Diffuser - hidden hair metal track on 'Injurylovemelody'

Hey guys, anyone know this band? They released two awesome albums back in 2001 and 2003 - 'Injurylovesmelody' and 'Making the grade' - both kick a heap of ass. I just read they have reformed and have a new album due out soon. Pretty excited about that, to be honest.

Are there any fans here of these guys? I'd call them modern rock, but with some of the most gigantic (and consistently gigantic) choruses you're every likely to hear. 'Loser of the year' is a long-time fave of mine, from their debut.

Questions:

Does anyone have their two albums when they were called Flu 13?

How awesome is the un-named hidden track on 'Injurylovesmelody' CD - A 100% "hair metal" ball curler with the lyrics, the vocals, the solo, the cheese... the song is so f*cking awesome. Anyone familiar with it?

"Hair metal" hidden track?! :o Bloody hell. I have the two releases (Making The Grade - Jap. version & Injurylovesmelody) but I haven't noticed (or it has slipped my mind) the hidden track. :anon:

Gotta dig this one out of the hiding-place and have a listen....

Oh man, you have to hear this song. Let me know how you go. It's about 10mins of silence before it starts, I think (very well hidden). But well worth it.

Also, just to let you know... if you ever entertained the possibility of tracking down their CDs when they were called Flu 13... DON'T!!!

They are horrible. Just stick to Diffuser. I heard they were back together and going to release a new album. I must follow up on that one. Great CDs.

FYI:

Diffuser has recently started recording the new album, posting this on their myspace:

“ Hello friends, long time no talk. I hope everything is well by you. We just wanted to give everyone an update that we are currently in the studio recording our next record. Things have been going great, and we're stoked for it. We just finished tracking drums and some guitars, and its been a blast. We will keep you updated...so for now, enjoy your holidays and stay safe! ”

:o How good was that?! Just finished listening to the hidden "hair-metal" track and it was rocking. Some Spinal Tapish moments on display but much better executed. And the lyrics! I laughed my ass off when I heard the lyrics. So cheesy. But in a good way :) Really enjoyed that one. Must hear it again. I just kept wondering if it really was a live song or if it was faked.

Excellent! :headbanger:

I hate really great hidden tracks... just for the fact you know you can't put them on your Ipod or compilation CDs. Butch Walker's 'Letters' also has a wonderful hidden track. And I believe Demon Drive's 'Heroes' has a gem too. Very frustrating. :(

Due to the huge involvement in this thread, I may as well mention that these guys actually released an album in 2008 (Yeah, I only just found out myself) called 'Sincerely, Wasting Away'. Just heard it yesterday and it ain't bad. I don't think it's going to be as good as the first 2 albums but the second song, 'Free' was really excellent, if nothing else. :)

    • New album 'Another World' out June 21. Press release: Atlantic was the brainchild of guitarist and songwriter Simon Harrison. Following a successful ghost-writing career and his bands Stranger and Wisht, Simon wanted to make an album in his favoured AOR/Melodic Rock genre. Heavily influenced by bands like Whitesnake, Journey, Bad English, FM and Dare he set about writing the songs that became the first album entitled ‘Power’. Atlantic was never supposed to be a long term band and following its worldwide release Simon moved on to other writing, recording, production and mix projects. In the late nineties Simon met Mark Grimmett. He recorded several songs with Mark over the following few years and they decided at some point they would make a record together. Fast forward to 2021 Mark was talking to Simon about writing and recording a new album. Originally entitled the MGB Band, work started in the fall of 2021 … By early 2022 they had written a number of songs and they both felt they would best suit a new album under the Atlantic banner. Several members of Grim Reaper were recruited to give the Album an edge, whilst retaining the essential melodic rock/Aor feel that is Atlantic. Mark Pullin, Julian D.Hill and Ian Nash were duly recruited into the band along with keyboardist Gareth David Noon from Serpentine .. The lineup was to change later in the project with Simon and Tim Bristow taking over the keyboard role and the addition of Nick Burr and Andy Margrett on lead guitar. Work continued over the next year and finally the production was completed in late 2023. Mark Pullin stepped up to mix the album after some unforeseen issues at Simon’s studio and it was completed in March 2024. Escape Music had re released the original Power album and were absolutely the first choice to work with on the new album. Their new album “Another World” will be released exclusively by Escape Music, exciting times. The band is: Simon Harrison – Guitars, Bass & Keyboards Mark Grimmett – Lead Vocals Mark Pullin – Drums, Backing Vocals Nick Burr – Lead Guitar Julian D.Hill – Bass Tim Bristow – Keyboards Gareth David Noon – Additional Keyboards / Andy Margrett – Additional Lead Guitar / Mark Pullin – Additional Lead Guitar All songs written by Simon Jewell-Harrison & Mark Grimmett Except * Co-Written by Tim Bristow. • Not a fan of Staind, but this song popped up in my YouTube feed and the lyrics just hit me right in the heart this morning.    Beautiful ballad in my opinion…
    • It's ok but at the same time not doing much for me.  To me this sounds like this could've been a modern Bon Jovi song.  If you're basically making music that sounds like Bon Jovi, why not just go back to Bon Jovi lol. As it is, Richie's solo stuff has never really grabbed me and don't see myself returning to this. Do plan to check out the Bon Jovi documentary on Hulu this weekend though
    • That chorus is much more melodic than I was expecting; not bad.
    • Heard this today. Awesome song. Huge chorus.
    • Safe, but a nice song.  Did they name their band after a random HEAT song?
    • Really good band, but haven't heard from them in an absolute age. Shame if all they're doing is a few covers.  The 'Bye bye bye' cover is killer.  'I want it that way' is a great song anyway, but their version is gold. Love that.  But just to prove you can't polish a dog turd, no one could make 'Thriller' sound listenable to me.  Amplified even more with 'Believer.' No Imagine Dragons song should ever be covered or allowed to be acknowledged that it was even actually recorded. Horrendous band and I hate the cover only a tiny bit less than the original, which is a tonne.
