I guess this is kind of personal because I know people that live there now and my cousin use to live there but that is long after the events of this song took place.

I remember reading an article on the 10 worst tragedies in West Virginia's history about a year ago. This Buffalo Creek flood was #2 on the list. The only thing that they had listed as more tragic was the crash of Southern Airways Flight 932 on November 14, 1970. Flight #932 was carrying 37 members of the Marshall Thundering Herd football team along with 8 coaches, 25 booster , and a flight crew of 4, and 1 member from the charter company. The flight went down just short of the runway in Credo, WV. killing all 75 people on board. The team was returning home after a lose to East Carolina.
