Pressrelease from Frontiers Records:

Scheduled for release on Frontiers Records on March 21st (Europe); and March 25th (North America), the album will be available in two configurations: a standard CD and a Deluxe Edition, that will include two bonus tracks and a DVD containing the “Valkyrie” music video, a promotional film, and footage of classic live ASIA tracks such as “Heat of the Moment,” recorded with the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra in Bulgaria.

From the title track, Gravitas, which chronicles a man's struggle in the battlefield of life, to the powerfully compelling tale of unrequited love, "The Closer I Get To You," the album is a tour de force for the band whose music has become a staple to rock fans.

“Pure, unadulterated and stereotypical ASIA, with raw energy, enthusiasm and free from impurities,” says John Wetton. “It conveys the spectrum of emotion and colour from real life agonies to ecstatic fantasy of escapism. Great songs, fabulous performance. 'Gravitas' is ASIA by ASIA. At last.”

"With the addition of Sam it allowed us to take the band in a slightly different, and perhaps tougher, direction,” says Carl Palmer. “As a band we have been able to grow, while at the same time, remain true to the classic ASIA sound that our fans know and love."

Asia’s debut album exploded onto the music scene in April,1982, and was the best selling album in the world of that year. Featuring Geoff Downes on keyboards; Steve Howe on guitar; Carl Palmer on drums; and John Wetton on lead vocal and bass; Asia was the logical successor to their collective bands of the 70s - Yes, ELP, King Crimson, UK, and The Buggles. The original ASIA reformed in 2006 for the first time in 23 years.

“It always was a great live band, but this time the dragon has awakened with fresh energy, direction and purpose,” says Wetton. "As with any new Asia album, putting it all together presents something of a challenge,” says Geoff Downes. “Everyone involved rose way above and beyond this challenge. There is a renewed energy when we step on stage now; we can feel it and I know the fans can feel it.”

For ASIA's long-devoted fans, the band’s return to the concert stage can not come soon enough. As Palmer says: "Performing on stage is where this band truly comes into its element. Seeing the fans reacting to our music is what makes it all worthwhile. It is the fuel that drives this train we call ASIA."

Since reforming, the trio of studio discs they have released have been pretty damned good, so i'm looking forward to this one. Be interesting to hear what the new guitarist brings to the fold

This is another a typical Asia album, so if you liked the previous stuff, you can buy blind. Some nice songs, good solid production, I quite like the new guitar player too, adds something to the sound, although, as with previous releases, it could do with a bit more fire in it's belly. Very enjoyable disc for me though.

    • Yep, this is a mighty fine album. Wasn't even going to match the debut, but it's very nice. A lot of fine, quality tunes, but if I had to pick a favourite I believe it'd be 'Nothing Left For Us.'
    • Anyone check out their album released earlier this year? Simple Plan     -    Harder Than It Looks 1    .    Wake Me Up (When This Nightmare’s Over) 2    .    Ruin My Life (feat. Deryck Whibley) 3    .    The Antidote 4    .    Million Pictures of You 5    .    Anxiety 6    .    Congratulations 7    .    Iconic 8    .    Best Day of My Life 9    .    Slow Motion 10    .    Two If you liked them before you'll undoubtedly like this one as it's very much Simple Plan. I enjoy.  The clear stand-out for me is this teen anthem that 13 year old Georgia would crank in (one of) her bedroom(s) with tears in her eyes, but it also hits a spot on the other side of the equation. Pretty silly when it's such a teeny written anthem, but not every song that hits a spot needs to be orchestrated by Picasso, I guess. lol.
    • Just bought it recently. Waiting for it to arrive to give it a good listen.
    • Bit of a creeper this album, but I dig. Just did a quick little read-up on these guys on wikipedia and seems like there's an interesting history. I knew them from way back when then they released two very solid but pretty unspectacular albums in 2005 and 2007, and then went silent and I kind of forgot about them. Seems like a bit happened in those years, including their lead vocalist passing in 2014 (R.I.P). Also, possibly of interest, Don Vedda played in this band from 2019-2020.  This new album has actually been released without a lead vocalist in the band, but a host of guest vocalists on every track. Amazingly, it flows very well. The style is more mellow, and I must say, preferable to me. As noted at the start, the songs are instantly nice, but really grow and they're some of my favourites of the year so far now.  Scary Kids Scaring Kids     -    Out of Light 1    .    Nightmare (feat. Spencer Charnas) 2    .    The Dark (feat. Noah Sebastian) 3    .    To the Unknown (feat. Vaines) 4    .    Until You Come Back (feat. Matt Macdonald) 5    .    Knock It All Down (feat. Lil Lotus) 6    .    New Morning (feat. Cove Reber) 7    .    Omens (feat. Spencer Chamberlain) 8    .    Black Hole (feat. Donovan Melero) 9    .    I Wanna Know (feat. Jesse Cash) 10    .    Escape from My Reality (feat. MOD SUN) 11    .    Endlessly Yours (feat. Tyler Posey, Phem) 12    .    For Atlas (feat. Michael Swank)
    • Another one I'm sure I've gone on about in the past, but apparently no thread yet.  He doesn't seem to make a lot of music, but when he does it is awesome. Such as this... Paul Bartolome     -    Reflections, Pt.1 1    .    Fractures (feat. Dave Escamilla) 2    .    Anxiety (U Just Don't Get It) 3    .    While We're Still Young 4    .    Burn It Down (feat. David Bartolome) 5    .    Hypocrite   Easily one of the best songs of the year so far-       From the previously very awesome 'Screaming through the radio' EP-
    • I know I've posted about this hombre several times before, but apparently not in his own thread. This must change as I find him to be so awesome but no one seems to acknowledge his existence. Not just here, but his youtube channel and reach seems to be so small. Crazy for someone who produces bone crunching quality on a madly consistent basis.  Eric Dalton     -    Playing Favorites (2022) 1    .    Calling Card 2    .    Oblivion 3    .    Head in the Clouds 4    .    X My Heart 5    .    Infection 6    .    My Demons 7    .    Solace 8    .    A Part of Me 9    .    Without You 10    .    Deception     Sorry, I know I've posted this before, but his youtube channel features all three of his (excellent) albums in full if interest permits. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb2I3-4_UvFnWWTcXBBLPYA
    • Interesting what bands catch on this forum and the ones that don't. To me, this is a pretty good band and I'm a bit surprised, on a forum where bands like Shiraz Lane and Bad City are appreciated, there seems to be no interest in these guys. Good band that does, for whatever reason, remind me of the likes of the aforementioned Bad City.  There's a bit of hit and miss about the debut and it's far from perfect, but a pretty cool band worthy of mention and interest on a forum such as this.  Anyway, this was one of my favourites of the album- For die-hards, I stumbled across this non-album track.
    • New video for 'I Will Be Stronger' feat. Joel Hoekstra.
    • Very nice piece of modern rock on offer here. Lot to like on this one.  Fame on Fire     -    Welcome to the Chaos 1    .    Intro 2    .    Welcome to the Chaos (feat. Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills) 3    .    Ketamine 4    .    Cut Throat 5    .    Emo Shit (feat. Kody Lavigne) 6    .    Lost In Doubt 7    .    Robbery 8    .    Signs 9    .    Plastic Heart 10    .    Rotting Away 11    .    Back Then 12    .    Jaded 13    .    Dead or Alive
