  1. I just recently gave Tango Down a look since I saw they were on the roster for Melodic Rock Fest 4 the day I'm going....

Not sure why I never paid any attention to them in the past...Think I was caught up with H.e.a.t's Address The Nation album too much in 2012 or something.

Anyways..I recently bought the Identity Crisis CD pretty much on a whim after hearing one or two songs that intrigued me. Gotta say I'm pretty impressed with the whole album overall and it's grown on me. It's sorta fallen into the slightly heavier, 80's influenced, melodic rock category that I like....not too far away from something like what H.e.a.t has done with their past 2 albums. I wouldn't put it quite in the same league as H.e.a.t...But it still sounds pretty good to my ears. Tunes like Alone, Back To Life, Cryin' To Me sorta reeled me in and also really like the mid-tempo song Corners of My Mind.

Now looking forward to seeing these guys at MRF4 and seeing how the new album follows up Identity Crisis. I think the new album is due out in early August.

  2. I'm with you...

I tried a few songs off In Progress...Too light and too many keyboards for me. I generally like the slightly heavier side of the AOR spectrum. I never really got into bands like Toto/Survivor/Journey...And my initial reaction was that is where Work Of Art seems to fall.

Not that there is anything wrong with those bands....All huge bands with big followings that probably define traditional AOR. I just like stuff with a tiny bit more punch to it. For me, the past 2 H.e.a.t albums are exactly what I like :)

I 'm willing to give Framework a chance though as some initial reports are that it is a bit heavier. It wouldn't take much for it to fall into my wheelhouse.

This one will be killer! I can't believe the negative comments. The two first releases were so damn fine.

Well, if you don't like AOR, you don't like AOR. But, yes, this should be at the top of every AOR fan's Most Wanted list.

I don't mind some AOR, but I like it with a little umph.

  3. Sorry...But I have to agree with Glen :)

Loud Lion has absolutely zero originality and is basically just a cover-type, tribute album. I suppose it's fine for what it is but If I want to listen to something with that sound, I'll just listen to Def Leppard's Hysteria and hear it done the right way.

Ha ha Loud Lion above HEAT...that made me laugh.

  4. From Frontiers Records facebook page:

Back in 2012, we released the first new studio album of original material from TRIXTER in 20 years! Happy to announce that the wait for the next album will be a lot shorter as the band has just inked a new deal with us and we'll be putting out their new studio album in 2015!

I thought New Audio Machine was a very good melodic rock album and if I had to make a top 10 list of my favorite albums over the past 5 years, that one would likely make the cut somewhere....

Interested to see how they follow it up.

  5. I guess I don't have keen ears...I really don't hear that. Maybe it just sounds better on my CD player or something....

Or perhaps my ears aren't that tuned in...which could very well be. I am married after all and have gotten pretty good at only hearing what I want to hear :)

I've heard a few people also say they don't like the mix on H.e.a.t's Tearing Down The Walls album as well with similar comments that it's recorded too loud and is muddy....I just don't hear it....Sounds awesome to me...

Maybe I'd never make it as a sound engineer :)

I thought the production was awful. This one's a gruesome casualty of the loudness war with every track pegged to the max and sounding completely flat and lifeless. It's a shame because the music was good, but I find it difficult to listen to.

  6. I apologize if this is the wrong forum...But these guys seem to fit in the rock category in my opinion...

I just got wind of this band recently and was surprised I've never heard of them before as they've apparently been around for a bit and recently underwent a name change, members change and changed label/management. I picked up the Radioactivity album (2013 released) after hearing a couple tunes on You Tube that I liked. I just wanted something different to listen to as I've pretty much been listening to H.e.a.t's Tearing Down the Walls nonstop since it came out.....Generally, I'm more of an AOR/Melodic rock/80's hair band type of guy which is why I frequent this forum....

Anyways, I've found myself taking a liking to this album. It may not be the most original thing in the world...But I'm liking it just the same. I'd say they're some sort of combination of Nickelback/Hinder/Three Days Grace. The album was produced by Brian Howes...a guy who I believe was involved with Hinder's first two albums (which I also enjoyed) and has also worked with Nickelback and Daughtry.

Overall, I think the production is very good and this doesn't feel like something that was just tossed together....lots of hooks, riffs and it just sounds good cranked in the car. Again...Not really groundbreaking by any means, but I really don't care if something sounds good. And honestly, I don't listen to much of this type of modern rock so it sounds fairly fresh to me and not overdone. Overall, I've just found myself digging this album pretty much from top to bottom. Just thought somebody might like to check these guys out if you've never heard of them. I've tried to add links to a couple videos...

    Bombs Away:

    Broken:

    Did It For Love:

  7. I just saw this thread and thought I'd chime in on this album. I have to say I pretty much agree with Geoff....

I'll say I've been a big Daughtry fan and have really enjoyed all his albums before Baptized. His style was pretty much commercial rock and I was okay with that...

I say "was" because to me, this new album I really don't see much "rock". Frankly, One Direction might rock more than Daughtry does on this album.

I was excited about this album...even pre-ordered it which I rarely do anymore. Boy, was I disappointed. This album sounds like it was done with Daughtry laying some vocals over a bunch of computer generated backing tracks (which I'm pretty sure was actually the case).

The beginning of the album is okay....But Battleships starts to lose me with all the Boom Boom nonsense. I'll Fight and Wild Heart are okay...And it would be fine if they were sorta the change of pace tracks for some heavier tracks...But what follows basically just sticks a fork in me and turns it...

Long Live Rock N Roll is okay...But I really don't like the idea of singing about the history of rock n roll with some acoustic, almost Country sounding type of song. However, this again would be fine if it was a change of pace song for some bigger rocking songs...However, what follows is a string of ballads which pretty much kill the rest of the album for me and the end of the album doesn't recover. Although honestly, I have a hard time even making it to the end. I bought the Deluxe version with the bonus tracks and they don't do anything to help either....pretty much only add to the misery.

Overall, this album is just missing the type of rock songs that Daughtry has been doing. I mean...we weren't talking about real heavy rock songs to begin with...But this album is basically a total departure IMO. I honestly put it away about a week after I got it and doubt I'll ever the slightest urge to pull it out again. I just really don't like the direction that was taken on this album. It's basically a pop album in my opinion that should be categorized with somebody like Maroon 5.

Not that there is anything wrong with that music...It's just not what I listen to and not what I was expecting.

Safe to say I won't be buying the next Daughtry album sight unseen....If at all.

I'll try to explain my point, but I am mega disappointed with this one - probably the most disappointed of any album this year. But the songs are all very good, you correctly say! Every song has a great catchy chorus, with well written, big hooks in each tune, you correctly say! And song for song, it's arguably his most consistent album yet, you arguably say.

So why does it frustrate the hell out of me?

Because the ma'fukker just never "takes off." Every single song just floats, or lingers if you will, in the same freakin' spot. On almost every single tune you're just waiting, praying, for the drums, guitars and band to just say hi, and drop in. But every song is the same... just holding back with that same stripped, refrained vibe, with no real visit from the band at all.

Like I say, the quality of the songs are good and each song on it's own is very good - but as an album it just annoyed the shit out of me and I spent a full album's worth of songs just waiting for it to "rock," for lack of a better world. It seems to be the way modern rock bands go, but it's sad to see Daughtry not utilize his band at all on this one... :(

  8. I also just found out about these guys...gave Radioactivity a chance and I'm digging it. I think its a well produced modern rock album with plenty of hooks. I'm hearing some combination of Nickelback/ Hinder/Three Days Grace...

Favorite tunes are Bombs Away, Broken, Did It For Love...But honestly I find myself not skipping anything on it and it sounds great cranked in the car :)

It may not be totally original...but I'm liking it anyways. Hope these guys have the opportunity to do another album to see how they follow this up.

  9. I've been checking these guys out and listening to the songs on You Tube...Pretty much agree with Geoff...

Right Track seems to be the highlight for me....Overall though, I'm having a tough time getting past many of the cheesy, cliche lyrics...."Roll the dice until you're on ice"...."Spin me round like a merry- go round".....are a couple lines that come to mind. And the Rock It Our song seems like a reworked version of Europe's Rock The Night to me...

I do like a lot of their elements and they have some potential with better song writing...IMO.

I threw a solid 77% on a solid, but for me not overly spectacular CD. It's on from start to end and that's nice. But for me there's not a song here that blows my mind, even though there's nothing I even remotely dislike either. Very good, well produced and tight sound. I hope they stick around and kill it with their 2nd album.

  10. I'm interested to see what these guys come up with for their next album....

I loved the New Religion album...I'm a sucker for big production, hooks, backing vocals, riffs, etc....That album got a lot of play for me...

I bought Riot Avenue when it came out hoping for more of the same and really wasn't more of the same IMO....I just didn't hear the same production...Song structures seemed pretty straight forward and the hooks/harmonies/backing vocals were gone. It was just a let down for me and I sold the album on Ebay within a week of getting it.

As for Sympathy....It sounds more along the Riot Avenue lines to me....Maybe a little better than Riot Avenue...

I've got my eye on them though and Laney producing could be good news.

  11. Agree...

I used to watch this show...But completely left it last year as it became apparent the show was more about the judges than the contestants. I tried returning this year and watched most of the auditions...But I've just soured on the whole ordeal of these shows....and it still seemed to me the producers spent more time trying to make the judges likable than worrying about the contestants.

I do remember this guy from auditions and he was clearly above the other contestants....

Will be interesting to see what happens with him...

We actually got this series "hours after the US" in Australia this time. Odd, as we rarely get US Idol at all.

But I kept tabs on the whole series without really ever seeing a full episode at all. Dude has a huge voice, and it was evident from basically the start of the show that he was going to win it too. A pretty weak top 12 overall, imo, and he was a clear standout. The top 3 were all good but the rest not so much. The sexy girl with the purple hair, who came 4th, was terrible. And she was 4th!

  12. I've tried a few things on your list....Haven't really found much that has interested me in 2014 outside of H.e.a.t's Tearing Down the Walls album.....

I think my main problem is that I'm so into that album that everything else is sounding inferior to me. That album just aligns perfectly with my tastes these days.

I'll probably give some of these other things more of a fighting chance as the year moves on.

  13. Exactly right...I just don't get it.

I was looking at the following article that I found pretty interesting that shows approximate booking fees for certain artists...

    http://priceonomics.com/how-much-does-it-cost-to-book-your-favorite-band/

I can say with 100% honesty that I would rather see H.e.a.t than any other artist listed in the 100K+ club....Frankly, I see around 30 artists on that 100K+ list that I've never even heard of before.

Maybe I'm just getting old or I'm just that out of touch with the music scene...

Or maybe the US music scene has just gotten really, really lame :)

Not bad for a small band like them. Could sell 10,000 easily if they're still in 1988 maybe

Saw them Monday night in Manchester and the couple who I went with agreed with me that they wont be playing small venues for long. It was like being back in the 80s too, watching a great band enjoying themselves onstage. Ive got a few gigs lined up this year but will be surprised if any will top this one.

Hopefully they make it to a bigger venue, sad to see artist like Myles Cyrus or Beiber fillin' stadium instead of em

  14. I'm heading to this for just one of the 3 days..

H.e.a.t is really the band I'm interested in seeing for their first ever US show :)

I do wish W.e.t were on the bill again...

I appreciate the effort to organize something like this and give these bands an opportunity to play here in the US since they don't get many (or any) other opportunities.

  15. Thanks for some of the thoughts on this...went ahead and ordered the deluxe edition of Stranger Case of after pretty much listening to each song on You Tube....And finding that I wanted to listen to them again....

I kinda like that it's different than any other CD I currently own....But also still catchy with hooks and seemingly great production.....and rocks.

Maybe I can get my 13 year old daughter listening to this instead of the teenie bop stuff she normally listens to :)

  16. I know I'm digging up an old thread...but searching around for something different to listen to...

Checked out some reviews of The Stranger Case of...many are very positive. Also checked out many of the songs on you tube...gotta say I'm intrigued. Songs are catchy...full of hooks...and rock.

Gotta say female fronted stuff isn't usually my cup of tea...I mean...it just feels weird sometimes singing along with songs from a female's point of view...

But I may make an exception here...maybe I can pretend it's an old girlfriend singing or something....lol.

Just wanted to see what others thought about this album after having spent time with it....Did it hold up well?

  17. I just got this album and went looking for a thread to see what others thought about it...

I'm pleasantly surprised with it....Had never really listened to this band before...

I like the solid production, hooks, harmonies, riffs, etc....Obviously some Leppard/Tesla/80's influences coming through on this album IMO.

Every now and then I go looking for something different to check out that is in my wheelhouse of tastes....And this is fitting the bill at the moment :)
