I like the songs that leaked but it's really an Axl Rose solo project. How he can call it GNR I don't know.
My sentiments exactly. The songs sound OK (nothing spectacular) but they sure as hell don't sound like GNR.

"To Hell With the Devil" was my introduction to Stryper and remains my favorite and most-played to this day. I still remember the "controversy" this album caused in my Christian school, between the "swearing" of the album title and the original "banned" angel cover...not to mention the "unholiness" of the music itself.

...sure enough I finally get to the beach today and my penis is bigger than any fucking wave out there.
So you're saying the fucking waves were only an inch high??

I know...that this...is...an awesome song....thanks for introducing me to Kix.
Dude, seriously? You'd never heard Kix?? First Skid Row, now Kix...how the hell do you live with yourself?

A 3rd cut off of TALON: "Fallen Angel" is now up on www.melodicrock.com. Check it out!
Now let's hear some feedback on the 3rd cut, "What About Me."
Again, pristine production, but the song leaves me underwhelmed. Just something about this release isn't grabbing me, and I still think it's a pretty standard offering in the melodic hard rock genre, the sort of thing we've heard done thousands of times before. Or maybe I just lean toward the heavier, more aggressive side of the genre and this slick, straight-forward sound just doesn't appeal to me and therefore I should shut my mouth (I heard that, Pete!).
Sorry, John (and the band), while I think plenty of folks 'round these parts will enjoy this, it's just not clicking with me.

Latest acquisitions...
Trivium: "Shogun" (really good)
Tesla: "Forever More" (excellent)
TRIVIUM > TESLA
Ummmm...no. But that's not to say the Trivium isn't really good, 'cause it is.

SCARECROWS (Unrated)--saw this overlooked 80s horror flick way back when, but had to pick it up again to check out the uncut/unrated edition, which definitely brings extra gore to the table. Unfortunately, the pacing is still numbingly terrible, with very little happening until the hour mark, at which point the titular scarecrows go on their violent rampage. Gotta give the movie props, though, 'cause the scarecrow effects are downright creepy.

...it's fucking awesome to have people behind you!
...except in the prison shower.
Well, as the convicts here at the Federal joint at which I work like to say, "You don't know what you're missin' until you've had sex in prison." (OK, so it's not a perfect rhyme, but what do you want from a bunch of half-retarded kiddie-touchin' drug dealin' gangbangers?)

Here is the preorder Disciple info for those interested:
Release date is October 21st.
You can check out the first 2 songs on their site. Sounds like they're gonna rip out another good release. Let the countdown begin.
Holy Stanley Steamer, those 2 tracks are truly excellent. "321" is a monster hard rocker and the ballad (can't recall the name right now) is really good too. Loved this band from the beginning and they just keep getting better and better.

These have been getting some serious spin-time in the stereo lately:
Metallica: "Death Magnetic"
Madhouse: s/t
Kutless: "Strong Tower"
Testament: "Formation of Damnation"
Blessed by a Broken Heart: "Pedal to the Metal"

Picked this up at a used CD shop recently for $7 and was pleasantly surprised. No, it doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it does serve up some pretty good modern hard rock. Not on the same level as the latest Theory of a Deadman or Shinedown, mind you, but still plenty solid enough to earn a spot in my collection. While some songs are better than others, there's not a single track on here that makes me reach for the Skip button. Consistently good from start to finish...unlike Geoff's lovemaking abilities...or so Matt told me.

The title track to TALON's new release has now been added to the bands Myspace page......let the feedback start flying!!

Thank you.
John
Since I know John to be a person who appreciates both positive and negative feedback, I'll offer both. On the positive side, the production is much improved over the band's debut, and while the old singer was good, so is the new vocalist. On the negative side, as I listened to this new song, I couldn't help but think I've heard this sort of thing done thousands of times in the melodic hard rock genre. I know, I know, sameness isn't necessarily a bad thing in our beloved musical genre, but for me, the "been there, heard that" vibe was a little overwhelming, which in turn left me a little underwhelmed by what I was hearing.
No offense to all parties involved.

Huh. Somehow I missed this poll back in the day. Probably because it was started by Geoff and I pretty much ignore anything that is spawned from his evil, evil mind.
Anyhoo...I voted for "One Step From Paradise," but I easily could have picked "Bang Bang." Great songs on a great debut from a great band.

Decyfer Down: "End of the Grey" was one of my favorite Christian hard rock/metal albums of 2006, and now they have a new CD ("Crash") coming out in early '09. You can hear one new song on their MySpace page (Decyfer Down Myspace Page) and it sounds pretty darn good.
I love this band...consider me stoked!!!

New X-Sinner tracks from the final mix, sounds pretty good.

Eh, I'm not really feeling these new songs. Nothing bad, but nothing great either, and certainly not even close to being on par with "Get It" or "Peace Treaty." Maybe the Elefante brothers really were the so-called "x-factor" that made X-Sinner sound so good back in the day...

THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2 (Unrated)--not nearly as good as the first one (the remake, I mean), but what it lacks in the tension department it heartily makes up for in the gore quotient. This sucker was wet and red and this sick puppy enjoyed just about every minute of it.
Used to watch all these kind of blood and gore movies back in the 80s but as I've got older, I've got very squeamish and cannot stomach watching them!
Remember the original though, with the weird looking Michael Berryman! (I think that was his name).
See, the older I get, the gorier I like my films. Seriously, I wasn't all that much into horror flicks back as a teenager, but now that I'm an adult (or, uh, so they've told me), I like hardcore horror movies, the bloodier the better.

Finally got my hands on this one and am quite glad I did. A strange yet intoxicating hybrid of hair-metal and metal-core, or "hair-core," as one review dubbed it. Some of the keys are too over-the-top for my taste, but they're pummeled into submission by the heavy guitars and screaming vocals, and there's simply no denying the utter catchiness of the album. Granted, this ain't for everyone, but some of us here who dabble in the modern metal genre should appreciate it. I know I'll be spinning it quite a bit in the days to come. "Show Me What You Got" is already stuck in my head like a wad of taffy stuck to the bottom of my shoe.

Finally got around to checking out this new song and damn, it sounds good. Give me an album full of tunes like that and I'll be happier than Geoff on a sleepover at the Playboy Mansion.

THE RUINS (Unrated)--saw this in theaters and thought it was a pretty good horror movie. Takes a lot to make me squirm, but the amputation scene did just that. Haven't watched this unrated version yet, but looking forward to the extra snippets of gore.
What DVD's did you buy this week?
in Dumpster Diving

THE GUARD POST--Korean horror/thriller from the director of "R-Point." Wouldn't normally have ordered this, but the trailer looked pretty cool and reviews indicate it brings the gore, which is always a plus in my book. Haven't had a chance to watch it yet, though, so I can't say if it's any good or not.
