On I married S. Bach on Vh1, he said the band wrote the music for the whole next lp and just dropped it off to him to write the lyrics, he got pissed and thought the band should be together during the process of writing both music and lyrics and that was the beginning of the end. Sounds like there's more than just any one reason he was kicked out/quit.
Bach hardly wrote any lyrics for any Skid Row album, did he? I thought he co-wrote about 2 or 3 on 'Slave to the grind' and a couple more on 'Subhuman race'... but that was about is, wasn't it? Wasn't it Bolan and Snake who did the majority of songwriting?
I also quite like 'Subhuman race'. IMO, by far their weakest disc because it sounds like such a HUGE step back musically... but songs like 'Breakin' down' (one of my faves ever!), 'Into another' and 'Eileen' are great. The rest, like 'My enemy' and stuff is pretty cool if in the right mood.
Come on now Geoff. You can say you don't like it as much as the others but to say it's musically a step back is crazy. It is miles ahead of the others as far as that goes...

No way mate... sorry, but I really disagree with you there. I'm not a dashing musician myself so cannot comment on fact, but to me I was stricken by how good 'Slave to the grind' is. Heavy, melodic, awesome riffs and musical arrangements, plus that killer production. (I also love the debut too).
But, to me, even though I like the disc, 'Subhuman race' sounded a lot, sloppier, for want of a better word. The guitar was nowhere near as melodic, or well-played, IMO. More downtuned riffage and playing, without the "fancy" work of earlier albums. The vocals were not even on the same wavelength as the first 2 (though I still love Bach's vocie on it) and the overall sound and production was more "muffled" and definately, IMO, a HUGE step back from 'Slave to the grind'.
Just my opinion, of course, mate.
Your opinion is always welcome brother...even if you are wrong
I just can't understand it I guess. To me, sonically this album sound wise was way ahead of the other two. I love Slave, and I see alot of similar things but I like the heaviness of Subhuman Race. I'll take the slow, heavy riffs as opposed to the candy-like debut anyday...let the slaying begin!

I like "Subhuman" as well but i have a major soft spot for Slave!! Pretty well the perfect album!! Da Skids at their best!! Later RW
