came after were the ones where things went sideways. No worries! -Dan
  17. Just picked this one up on the way home today, and have given it one spin... So... what marketing genius at Universal said to themselves "Ok! Let's repackage that Canuck group Harem Scarem, throw in some Playboy tits and ass packaging, and sell it to the U.S. masses!" Whataver. It works. Damned good stuff. The lead vocals are a little raspy for my tastes (which is what made me tire of HS all the time), but musically, this thing rocks! For those here in the states: Two "Exclusive" editions - 1. Wal-Mart. CD+DVD edition is $15.88. 3 bonus tracks that are new songs, not just different versions: Thunderstruck (AC/DC cover), Live for Today, Running in the Rain. 2. Best Buy. CD+DVD edition is $14.99 in store, but $11.99 at BestBuy.com shipped FREE. The stores *WILL* match the web site price. 6 bonus tracks, all alternate versions: Heaven Sent (live) Loaded and Alone (acoustic) Lost in the Sun (live) The Best Is Yet to Come (acoustic) Without You (acoustic) Use Me (live) Oh, and the gatefold digipak artwork of the CD+DVD edition is worth it.
  18. Thread cleaned up back to the point it veered off-track. PMs sent. Thanks, -Dan
  19. Lessee... Shinedown - Second Chance Marcello-Vestry - All I Wanna Do Kissin' Dynamite - My Religion Disturbed - Inside the Fire Brother Firetribe - Goin' Out With a Bang Rockarma - Get Me Outta This Hole Black Tide - Warriors of Time
