Hi !

I would like to know if you are quite sure of Gene Simmons' birthdate. Rocking Country Style say it was in 1933 in Tupelo however for you Simmons could have been born in 1937. Who is right and who is wrong ???

Best,

Stephan Koenig

For you HHers, I had no idea who he was talking about as well. He could have been talking about Gene Simmons (KISS), which would have made sense here. Or he could have been talking about Jean Simmons (actress). But here's what I found:

I did a search and on Last.Fm, it says, "Jumpin’ Gene Simmons (July 10, 1933, Tupelo, Mississippi - August 29, 2006, Tupelo, Mississippi) was an American rockabilly singer and songwriter.

Simmons began his recording career with Sun Records in 1958. He performed as an opening act for Elvis Presley.

He had his biggest success with Hi Records in 1964 with the #11 Billboard chart hit, “Haunted House”.

His last opus was “Indian Outlaw”, which he co-wrote, and which became a 1994 hit for Tim McGraw. "

Here's his obituary, which says he was born in 1937, but I think that's a typo.

He's also listed here, with pics of his headstone:

Dunno the exact date of this dude's birth, but I do remember when his obituary/death announcement made the rounds a couple of years ago... cuz one of my smart ass friends sent it to me in an e-mail with the subject line "R.I.P. GENE SIMMONS!" ... of course, I just about had a coronary till I opened the e-mail and realized it was not "THE" Gene Simmons... I then replied to my friend's e-mail "Don't you EVER do that to me again!"
