Need help from Canadian forum members..

Recommended Posts

Hey guys , I was hoping maybe Tony (koogles) or a few of our other Canuck friends from the north could help me with something.

It appears there is going to be a massive 80s Rock festival in North Dakota in July 2010 near the Canadian border. I am booking some bands for the fest and noticed that the closest Canadian city is Winnipeg.

What I'd like to know is what 80s Rock / Metal / AOR bands are from Winnipeg?? Can be big or small.

Thanks for any help.

Sam

Hey Sam:

The obvious local Winnipeg bands (and I believe all 3 are still within the city limits) are Harlequin, Chris Burke Gaffney and Orphan/The Pumps/Deadbeat Honeymooners and Kenny Shields/Streetheart.

Quota, Lenita Erickson, and White Heat had Winnipeg ties at one time but haven't been heard locally for years.

Robin Black of the Intergalactic Rock Stars was born here (at least within an hour of the city) and played with the Ballroom Zombies here locally for years. He's been in town recently fighting in several local mixed martial arts shows but I think he's still based out of Toronto.

I'll give the old brain the once over and see if I can shake out a few more names.

What's the name of the rock fest in North Dakota? Any rumours as to who might be playing there next July? Winnipeg is but an hour away from the North Dakota border so this one is practically playing in my backyard and I missed Danger Danger at Rocklahoma this summer. Nudge Nudge. Wink. Wink.

And if you read this; what are the chances of Retrospect doing a legit release of Blackfish's second album.

Take care.

Streetheart and Harlequin would be cool. Thunder Mountain Rock Fest is July 2010. It's gonna be a killer fest I think. Just lookin for more Canadian acts.

Blackfish would be great but I don't have contact info for them.

Thanks for your assistance!

    • Ok, lets put this into perspective as to how overpriced this is. Queen (a much bigger band) has announced the reissue of their debut album. It comes in multiple formats to suit every pocket. The ultra special edition has six CDs and one LP. It has everything from remixes, remasters and live tracks to unreleased stuff. What are they asking for this? £150... thats £30 less than the shit Crue is putting out. Motley are my fave band, but I aint about to be arse fucked by them with crap like this. https://queenonlinestore.com/collections/queen-1?utm_source=Original&utm_campaign=Queen20240905&utm_medium=direct&utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.queenonline.com%2F&utm_board=queen&utm_country=GB&utm_linkurl=Queen.lnk.to%2FQueenI&lf=68ca40ef890f7402b64fa76a96b2fc0d
    • I have learned not to assume these kinda releases are stand alone so I won't be buying the digital single, that's for sure. Been bitten with that one before. And if it does end up being standalone, well the digital single will still be available later. I don't like buying anything digitally, so only do it when there is no other choice.
    • Fairh In You - Jack Russell
    • Eclipse played that same game when Apocalypse Blues came out.  They dropped that song as just a single and made no mention of an album at that point as far as I remember.  All they were doing was selling the 7 inch vinyl.  We know now though that they clearly knew a full album was coming as Erik said they basically were working on both albums at the same time and deciding which tracks would go on each album.  Granted, maybe they didn't know the full timing of album #2 at that point but they certainly knew one was coming. Maybe the same here.  Maybe will trickle out a few songs and then announce an album later this year or early next year when it's closer to release.
    • So, Danny posted how the song is doing on Spotify and someone asked if this means a new album soon. Danny just made vague replies and said "well there will be more stuff coming soon"
    • Funnily enough, I read that this afternoon when I went to add the album to my collection on the main page. I got the European version which has two bonus tracks ... if you don't have them, you really aint missing anything
    • Faith in the Heartland-Journey
    • Created and Posted this video recently in order to promote Ryder SRIII a little more.  I love this song, one of my personal favs from the record.   Be careful viewing at work though (NSFW), just for a couple of images in the video.
    • Named my HH self after the song Auslander on the album Stain. Love that track. Really like the whole album. It's like Living Colour's "Slave to the Grind" or "Dog Eat Dog".
