Agree on both counts.

Hinder is off my radar at this point....new stuff is doing nothing for me.

That said though, Take It To The Limit was a fantastic album...great modern melodic rock with a classic feel to it.

Very basic, average song. Does nothing for me at all.

 

If you have never checked out 'Take it to the limit' you are missing out on a seriously great hard rock album.

Not sure if that's correct but would be nice seeing an album coming out sooner than expected...It's usually the other way around

Just got a new email this morning stating it's back to the original release date.

 

I saw an interview with Chris and he said they already have enough songs written for the next CD

Have spent a ton of time with this album since it was released and it basically hasn't left my player.

Really digging it for what it is....basically just throwback melodic rock.

Highlights for me are Everything, Are You Sleeping Alone, True Believer. Also really like With Me Tonight as the guitar work and tempo of that song sorta give me a Def Leppard Hysteria type vibe. Really though, I pretty much enjoy the whole thing.

Sure, it's a tad long at 15 songs. But I saw an interview with them saying they basically just wanted to throw it all out there because they didn't know if they'd have the chance to do a second album....So I can respect that.

Still feeling like it's a pretty darn solid debut CD and I know I'd go see them live off this album if I had the opportunity

I don't think they were apart because they disliked each other or had a fallout. From everything I've seen on them, it was basically because their label dropped them and the musical landscape had changed at that time. I really just think they thought they were done and the demand for their music wasn't there and they went off and did other things.

Glad they got a second chance though. I really enjoyed their last album as it was just a fun does of melodic rock with lots of classic Def Leppard style harmonies.

And hearing the same type of thing in the newest single.

They formed in 1982/1984??? Wow, long time before they got their record deal.

 

Am I tripping, or are they all just glazing over the fact that they weren't actually together for about 12-14 years in the middle there? Or is it me who is missing something? There was no Trixter between 1995 to 2007 was there? You wouldn't guess that, listening to them all say how awesome it's been being together for 30 years, lol.

 

Anyway, new tracks sound really, really good. And it all sounds very well produced too. Loved hearing that that first single was actually written 25 years ago. That's the kind of shit I love. I wish all bands from this era were using songs they wrote 25 years ago, because there was a magic then that they have all lost now. This album is sounding like it might just present itself as a true contender.

Everything I've seen and heard about these guys over the years follows along with this...They're a close knit bunch that's just having a good time. These guys are one of my favorite sort of under appreciated/under-rated acts.

Really looking forward to this album.

I never cared much for H.e.a.t when Kenny was leading. Sure, there were a couple songs that I thought were okay but never heard enough to even convince me to buy their first two albums. Don't get me wrong, Kenny is a good signer but just something about him that didn't click for me. His voice is just too smooth or something. And personally, I always got like a .38 Special type of vibe from him. And it wasn't the songs because I like all the old songs when I hear Erik singing them.

Erik took H.e.at to a different level for me and they've went from off my radar to being one of my favorite bands. I just think he's the total package and you really can't ask for much more in a front man.

I pretty much agree with your list, although I don't care for The Reckoning and I'm lukewarm on What sober Couldn't Say. I'd probably put Sick Individual on the list though as I kinda like that song for some reason.

For me personally, the middle of the disc just falls apart and kills it. There's basically nothing between track 4 (Amen) and track 11 (Apocalyptic) that I find myself wanting to listen to.

I loved their last CD but not feeling this one. I was actually surprised I didn't like it as I liked the first few songs that were released and figured the rest of the album would follow suit. I actually already sold it on Ebay as I didn't see myself coming back to more than a couple songs.

Still a fan as they have a large body of work that I like but I'm not sure I like the commercialized, country/pop-rock direction they've seemed to take with much of this disc.

 

I still think for the most part it's shit. I think they could have made a pretty decent EP with these tunes:

 

1. I Am The Fire

2. Amen

3. The Reckoning

4. Apocalyptic

5. What Sober Couldn't Say

6. I Like It Heavy

7. Unapologetic

That would have been a decent disc, but I pretty much hate every other song on it (even in this list 'I am the fire,' 'Amen,' The Reckoning' and 'I like it heavy' are okay at best).

For me the track of the album by far is 'Unapologetic.' Which funnily enough is the last bonus track on the disc. But easily my favourite song on it.

Otherwise, I just don't like it and I think it's poorly produced for a band of their calibre. There are bands on budgets 1/100th of what these guys would have that sound far better this year...

This CD has really grown on me the second and third time through it. I mean, I liked it from the start but it's went to a different level after even more spins. As of now, I'd say it's my favorite debut CD in recent memory and I really might put this in my top 15-20 albums of the past 5-10 years if I were making a list.

I think part of it is just that I haven't heard a young band putting out something with such a cool retro feel to it in a long time and doing it without sounding like tryhard copycats. I suppose for me the closest comparison might be somebody like H.e.a.t....but I'm not sure if that's really a good comparison or not.

I just hear elements of various 80's bands in these guys. I hear elements of 80's era Bon Jovi, Leppard, Tesla, Winger, Trixter, Tyketto, etc. It's just melodic rock bliss to me and there is a good amount of variety within the 15 songs on the CD with everything from rock to mid tempo to ballads being covered. Normally I might say that 71 minutes and 15 songs is too much but I sorta appreciate that these guys have tossed it all out there.

Ordered the CD and got an immediate download, so had a quick spin today. Really good, 80's retro sound with a good production. At 15 tracks and over 70 minutes, lots to get your teeth into. Will report back once I've spun it a bit more

Have finally gotten the physical CD and able to listen to the songs with some better sound....

It's early yet....but don't see anything topping this as my debut of the year and should find itself squarely in my top 10 overall somewhere.

Cool throwback sound. Also doesn't hurt that they list Def Leppard as one of their musical influences on their FB page

I enjoyed their last album as I basically bought it with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. My expectations are higher this time around and this sounds like a pretty good start to my ears

Very impressed with these guys and it's been quite awhile since I've been so excited about a debut album. Can't wait for the physical CD and have a feeling it'll be getting a lot of play.

There is a definite late 80's style, rock vibe with these guys and something very refreshing about them

This won't be an easy point to get across, I fear, but I dig that song above. It's not the greatest song in the world, but it still has a really cool vibe. It sounds a lot more like a not-so-great song from the late 80's / early 90's, rather than one of the countless not-so-great songs you hear all day every day these days on new releases. Really digging the sounds/style/vibe of these guys.

I get you exactly and was thinking the same thing.

There's nothing overly special and "blow you away" about it. But what I like about these guys is just the simple, 80's/90's melodic rock vibe I'm getting from them without being copycat, try-hard posers. There's just something refreshing about them. And let's face it...There just don't seem to be many young, American bands putting out music like this.

I've seen a few different impressions of their album from different people and have heard a lot of positive responses. Although, they've not gotten very much attention on most sites I visit yet.

I've listened to the stream of this and was really looking forward to the album after hearing the 4 singles that had been released so far.

 

 

See, I was the exact opposite. I had completely lost any hope for this following those 4 super weak songs... and sadly, my fears turned out to be totally justified. Heard this today and for the most part, I actually really disliked it. There were maybe 4 or 5 decent tunes, with the best being 'Apocalypitica' and the dodgy ballad about saying what sober couldn't say. But they're not great songs, despite being my faves.

 

I liked their (mainstream) debut and despite being hugely underwhelmed by their average second disc, I thought I'll stick with them. But this album has definitely pushed these guys outside of my field of interest. It's just bad kind of radio modern rock; just not what I dig at all.

 

I guess to put it into perspective, I played this tonight alongside the new All That Remains and All Time Low albums. Those two will both contest the top spot for modern rock albums of the year for me so far, whereas this Halestorm one will contest the worst modern rock album of the year (that I bother to rate) so far.

I was okay with Apocalyptic and Amen being what they were as I figured they were the possibly the "commercial" songs designed to grab the radio audience and more popular crowd. I was sorta figuring that those songs paired with more traditional sounding Halestorm would make for a good album....but that isn't the case at all.

I agree that it's sorta techno-modern and almost Nickelback like modern rock. I've listened to the full album 3 times through and have liked it less each time. I still don't mind a couple tunes on it and will probably download them...But it's not what I was hoping for and is a big letdown for me.

I'm not sure I'll completely put them off my radar as they still have a body of work that I've liked, but this album will make me pause a bit and I won't be pre-ordering any future albums.

I don't know exactly why but I'm really not that impressed. Honestly, there are only about 3 or 4 songs I really have the desire to want to listen to again.

I just think the rock element has been toned down quite a bit as well as not really having the hooks/harmonies that the last album had. I mean, almost every song on the last album got stuck in my head and don't see that happening with this release.

Maybe it'll grow on me at some point but I suspect that outside of Apocalyptic and maybe Amen, the rest will be forgettable for me.

After hearing the full album stream, I've even cancelled my pre-order that I had placed for the album. I'm thinking I'll be better off in this case just buying the couple songs I like.

I loved their last album and probably would've rated it a solid 95 out of 100. I'm not sure where I'd put this new album but my initial reaction would be 75-80.

That is exactly why they chose an album cover like that.. They don't want anyone to have any preconceived idea about the band... They want the music to speak for itself.

 

I've heard the whole release in it's entirety (many times).. I don't think many people will be disappointed at all. A very solid release.

 

I just hope the album doesn't give people the wrong idea about the band. I mean, when I look at that album cover, it looks sorta "poppy" to me and my expectations would be almost to hear something like One Direction. It just doesn't look like a melodic rock cover to me for some reason....maybe it's the pastel colors or something...

They do sound great though and I'm not sure covers are all that important anymore in this download age...so hope it all works out for them.

I've had the chance to work with Station a bit. The whole release is great.. it is hard to even pick a favorite song. Look for 3 new videos to be released before April 30th. Station will also be playing my annual "M-Pre Party" on April 30, 2015 in Columbia, Maryland. If any HH members are in the area just contact me and I'll hook them up for the show.

 

It is going to be a great year for this band.

I've only heard the EP songs and the latest single....I'd have to point to Everything and this newest song as my favorites so far. I'd heard enough to pre-order it though and looking forward to hearing the rest. Hoping they can keep the same style throughout with hooks and harmonies....and rock of course.

I guess I don't see many new bands putting music out with this vibe in the US these days so it's refreshing to see.

Hmmm, not sure what to make of that one. Doesn't really sound much like Hinder, but I guess it's not bad. I dunno, listening on a laptop without earphones and I trust it would sound better if I listened properly, but yeah, it's not amazing. But not bad...

I tend to agree....Nothing really pulling me into this new lineup. The two new songs are okay I guess but their sound seems to have moved to commercialized pop-rock with country undertones or something and is a long way from the sound of their first couple albums.

These guys have moved off my radar and I'm hearing nothing to move them back on.

Got a reply on Twitter from Steve Brown saying that they're hoping to release a single around the end of April/early May with album out in early June.

I really enjoyed the last album...I think mainly because I had zero expectations from it and it sorta surprised me. Hoping they can just offer up another good dose of melodic rock on this release.
