    HARD KNOX’S “PSYCO’S R US” SHIPPING NOW

    June 20, 2016

HK-promo-400x400.jpgWe are excited to finally announce the reissue of HARD KNOX mega rare Psyco’s R Us album this July. We started this in 2011 and this time has finally arrived for this once super rare album to be enjoyed by everyone!

Drawing from a wide range of influences that spanned from Led Zeppelin and Bad Company, to early AC/DC and the Scorpions, and even further to Fates Warning and Savatage; Salt Lake City, Utah’s HARD KNOX got its start when vocalist Therron Arrington and guitarist Chris Gigliotti began recording early tracks in—of all places—a closet in Chris’ mother’s house.

The quintet grew to achieve local notoriety—helped along by opening slots for acts like David Lee Roth, Great White, Mr. Big, Slaughter, and even Pantera (among many others)—but after interest from Atlantic Records failed to result in a suitable recording contract, HARD KNOX decided to strike out on their own to self-release a full-length album, Psyco’s R Us, in 1993. The 10-song release carried a sound representative of the changing landscape of hard rock at the time—Skid Row meets Mother Love Bone; or, as the band describes, equal parts Dirty Looks, Kix, and Alice in Chains. HARD KNOX promoted the album by plastering the town with full-size posters to support a continued onslaught of live gigs. However, the hard rockin’, hard partyin’ lifestyle eventually caught up with them, and the band self-destructed before they were able to capitalize on the momentum they had built.

Out of print for decades and now an increasingly rare collector’s item (once cited in VH1’s list of the “100 Rarest Hard Rock CDs”), original copies of the album have sold on eBay for astronomical prices of more than $300. After years of trying, Divebomb Records is now thrilled to finally present this deluxe reissue of Psyco’s R Us—including HARD KNOX’s original four-song demo (one track from which also appeared on KBER 101’s The Best of Rock From the Wasatch Front compilation CD)—fully remastered by Jamie King at The Basement Recording; and including a brand new interview with vocalist, Therron Arrington, alongside archival photographs. For the fans, by the fans!

  2. Many moons ago I'm pretty sure it was someone on here that sent me these CDs. I recall them just being thrown in as freebies.

They appear to be copies of 2 crystal pistol demos CDs.

I am trying to workout if these are copies of official legit demos, or just some fan made CDs.

And if the are copies of legit CDs, just wondering if it's possible to get my hands on the originals.

Any help from the original source or others appreciated.

  3. Sounds very nice, I'll definitely be getting this on CD if it comes out! So he's the singer?

    yeah, he's the singer.

He has recently released some new solo stuff he's been working on and just at the moment has a great deal going on his bandcamp page. (Note: I believe this solo cd is cdr). Its more modern a maybe a more melodic / possibly even experimental compared to the old stuff he has in the vaults. Check it out if you are interested:

downlaod the album for $AUD2 ($US1.50)

or buy the physical disc for $AUD7 ($US4-5) + shipping

  4. Hi Guys,

I was talking to an Australian artist who is looking to release some of his older material from back in the day. From what I have heard, the quality is excellent - some great sleazy influence hair metal. He has done a lot of work on the audio and it's fantastic sound quality.

But the guy has been completely out of the loop in terms of the music industry for many years.
(Put it this way, he threw away 50 copies of his bands vinyl becasue he thought no one would want it... not realising there is one on ebay with a $100 price tag...ouch!)

Anyway, he is unsure of the whole industry these days and is interested in peoples views on:

    1) the market for late 80s early 90s hard rock

    2) physical vs dowload

    3) cdr vs silver press

    4) indie release vs reissue label

    5) price

I told him I would get some feedback from his target maket which I guess is folks like yourselves, so if you could give some feedback on the above it would be most appreciated.

The responses I gave him were as follwos, but thats just 1 pair of eyes:

    1) the market for late 80s early 90s hard rock

Limited market, but there is definitely a market there for a good quality product

    2) physical vs download

I suggested both.... a good quality physical product for those who like a physical product, and a download if he desires. Silver press + booklet with photos and bio.

    3) cdr vs silver press

Silver, as cdr would limit his already limited audience by half again.

    4) indie release vs reissue label

seems content to do the lot himself which I said would be excellent. there would not be an issue selling an indie product if the word gets around as being a great quality product. personally i think indie is also a draw card to collectors.

    5) price

$15 for a good quality silver pressing.

  5. Im not going to make it either....

by the time I added up price of flights, transfers, accommodation, ticket, food/drink and a tiny bit of spending $ i'm gonna be up for $800.

    Hope it goes well.
