Great stuff and one of Mike Onesko's biggest influences.

Just starting to listen to more and more of Trower and liking what I'm hearing so some CD's will be purchased down the track.

Would like to hear your recomendations of what you think are his best albums and what would be the best ones to get knowing that I really like that Bridge Of Sighs track and that sort of sound and style.

P.S....A new Robin Trower tribute album is in the pipe works to be done, with Mike Onesko probably being a part of it.

Hey Dave,

:agree: 1000%! I am a long time Trower fan goin' back to when he was in Procol Harum (yeah, I know, who's them guys? ;) ) But I really became a huge fan when he began his solo career. Twice Removed From Yesterday was his first solo release & is damn good, IMO. The original Chrysalis release is both fairly tough to find.....& even more so in an affordable price range. Bridge Of Sighs was the second release ('74) & would be a good release to start with. Excellent all-around release, with fantastic tunes from start to finish! I believe Bill Lordan joined in time for the third release, For Earth Below, which has many excellent tunes & is another of my faves. IMHO, the addition of Bill Lordan raised the level of both the quality of songs, but more so when the trio of Trower/Dewar & Lordan performed live! Most of the earlier releases are more 'bluesy' than the late 70's - 90's material, IMO, as the vocalists changed durin' those time periods. 'Bout 10 years ago most of the R.T. catalog was remastered & reissued on the BGO (Beat Goes On) label with two releases on 1 CD. Both the artwork & remasterin' were excellent improvements for the earlier releases, as well.

I'll try to give ya some ideas/recommendations based on both the 70's, 80's & some from the 90's.....

70's:

Bridge Of Sighs (Trower/Dewar/Isadore) originally on Chrysalis Records;

also remastered on BGO - Twice Removed From Yesterday/Bridge Of Sighs

Live! (Trower/Dewar/Lordan) originally on Chrysalis Records;

also remastered on BGO - For Earth Below/Live! (Live! was also remastered & reissued separately, with this issue includin' a large fold-out poster)

80's:

Victims Of The Fury (Trower/Dewar/Lordan) originally on Chrysalis Records;

also remastered on BGO - Caravan To Midnight/Victims Of The Fury

Robin Trower also did a few releases in the earlier part of the 80's with Jack Bruce of "Cream", before 08's Seven Moons release. BLT is an excellent release of this collaboration.

Another release from '85 that is both one of the best, as well as more difficult to find & usually commands $50+ is "Beyond The Mist" & although it is one of my very fave releases, it is not easy to find, as well as more costly. There are fakes/boots of this rare release around, so be careful if/when tryin' to obtain this rare release. One of the reasons this release is more sought after is that it only has two studio tracks, with the remainin' 5 tracks bein' live songs. There is a freakin' fantastic 10+ minute version of Bridge Of Sighs that is outstanding!

90's:

In The Line Of Fire originally on Atlantic Records

This is both another fave of mine! Davey Pattison is on this release & adds remarkably to every song, IMO! This may've been one of the more commercially successful releases for Trower, & not as 'bluesy' as earlier releases, but I would/do recommend it to all.

In short: ;)

Bridge Of Sighs

Live!

Victims Of The Fury

BLT

In The Line Of Fire

are all good releases to start with! :tumbsup:

If ya need any other info.....feel free to pm me....anytime!

Enjoy Dave! :drink:

After spending all yesterday morning listening to samples from all his albums, that's a great breakdown of his material and some very good advice you have given in regards to recomendations :tumbsup:

The first one I will get will be "Bridge Of Sighs" but I'm still undecided whether to get the remastered version with the 5 bonus BBC live tracks or the two album deal that includes the "Twice Removed From Yesterday" album :unsure:

The other ones that are now on my radar that I did like and will consider getting are the double packs:

For Earth Below / LIVE

Long Misty Days / In City Dreams

Caravan To Midnght / Victims Of The Fury

and I also liked the samples from "Back It Up" and "Living Out Of Time"

Again, thanks for your thoughts and your advice :drink:

Actually this double pack is pretty expensive so it will be the remastered version for me :tumbsup:

:christmas: ......Jon, all is fine because I did an audit on my currently available CD money and there was enough to cover these 6 Robin Trower albums but unless that big fat man in the red suit hopefully throws a bit more my way come Christmas, I might be in a bit of strife when I place my fair sized Grooveyard order at the begining of next year :unsure::christmas:

:drink: mate !!!!

She was 79.  The band confirmed McVie’s death in a note shared on social media. “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.” In a statement, McVie’s family said she died today, Nov. 30, at a hospital “following a short illness.” The statement continued: “She was in the company of her family. We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally. RIP Christine McVie.”   McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970. She went on to write (and co-write) some of the band’s most memorable songs, including the Rumours classics “Don’t Stop” and “You Make Loving Fun,” as well as “Hold Me,” “Little Lies,” and “Over My Head.” Though she stuck with the band through some pretty tumultuous years, especially during the early Nineties, she left the group after their big 1998 reunion tour. After a lengthy hiatus off the stage and out of the public eye, she returned to Fleetwood Mac in 2014 and was playing with them as recently as 2019. Throughout her tenure in Fleetwood Mac, McVie almost seemed like the calm eye in the middle the storm that was the rest of the band. “That is apparently true, but I didn’t realize that at the time,” she quipped in an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year. “Yes, I was supposedly like the Mother Teresa who would hang out with everybody or just try and [keep] everything nice and cool and relaxed. But they were great people; they were great friends. McVie was born Christine Anne Perfect on July 12, 1943, her father a concert violinist and music professor, her mother a psychic medium and faith healer. Perfect started playing piano as a child, studying classical music until she was a teenager, at which point her interests turned blues and rock and roll.  TRENDING How Trump Got Trolled by a Couple of Fascists Organ-Devouring ‘Liver King’ Blasted by Bodybuilders Over Alleged Steroid Use Christine McVie, Keyboardist and Singer for Fleetwood Mac, Dead at 79 Adam Sandler Let His Daughters Write His Gotham Awards Speech — And They Absolutely Roasted Him   She played in a variety of bands during the Sixties, forming the most notable one, Chicken Shack, with Andy Silvester and Stan Webb, in 1968. Chicken Shack released a pair of albums with Perfect — 40 Blue Fingers, Freshly Packed and Ready to Serve and O.K. • My first live experience was D-A-D on April 22, 1995, at a venue which had a capacity of 6000 people. It was on their Helpyourselfish tour, and every song from that album was included on a setlist consisting of 24 songs. They were at the height of their career both musically and popularity-wise. I've seen them about 15 times, but this April night was something special.
    • I thought you hate Synthwave. Why did you buy The Midnight?
    • shame you missed Skid Row. They were great back then
    • Almost impossible to separate my top 10 as most could easily swap position (especially 1 & 2 !!). But I gave it a go. 1. Threshold - Dividing Lines Only just recently released but this was always going to be a huge album for me. 5 yrs since the release of Shires but the wait was worth it. This is a masterpiece in my opinion - melody, lyrics, vocals, musicianship, hooks all amazing. 2. Ghost - Imperia For a long while this was top of the pack and was definitely my most listened to album of 2022. The last 2 Ghost albums were amazing and this is no different. Great production, arrangements - this something really different and unique. Best gig of 2022 as well - their show at London O2 was stunning 3. Muse - Will of the People Biggest surprise of the year. Never would have imagined that a Muse album would feature in my best of list let alone end up no 3!! Easily their best album to date , love every track. Short at just 37 mins, but I love that. No filler, all killer album. Brilliant lyrics and subject matter as well 4. VHS Collection - Night Drive Never has an album title been so accurate. This album is made for night time driving - just an awesome vibe, brilliant songs. Top job all round 5. Alter Bridge - Pawns & Kings Monumental metal album. Dark, deep lyrically, crunching Tremonti riffs. Love it. 6 Kissin Dynamite - Not The End of the Road Another surprise for me. Never been the biggest KD fan but man they nailed it on this. Barely a filler in sight and easily the best pure melodic rock album of 2022 7. Degreed - Are You Ready Another top quality album from one of my fav bands. Really hate the song Radio though which keeps this out of the top 5 8. Dan Reed Network - Let's Hear it for the King I do dearly love this album, and agonised a bit over its placing, but the albums above are just too good. Massive return to form and I pretty much love every track with 'I See Angels' probably bring my fav ballad of 2022 9. Cats in Space - Kickstart the Sun Another album which could be top 5 on any given day. Just a couple of weaker tracks pull it down slightly but stuff like the title track & Smoke & Mirrors are top drawer. Brilliant vocals as well. 10. Iron Allies - Blood In Blood Out Late addition to my top 10 but my God this album is awesome! Best thing Reece has been on in years and old school metal album of the year imo. Just crunching metal and sensational solos. Go to gym album So now we come to honourable mentions - in no order - all v good albums in their own right : Reckless Love - excellent attempt at synthwave Chez Kane - another great 80s throwback Skid Row - Erik breaths new life into old dogs Palace - great bunch of feel good songs Crashdiet - best album since GW Treat - more great modern melodic rock Black Swan - better than the debut Ultraboss - v nice synthwave album Ronnie Atkins - Bit of a dip but still v nice Young Gun Silver Fox - best Westcoast 2022 Do there you go, 20 great albums which I would recommend. I really good year in music with a few surprises for me. 👍
    • Up until 2007 only local bands performing cover songs. 2008, my first ever international experience and it was an awesome one. It was Mr.Big's reunion tour.
    • New video for 'LARP'. From Frontiers: Infinite & Divine, a collaboration between two Swedish musicians, guitarist/songwriter/producer Jan Åkesson and vocalist Tezzi (a/k/a Terese Persson), will release their sophomore album, "Ascendancy" on February 10, 2023.  In the summer of 2019, Jan and Tezzi first encountered one another and shortly after that set to work on writing songs for what would ultimately become their debut album, ”Silver Lining”. Said album was a fantastic combination of Jan’s energetic heavy riffs, the influences of their varied taste in melodic hard rock and metal, and Tezzi’s melodic, yet powerful vocals. "Ascendancy" sees the two taking that songwriting formula and building upon it to craft an even more thrilling and energetic album, highlighting all their strengths.  Terese "Tezzi" Persson started her musical career doing local troubadour gigs at the age of 17, but before that had already started writing her own songs and lyrics. Over the years, she has appeared in different musical projects both as a lead singer in metal and progressive rock bands, as well as doing backup vocals for various Swedish artists. In 2013, she also appeared on the second album, “Fantasmagoria,” from Epysode (featuring Mike Lepond of Symphony X, Simone Mularoni of DGM, and Tom Englund of Evergrey among others). In 2021, she partnered up with four other stunning lead vocalists in the pop metal outfit Venus 5, whose self-titled debut album was released in June 2022.  Jan Åkesson started out as a songwriter while also appearing as lead guitarist in several bands, before he decided to step back from the live scene to focus on writing and producing songs. He started the band StoneLake, who released seven studio albums, while at the same time writing songs for other artists around the world, all who were performing different styles of music. In 2017, he also released the album ”Ascension” by his solo project Shadow Rain.  The band’s music is extremely tasteful, and the listeners will enjoy very good moments with songs as “I Feel Alive” (a modern feeling similar to what can be found on AMARANTHE’s works, but with precious melodies and great vocals), the 80’s hooking melodies of “Infinite & Divine” and “Not Too Late”, the melodic Hard Rock appeal shown on “Wasteland” and “We Are One”, the tender and precious harmonies of “You and I” and “While You’re Looking for Love” (this one has the same appeal of heavier songs of DEF LEPPARD’s “Hysteria”) are the ones to become the favorite tracks for the fans. But the entire album is great, so enjoy it. - Metal Temple “Silver Lining” runs the proverbial gamut, touching upon a bevy of metal subgenres while delivering consistently memorable riffs and some pretty impressive lead work. For her part, Persson's vocals elevate much of the material here, adding a soulful, 'human' quality.... - Sonic Perspectives ‘Silver Lining’ is an absolute powerhouse of an album and well worth a listen. - Metal Planet Music Tracklisting:1.
