  1. This cd is very good...not quite the quality of Daughtry but has a ton of melody & heart. If you really want an awesome David Cook cd, check out Analog Heart. Top notch!

Sorry mate, can't agree. Listened to this this morning and imo it's just average modern rock like Lifehouse and Fuel. The song 'Porcelain' was my pick but the rest were again, just all slow tempo modern rockers. I really can't dig that sound at all. I think his new album, despite also being very slow in pace, has a lot stronger songs. That said, for what it is it's not bad. Can see how it appeals to Pop Evil fans. :)

Lifehouse & especially Fuel are very good modern rock bands. The two songs after Porcelain are excellent along with that mentioned track. I prefer it to the new one because of all the ballads. Not to mention Analog Heart was all David Cook...before anyone knew anything about him. I'll take it any day over the new one...and I'll take Pop Evil over both ;)

  2. This year has turned out exceptionally with respect to music releases. Making my Top 5 list is going to be excruciating. CDs that I thought for sure would be in contention back in June now won't make the list.

And it's not just traditional hard rock/AOR (Journey, Jimi Jamison, Rockarma, Marcello-Vestry, AC/DC) that have had stellar releases, but so-called "modern" hard rock has some REAL gems (Shinedown, Hinder, Nickelback). The only modern hard rock release that people have been talking about that I consider to have been a waste of money is Disciple - Southern Hospitality. Does absolutely NOTHING for me. Unlistenable to my ears.

I've been meaning to ask how you went with that Disturbed CD. I notice it's not mentioned there but I remember you going wild about it when it was released. Did it fade for you too? I remember thinking it was okay-ish on first listen but I didn't play past the third or fourth song last time. Never been a fan of Disturbed. :(

As for the Disciple comments... I agree with Glen. You heathen!

It's still way up there for me. The only problem is that I went through a few weeks during the summer where I pretty much listened to it to death... over and over and over... which burned me out a bit, so I've deliberately NOT been listening to it and will revisit the disc before making my list.

I seriously don't know how I'm going to trim down and rank 5 CDs for the year. Ack!

Wes and I were talking about that earlier...it's going to be nearly impossible to select a top five this year :(

  3. Being the fan I am - I am more likely to accept the change on this album. Wasnt what I expected though. At times I wasnt sure if Axel was singing or a band member. Chinese Democracy sounds to me like the old GNR but after that it changes big time

    Favorite Song - Sorry

Worst a few but I am hoping after a few spins it will grow on me.

I thought the music was Excellent and the special effects(you all call them something different).

Ive never seen a cd where so many of the songs were half good and half bad

Interesting note on the song Madagascar. I have the bootleg from way back when. Id rather listen to the bootleg than that version on the cd - Piss poor indeed.

Production on cd seems very good.

Anyone notice how much Axel voice has changed?

Since they decided to sell only at best buy which I think was a huge mistake I will have to wait to get the cd. Down here in Hick country we dont have a best buy for 80 miles.

My favorite song or at least the one I can't get out of my head is Better. But I like the whole cd. I'm not hearing what you are hearing about Madagascar or his voice even. I thought for the style of singing he does and the length of time since the last album he sounds awesome!

  4. I dedicate this week and the name of my team to Mr. Michael Turner! Thank you kind sir.

Michael Turner has told me personally that he is going to send me out of my last season in the HH league 2-0 with two rings! Thank you kind sir...but watch out for Brees :(

  5. and how many of those 6,723,867,928 are rock fans?

After conducting very thorough and exhausting research into that question, using the finest polling and investigative techniques at my disposal (bearing in mind I had to perform this task overnight in many languages (mostly via phone - and who's going to pay THAT long distance bill, I might ask?), I've been able to arrive at the definitive conclusion that I don't have a fucking clue as to how many of those 6,723,867,928 people are, in fact, rock fans.

I don't think anyone knows what you're saying...:)

  6. All of you are out of your mind.

I (blah) see... Thank you for (blah) explaining mental illness to (blah) me. Are there enough (blah blah) rooms in all the global insane (blah) asylums to house the estimated 6,723,867,928 other (blah blah blah) people in the world, who (blah) DON'T think the sun shines out (blah) Axl Rose's ass? Blah blah... Blah blah blah, blah blah. Oh, yeah - one last thing - blah.

I'm sorry, did you get offended? What's that? Blah Blah Blah? Oh okay.

  7. All of you are out of your mind. All GNR albums were good, even the covers album. Why anyone would bag on the music just because he's a dickhead is beyond me. There's about 10 million people out there that have supported them and still do because their music is killer.

Say what you want but all I hear is blah blah blah... :)

  8. I saw Marc Ferrari earlier this year guest with Black N Blue here in Portland, Oregon. The dude can still SHRED, but he looks more like an IBM executive than an 80's rocker now-a-days :cartman:

I've been a fan of Keel dating back to like 1984, so of course I'm looking forward to this!

Well shit I live near Portland and I missed this.. Damnit.... :hammer:

But I am looking forward to hearing anything new from Keel.. Been a fan for about 20 years.. Thanks to My man Keith of course.... :headbanger:

Black N' Blue is playing at Dante's in downtown Portland December 20th. in case you're interested. I wouldn't miss this one for anything... I've been told they are going to unleash songs from HELL YEAH!

I hope they unleash something other than the three I have heard which was shite. I wonder if this is ever going to come out?

  9. I had no idea that was out. I guess it would be cool to hear the unreleased stuff but I have the live album so I have no interest in hearing more live stuff.

I think the live album is different than the one they released before though. It's a two cd set so it should be pretty cool.

  10. Okay, so I'm listening to the AUTHENTIC version right....I am going to say this and everyone can hate on it when they hear it, but this cd is so much better than what I was expecting. A lot of the songs could have been on Illusions....I am going to say that if you liked the Illusions albums, you will like this. There is some modern stuff on here but it stays closer to Illusions. Same over the top production as Illusions and all.

I hope everyone gives it a chance because it's very good.

I posted my thoughts in the first spin impressions thread but I agree with the above statement to a point.

One song sounds very similar to "November Rain" another is close to "Breakdown" while another has that same kind of funky sound of "Pretty Tied Up". And I'll say it again if your looking for Appetite then look elsewhere.

Anyone who was expecting Appetite hasn't followed the band since 1987 :) That's not going to happen again...a very special place in time. This is a great follow up cd to the Illusion records though.

  11. I loved both of his solo albums equally so I'll be picking it up!

I'd love to hear some new stuff too and I did enjoy most of the second release but it paled in comparison to the awesome "Exposed" disc IMO.

I don't compare them because they are so different. I love the melodicness of Exposed but love the ballz of Carved in Stone. Not to mention the guitarist smokes! I believe the guy who played on Wildside's Under the Influence?

    Yes that was Brent Woods.

The lyrics were just so dark and the scratching on Breakin the Gun really threw me off at first.

Yep that's it, from Wildside. I really love this cd and I liked it from the beginning. Geoff, I didn't figure you would care for it. You might spin it again just to be safe though ;)
