  1. Blue, I'm getting a distinct feeling of deja-vu from your post
  2. The only Sep CD I bought with Derrick was AGAINST (his first one) and it didn't do a thing for me, I ended up trading it away. I guess musically it was OK but it just sounded rushed. (I found out later that the band had written most of the album before Derrick joined the band and he basically learned the songs on the fly, so I guess that's not so far from the truth.) I have heard one song off of the new one (I believe it's called "Convicted In Life") and it sounded OK, a little more "old school" vibe to it, but it wasn't enough to make me rush out and buy DANTE XXI or whatever it's called... My brother and I were both SO let down by ROOTS. We both loved CHAOS A.D. and after waiting three years for a new CD we could hardly wait to hear it, but both of us reacted like "???" It was one of those CDs that we listened to for like a week straight, really WANTING to like it, really TRYING to like it, and eventually we both realized it just wasn't our thang.
  3. Just Finished: Warrior Soul - Last Decade Dead Century Right Now: The Cult - Beyond Good And Evil On Deck: Dio - Dream Evil Hades - The Downside Overkill - Fuck You & Then Some Winters Bane - Heart of a Killer
  4. Sepultura was awesome ... I especially like the BENEATH THE REMAINS, ARISE, and CHAOS A.D. period... saw'em twice back then and they crushed live... but ROOTS kinda lost me and the newer stuff with Derrick singing doesn't do much for me (although I did like their cover of U2's "Bullet The Blue Sky" from the last album...)
  5. Barlow was an excellent frontman too. Did you ever see I.E. live while he was in the band? I saw 'em on the Horror Show tour in '02 in Philly and he was awesome. He really knew how to command a crowd. I haven't seen Ripper live in years, never saw him with Priest or I.E. but believe it or not I actually DID see his Judas Priest tribute band (British Steel) in a club in NJ a couple of years before he joined Priest... probably '94 or '95 or so... he was a good live performer back then and I'm sure he's only gotten better with all the road experience he's had since...
  6. ...And you might be from the '80s if you own Kiss Meets The Phantom on video!!! (P.S. I do!)
  7. Oh yea, "The Ballad" is an excellent tune... I also like the instrumental at the end of that album, "Confusion Fusion" or whatever it's called...
  8. Last I heard, Barlow was working as a state trooper (!) in Delaware (I think) and has pretty much dropped out of music altogether. So I doubt Jon will be getting him back in the band anytime soon. Shame, but at least I got to see I.E. live with Matt on vocals before he left. I read somewhere that before Jon got Owens in the band, he had almost finished tracking Barlow's vocals for GLORIOUS BURDEN when Matt admitted his heart wasn't into it anymore. I wonder if there are any bootlegs of Matt's version floating around out there? that would be an interesting listen.
  9. "Preach" is a great record but the production is kinda weak sounding. LOW, however, whacks you upside the head like a brick! That thing is HEAVY!!!
  10. Mmmmm... White Castles....(gurgle gurgle) Haven't had them in ages. For a while in the last office building I worked at, you could get frozen ones out of a vending machine in the cafeteria! How cool is THAT??
  11. Years of Decay is certainly a great CD... I saw them three times (!) on that tour back in the day. I got my ticket stub autographed by Bobby Gustafson at the third show, an outdoor gig at Ramapo College in NJ in the summer of '90. Turned out to be his last show with the band cuz they announced his departure a short time later! I get a kick out of the song "Old School" on RELIXIV cuz it mentions some of the old clubs in NYC that I used to see them in back in the day like the Ritz in Manhattan and L'amour in Brooklyn... man, those were the days...
  12. I saw them on the "LOW" tour in '94 at a little club in Long Island, NY... killer show, even though the two opening bands sucked and Testament didn't go on till quarter after 2 in the morning (!!) ...ugh
  13. Continuing my efforts to make this Fat Freddy's Page O'Metal Polls... what's your favorite studio album by the Bay Area Bashers? My vote goes to "Low," with "Practice What You Preach" in at a very close second
  14. Tim has said that Beyond Fear is just something to "keep him busy" while Jon Schaffer writes the next Iced Earth CD (which is supposedly going to be the long awaited second installment of the "Something Wicked" saga)... and that the Beyond Fear CD release and tour (he's going to be opening for Anthrax across Europe) was specially timed so that it wouldn't conflict with any Iced Earth activities... I certainly hope he doesn't leave I.E. cuz I think he's finally found a band he can call "home"
  15. I've heard that "Dead Again" is not one of MF's best... that's why I haven't gotten around to adding that one to the collection yet "Pretty weak" Fatal Portrait? That's my favorite King solo disc (the other being "Abigail," the rest I can take or leave)... maybe cuz it basically sounded like a third MF album.
  16. In the car on the way here this AM: Primal Fear - Seven Seals On deck: Iced Earth - Night of the Stormrider Jacobs Dream - Drama of the Ages Laaz Rockit - City's Gonna Burn
  17. Yeah she's good lookin' but when she starts talking I want to hit the mute button. They should stop letting her talk on the air. If you go to votetheworst.com it's promoting you to vote for Kellie, and it goes on to say "because after this North Carolina won't want her back." <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hahaha, ain't it the truth! OK, before we get accused of , let's get back to the topic at hand: You might be from the '80s if... someone in your fifth grade class ruined the "Luke I Am Your Father" bit from "The Empire Strikes Back" before you had a chance to see it for yourself
  18. Hey I don't mind polls. I think the more polls the better. Back to Iced Earth though, I'm looking foward to Ripper's new band. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hell yea, Beyond Fear... I'm looking forward to that as well. I've heard a few clips on the net (if you go to Ripper's website, www.timripperowens.com , a track plays automatically in the background once the page loads) and it sounds pretty killer to me. Like something off of the first Fight album. I can't wait to hear the rest of it!!
  19. At this rate Dan is going to have to add an entire page for Fat Freddy's Polls' O'Metal!! Hey, I like the sound of that...
  20. Hey Geoff: Is it just me or does Danni Minogue look kinda like a young Tanya Roberts ("Sheena," "A View To A Kill")? I mean that in the best possible way of course...cuz the "Sheena" movie was VERY instrumental in my shift from boyhood to pervy teenager-hood
  21. At least American Idol has some cute eye candy (Helll-OOOO Kellie Pickler!!)
  22. Looks like I got me some poll arrangin' to do!
  23. Personally, I felt "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo" was FAR superior to the original "Breakin." The performance by Shabba-Doo was positively awe inspiring!! (Sarcasm light is "ON" in case you couldn't tell, folks) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm glad I'm not the only one that remembers those movies. I actually remember seeing the second one at the movie theater <{POST_SNAPBACK}> One of the "Breakin" movies came on cable one afternoon as I was channel surfing a while ago and I just had to stop and watch... it was like witnessing a bad train wreck... SO awful yet I could NOT take my eyes off of it... it was scarier than any horror movie!!!
