  1. Just got my copy today from Metal Mayhem, 2 days after ordering.

This is an excellent reissue, other bands need to take notice because this is how its done. The music is killer, takes me back 15 years right away. I haven't found a bad song yet after a few spins. Definitely lives up to the hype.

Cheers to the band & to the detectives right here at HH for getting this project together!

:angryfire: I'm pissed! I ordered mine about five days ago and still don't have it. WTF!

  2. My God....you guys will come up with any excuse......??!!

My 6th grade nephew can read that description for that auction and see that it is a reissue from 2005.........

    Move on............ :gives:

Do you really think those people bidding $200 don't think it is an original? Do you truly think they are willing to pay that much money for a cdr? You may be aligned with Sam, but if you can honestly say that the bidders believe they are paying for a "reissue", then you are as screwed up as the bidders are. The language used in his description is meant to deceive. Mission accomplished!

I e-mailed Sam under a different name a while back on the Friction cd (because I didn't feel like starting a war with him). I asked him if the cd was a silver pressed original. He did say that it was not but it had been pressed at a plant with excellent artwork. I guess you could look at it either way. One side would be he is not exactly stating it in his auctions. The other side would be that at least he was honest with me in the e-mail. I feel bad for the bands if they are not seeing any money on these "reissues" & I would not pay a ton of money for these cd's. But honestly, if someone would silver press these cd's, I'd be hard pressed not to buy them. Beats the shit out of the prices the originals go for <_<

  3. SUNCITY RECORDS ANNOUNCE SWINGIN' NEW SIGNING:

Suncity Records are extremely proud to announce the signing of Swingin' Thing.

Swingin' Thing ruled the strip back in the hey day but never had the chance to get a full-length album out until now. Suncity Records are putting together 2 full-length albums that 'are bound to kick your butt'.

The label says: "These albums are the perfect glam CD's, written about fast cars, summertime girls, partying and just havin' a good time. This material is bound to lift your spirits."

Signed to a Japanese label in the early 90's called Monster Productions, Swingin' Thing found themselves touring throughout Japan and ultimately, that's where they enjoyed most of their success.

The tracks the label will be releasing will be straight from DAT tapes and will undergo the re-mastering process. These glamsters did most of their recordings at A&R studios is Hollywood, which is the reason the production is of excellent quality.

Back in 1998, indie label Bombastic Plastic released a self-titled album by The Things, which were the same band only they had a more punkish influence to their music. Chris Penketh, the guitarist from Swingin' Thing was telling me that they always wanted to be a punk band but changed their sound to fit in with the whole hard rock boom. The label continues: "But not here, no punk influences! Everything you could want in a band from the Sunset Strip, gang backing vocals run supreme, guitar chops Satriani would be proud of, great attitude on the vocal ala Vince Neil. These guys had everything Motley Crue had and more but as we all know, justice wasn't served back in the late 80's, early 90's."

Check out a few sound samples of what is to come: Hazy, Lazy, Crazy Daze Of Summer, Better Left Unsaid, Groove Of Love and Coconut Cream.

A couple more samples are online at the label website. Release date information and further updates when available.

  4. Meanstreak for me with Earthshaker a close 2nd.

Black Tiger has two of their best songs in "Open Fire" & "Forever", but not as complete a release as the above 2 IMO.

The newer stuff got way too commercialized, mainstream, radio-friendly, etc. for my taste...

Curious why you left their first two(S/T & Struck Down) releases off the voting list JL - (?)

I was waiting for someone to ask that. The first two almost sound like a different band to me. I could have put them on here but they would not have been voted for too much I would guess. I do like the song alcohol though:)

  5. Meanstrak I hated

Not trying to start an argument, just curious as to why you hated that one. It was my introduction to Y&T so it's got a lot of nostalgia for me, but even without that I thought it kicked :butt:

Like I said just curious, not calling you out or anything. :D

I agree. This was ny intro to Y & T and I always thought it was better than the first two. Seems to have more of an edge.

    Just my .02

    JL

  6. My 4 favourite Y & T songs are 'This time', 'Come in from the rain', 'Don't be afraid of the dark' and 'She's gone'.

But I voted for 'Contagious' as it's the most consistent album and I believe there are only one or 2 fillers and a whole bunch of gems. Killer disc.

    Cheers,

    Geoff

    What filler????

'The kid goes crazy' and also not a huge fan of 'LA Rocks', but it's okay. :)

 What? Jez,I thought you were going to say the last song :anon:

  7. Tough one for sure.  Flipped a coin between Contagious and Ten.  Contagious won.....

Ten has more songs that I really like......but Contagious has "Eyes".....the song that REALLY got me into Y&T.

You and I are on the same page. Ten was next in my book and very close. But Contagious has Eyes of a Stranger which has THE best groove of any Y & T song ever. Not to mention it's a pretty damn sexy song.

  8. Just to update everyone.........Well it seems something i did got someones attention.....After all the jumping thru hoops, I filed and "Internet International Mail Fraud" complaint with ICFCC, well within 24 hours i was contacted by the ICFCC and gave them all the pertinent info........Approx. 6 hours later i receive and email from Paypal explaining they were contacted, now here is the funny part.......

"We do not understand why you would contact someone else regardling this issue, we are investigating it to the fullest"

Yeah right, investigating it to eventually say sorry you lost you money and your cd's.......So i figured i had pissed someone off at Paypal now, oh well.......Then i receive an email from this jackass in Italy saying that he was dropping the Paypal claim and had received his items......No shit, i already knew this....Apparently he was contacted via email by the ICFCC.....So then he has the nerve to ask if i will remove the negative feedback.....I did remove it, only to remove the negative he left for me off my account........But i did learn something, well besides never shipping outside the US again, If you have a problem, such as this, do what ever steps are necessary to cause the other person as much grief as possible.....It worked for me.......

    Later

    Lon

Congrats to you Lon. All that hard work paif off. I'm glad to see that somebody didn't get screwed by Paypal.

    JL

  9. Hey Lon,

Here's what I do when I ship. All US addresses have to be shipped registered. It's only like $.50. If it's outside the US use Global Priority. Most countries accept it and the tracking number on your receipt can be tracked at www.usglobal.com It's $5 for a small packet regardless of the country.

       I hope this helps.........

    JL

I think you mean "Delivery Confirmation." Registering a package is $7.50 in addition to postage. Also, in his case, since the buyer was in Italy, Delivery Confirmation is not an option, and PayPal does not consider a Registered Mail signature to be proof of delivery (why, I have no fucking idea).

    -Dan

Oops, yes I meant delivery confirmation for US only. For overseas use Global Priority. It gives you a tracking number that you can give to Paypal to prove you shipped the item. That's all Paypal is looking for essentially.

  10. Well i can tell you guys this much -- talking with Sam , he is letting me know that there are certain folks here at HH that he could give a "f**k less if they ever get a hold of his Retrospect label discs" - so some of you here on HH [and you know who you are] , i wouldn't count on ever being able to purchase any of these mega rarities directly from Sam or his website. Ain't gonna happen. I guess thats the beauty of owning your own business / label -- you sell your product how you want to who you want. If you don't like the way Sam runs his label and business ethics then move on and take your money elsewhere.

Right now Sam is starting off his auctions at 99 cents so you COULD actually get the cd BELOW COST.  He is offering that chance - which to me is an even better deal than doing $14.99 BIN's. I know Sam is doing some trial runs right now on his first pressings and doing what he can to recoop his initial costs but eventually i am sure the majority of these discs will be available for purchase thru the Retrospect website in a few months once all of the cd's are in.

These cd's are NOT being pressed in Russia [contrary to K.S.'s belief] and some of these recordings are even being remastered for superior sound quality!!

I knew it wouldn't take long before a thread would be run on Sam's label here on HH and the sour grapes just grow rampant here - which i expected.

    Nuff said for now.....

....once again showing that the music is not being put out for the fans...........when he can pick and choose who buys them. By the way, it wouldn't be that hard to obtain the cd's from him without him knowing it is someone on this site. :)

Like I said before, yes I am skeptical but I hope it is legit and I hope it succeeds....

    JL

  11. I think it's awesome that these discs are being released, BUT like I mentioned earlier, since they're official new releases, I want them to be sold at reasonable prices and not strictly by auctions on eBay.  I feel that's unfair to both the consumer AND the bands.  If and when they're available for general purchase, I'll be buying them all.  Until then, people can bid $50+ on the Friction CD on eBay, but it won't be me.

Agree 100%. Until these are available somewhere for outright purchase at an advertised flat rate price, it's the same old shit. It's not doing anyone any good except lining Sam's pockets at the expense of the fans.

If I start seeing them at NEH Records, or AOR Heaven, or Schmankerl, or Perris, or on Ebay with $14.99 BINs, then I'll retract the above.

Until then it smells like a rat.

    -Dan

"At the expense of the fans".....where are you when the many eBay sellers who have 50 or 100 copies of a certain bands cd and they only list 1 a month in their auctions.....or do their clandestine trades for high dollar cds when they, in fact, have a ton of copies?? I could name off many eBay sellers who do that...and I bet you could too.

Where are the people at when bands are selling their cds directly for big bucks when they have a ton of copies?? I didn't hear anyone bitching at Mark David from Concrete Jungle when he sold his own cds for $120 a piece. Or his CDR EP for $40. I don't hear anyone bitch when the guy from Mistress sells his cds on eBay for big bucks....or Sweet Teaze or the guy from Deja Vu who sold his for $100 a pop. I don't hear you smelling rats in those instances....

I guess the only way most of you will think anything is legit is if the band's contract is posted for all of you to see so that all of the selective 'sheriff's' will make sure they're getting their due, eh?? One of the very moderators of this message board has been in contact from one of the guys in Alyze and knows that Retrospect is legit and so are the Alyze releases....but I guess that is just not enough for some.

While I agree that a common price should be the 'way to go', I find it interesting that if the auctioned cds only go for $9 that that would upset you. And after checking on his auctions, that just may be the case.

I mean....Delbert, PJ and many other sellers often use the phrase, 'let the market determine what the value of a cd is".....and I don't hear any complaining.

And, let me reiterate...that, I too, would like to see a common fixed price for his releases. And I'll venture a guess that once everything is up and running that you will.....but...if not, then whoever doesn't like what he's doing will do without. And if his business suffers...then it will have been of his own valition.

But the other people who do it aren't claiming that they are bringing rock back to the people and so on and so forth. If you are starting a label to bring back or release previously unreleased material, why would you put it up for auction? :huhsign:

  12. I know Sam and I know Joe well.

Joe helped me out getting my Record Label up and running and I can't thank him enough for that!!  I just have a few issues with the way Sam does business fo example:  He re-issues these great cd's without telling the bands and once the bands find out and approach him he then starts giving them royalties.  I would have thought you would approach the bands first??  He also sells his cd's without telling the fans that they are really re-issues.

I like these cd's as much as anyone including you James, but I'm running my business totally above board so I would have thought I could bring this issue to the table.

By the way no it all, Retrospect Records are NOT my competitor.  He is doing re-issues and I'm releasing un-released material.

Get a clue James before opening your mouth!!

And how would you know if Sam just plans on doing re-issues...? You just may be surprised what Sam has in store... Just wait and see....

Because LV...these Australian guys are psychic!

The simple fact of the matter is...that Retrospect is going to release new issues...re-issues...and very possibly, new complete albums by bands....

Like I always say.....the 'proof is in the pudding'......and what's that other common saying....oh yeah...'actions speak louder than words'...... :)

Well, no offense to either of you but we have not heard ANYTHING from either company. Sure Sam has a couple up for auction but when will we be able to purchase these cd's at a reasonable price from a website other than Ebay?

Don't get me wrong because I hope both companies succeed because it's all good things for the hard rock comm. But if proof is in the pudding I'm on a diet because I haven't seen or heard or been able to purchase anything from either person.

    Time will tell I suppose...

  13. Hi,

just a quick update on the RETROSPECT label and my brother's involvement in the company. Sam has in fact bought out the label and is president of it. He is scheduling to release over 100 of the rarest AOR, hard rock and metal cd's in these first 3 months with many many more to come. Some of these will no doubt be very limited edition pressings and will only be exclusively available thru him. Although I will possibly be listing some of these in my ebay auctions in the future also. Some of the titles will literally blow you away as some of these have never ever been released on cd before and some you would never thought you would see on cd again!!

This is the beginning of something very exciting -- and will allow rock and metal fans worldwide to hear some of this rare awesome music for the first time.

On a side note I hope to be doing some other rare AOR re-releases in the near future including stuff like All Sports Band, American Noise, Avion and others...

    Keep it rockin'!!

    Recordjnky [Dan]

    --ISA. 38:20--

So assuming everything's legit, when and where can any of these be purchased?

    Thanks

    JL

  14. Most of my rare stuff is on vinyl (or was, I recently sold Diamond Head - Lightning to the nations signed by the full band original private pressing for £150 and I got it for free plus Wnters Reign - the beginning CD I picked up for £15 very very recently and sold it on for £70).

I had a quick look at my CD'S and there's bits and bobs that I think would sell easy for more than I paid (original ArcAngel ...Angel e.t.c.)but I really don't pay such close attention as most of them I would never sell anyway. The ones I know would go for a fair bit after a quick look..

Aerosmith - Basico (5 track live E.P. released Spain only with initial copies of Big Ones...unreleased live tracks done for a radio station) £5 ebay seen it go for £50+ on occassion.

Ship of Fools -  Forget the World/Out There Somewhere cost £25 probably get around £70

    Porcupine Tree - XM (1.2 ) cost £12 go for around £50++

    Porcupine Tree - XM2 cost £14 - watch it's price rise

Barbieri/Bowness - Flame cost £13 have no idea ... silly money to the right person.

Device - 22b3 original Chrysalis issue bought for £13 maybe ... dunno as it has been rerelased on another label since

UFO - Werewolves of London getting very hard to find seen it go for £40 cost me 11.99 when it came out.

UFO - Regenerator varies I sold a spare unopened copy for £35 but again around £12 when bought.

Vain - No Respect original Island release

John Waite - Mask of Smiles original EMI Japan release used to go for dumb money on ebay ...BUT YOU CANNOT SELL CLASS!!!!

Head East - A Different Kind of Crazy £15.99 probably go for around £30 - £40

Icon - An Even More Perfect Union signed by Dan Wexler...dunno how much it would go for

Beatnik Beatch - s/t (pre Jellyfish band) cost £7 get around £30 for the CD but I have the original At the Zula Pool on Vinyl on Industrial records and blue vinyl and apparently that's worth quite a bit.

No-Man - Lovesighs/Love Blows and Love Cries (2 on 1) £13 probably nearing the £40 mark on ebay

Ozric Tentacles - Ethereal Ceral Box set - cost £40 probaly go for between £70 - £100+

Aerosmith - Pandora's Toys ltd wooden case edition..dunno seen it at eil.com for £150 but probably cheaper on the Bay.

Continuum - s/t Steven Wilson out of P.Tree/No - man anything related to him especially ltd editions like this (1000 copies) go thru the roof.

A quick look ... not definative and another long boring post from yours truly

Hey Nick, you Icon cd goes for $40-$50 on Ebay. Worth keeping instead, I think. Good stuff.......

  15. This will be tough since about half of my collection could be considered rare by most. Here it goes anyway.....In no particular order,

    1. Keel - The Right To Rock (Original release from Japan)

    2. Stryper - The Yellow & Black Attack (Original Release From Japan w/ Winter Wonderland & a different cover)

    3. Child's Play - Long Way

    4. The First Three Hurricane cd's Japan w/ OBI's

    5. Icon - Right Between the Eyes (Japan w/ obi)

    Just to name a few.
