  1. Hmmm...It's okay.  I dig Erik's vocals and overall the music sounds good.  It definitely rocks.

Not sure I care much for whatever is going on with the chorus though with the group chorus thing or whatever.   I think something different there might've made me dig it more.

Erik sounds great though and this could grow on me some.  That said, still much prefer what he was doing in H.E.A.T to this.

yr honourable mention destroys most of that top 10 imo.

I sure hope we get some more music from Ronnie 🙏

I liked it but didn't love it for whatever reason.  I guess I just wish it was a bit heavier/edgier but I know the point was to do something a bit different .  I'd say I Prophesize is among my favorite tunes this year though.

Think I saw another solo album is expected in the spring of 2022.

  3. As we approach the end of the year, not aware of anything else coming out that will be changing my final list...

    As of now for me...

    1)  Midnite City - Itch You Can't Scratch

    2)  Eclipse - Wired

    3)  Temple Balls - Pyromide

    4)  Crazy Lixx - Street Lethal

    5)  Dangerous Curves - Summertime Highs

    6)  Nestor - Kids In A Ghost Town

    7)  Wet - Retransmission

    8)  Maverick - Ethereality

    9)  Wicked Smile - Wait For The Night

    10) Walk the Walk - S/T

Honorable mention:  Ronnie Atkins - One Shot

Really strong year overall for me as it's been awhile since I've even been able to do a legit top 10.

Going to give this band another shot. I was so totally turned off by the vocals when their first EP dropped. Haven't really even bothered.

    Did the vocals improve??

I'd say yes.  Think the singer has matured and gained more control.  That debut EP and even first album has some very screechy vocals.

Check songs from Carnival Days like The Crown, War of Mine, People Like Us, etc. Or check songs from Vibration like Revolution and Do You.

If you still don't like those tunes, then move on 😀

    I'd probably go...

    New Religion

    Ruff Justice

    Forever Wild

    Loud Minority

    Crazy Lixx

    Street Lethal

    Riot Avenue

I'm not too far away from you...

    For me, its:

    New Religion

    Ruff Justice

    Forever Wild

    Street Lethal

    Crazy Lixx

    Loud Minority

    Riot Avenue

It's almost a tie for me between Forever Wild and Street Lethal but I have to knock Lethal down a notch being it's only really 9 tracks.

no way in a million years is this album better than the debut

I was just never that taken by the debut and rarely listen to it.  Think I only have 3 tunes off it in my main playlist...Hollywood, Want It and Love On The Run.   Heroes Are Forever is good too but I prefer the reworked version on the s/t album.

Maybe I need to revisit it sometime.

Very solid album! 2 instrumentals are a waste and could have used the time for a 3 plus minute "song". Thief is a good song, but did not need to be over 7 minutes. 2 play throughs and the stand outs are, Rise Above, In The Middle, One Fire for me but NO bad songs at all.

    Feel the same.

Don't like the 2 instrumentals at all and have already removed those from my spotify playlist.  Feel exactly the same about Thief....I basically listen to the first 4 minutes and then skip back to Rise Above at the start.

They should've just cut that Final Fury song down to 30-45 seconds and added it as the beginning of Street Lethal.  Then should've added another 3 minute tune of some sort to have 10 actual songs.

My standouts are Rise Above, Anthem for America, Caught Between Rock N Roll and In The Middle of Nothing.  I like the Power quite a bit too.  But every song is an enjoyable listen.

I do dig the album quite a bit.  I think I'd probably put it 3rd in their discography behind New Religion and Ruff Justice if I were ranking their albums.

    @tts42572 I was thinking I might tag you in a Power Metal thread once a week, or so, to show you what the genre can offer. Maybe we can introduce you to your new favourite band you may have missed otherwise. ;}

Happy to check stuff out but I'm pretty stuck in my ways :)

Well, Power Metal and Speed Metal are two different things. Maybe we'll have to ease you into this "new" genre.

    ;}

I suppose you probably do lol.

    There's heavy.....power.....speed....all gets a bit confusing!

I just know I was never much of a fan of any of the bands that were mentioned in the article.  I did like a few Iron Maiden tunes back in the day but not many.

I just need things like melody, big choruses, etc.  Not sure if we'll find those things much in this or not.

Erik definitely has one of the best voices in music IMO though and seems like this could be a good match for him.  Will be interesting to hear it.

Really amped for this - Huge fan of the genre and anything those 2 guys touch turns to gold.

First single ‘We Unite’ out November 29th.

    Yeah....Looking forward to hearing it.

I have to admit that I'm not a power metal guy though and I never even visit this part of the forum lol.  I'm a melodic rock/hard rock guy in general with my tastes perfectly matched to what they were doing in HEAT.  Although, I do dig the new Wicked Smile release which is a bit like melodic metal/hard rock.  I guess that's kind of what I'm hoping for style-wise with this in that it's more like melodic metal and that it doesn't become too over the top power/speed metal or something.

It's awesome to see Erik and Jona together again making music and I already know I definitely dig Erik's vocals so will definitely be checking this out.

  11. Erik and Jona starting a new heavy/power metal band called New Horizon.  First single out November 29th with album to follow.

Personally, not sure about this as I'm not big into power metal type stuff.  But will definitely at least give this a shot.

ONA TEE AND ERIK GRÖNWALL ANNOUNCE NEW POWER METAL BAND⠀
NEW HORIZON TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM IN 2022⠀
Vocalist Erik Grönwall and songwriter/producer/multi-multi-instrumentalist Jona Tee, former bandmates in H.E.A.T., have announced that they are continuing their musical partnership by unleashing New Horizon, their new power metal brainchild.⠀
The seeds of NEW HORIZON were planted in Jona’s youth given that he grew up listening to (and still loves) Iron Maiden, Helloween, Hammerfall, Manowar, Edguy, and the like. Heavy metal is in his blood and New Horizon is something that is flowing through his veins and extremely close to his heart. He always dreamed of releasing his own power metal anthems one day. When asked about the sound of New Horizon, Jona Tee describes it as "a mix between classic power and heavy metal, with a touch of the 21st century.”⠀
“It felt so natural to continue working together. We have toured together pretty much all over the world and released music together for a decade. Jona is truly like my brother, by blood, and New Horizon will be the catalyst for us to release great metal together and just have fun,” says Grönwall.⠀
The duo are currently wrapping up work on their debut album and more details will be released at a later date, including the first taste of music. ⠀
In the meantime, be sure to follow New Horizon on their newly launched social media channels and be sure to follow Jona and Erik's social media for updates as well. ⠀
  12. Listened to this....only one time through so far.  Quite clear the vibe of this album is like 80's fighting movies/inspirational "Rocky"/"Karate Kid" type stuff after we had a horror vibe with Ruff Justice and a carefree summer vibe with Forever Wild.

At least initially, the first half feels stronger or maybe just more instant to me than the second half.  For me, the first 3 songs (after the short into tune) are just fantastic.  We'd basically already heard the first 2 but really dig The Power also.

One thing I absolutely don't like is the 2 minute musical interlude Final Fury.  It seems pointless to me and it just breaks up the momentum of the album.  I'm just not a fan of this type of stuff especially in the middle of albums.  They should've just cut this down to 30-45 seconds and made it part of the next tune IMO.  This will definitely be a skip and it's easy enough to just eliminate it once it hits streaming :)

Second half still pretty good...bit more varied.  I suspect there could be growers for me with some of these.  Caught Between The Rock N Roll has kind of a cool vibe to it.

Overall the album feels a little bit short being that it's really only 9 tunes with 2 musical bits.  I suppose the last song is like 2 songs in one though clocking in over 7 minutes.  Either way, still kind of feels like there should be one more song or something.

    Good stuff though :headbanger:.

  13. Nice....Kissin' Dynamite it January and then this in Feb.  Hopefully Shiraz Lane will be shortly after that as I know they're recording now so would think March/April would be a realistic target for them.

Will be tough to top what's come out in 2021 but that would be a good start to the year ;)

One song that hasn't really been mentioned that I really dig is "Perfect Ten". It perfectly captures the tone of the era. I remember being a college kid in the mid-late 1980s and Demi Moore was everyone's heartthrob.

Yeah, this is an interesting tune.  I didn't quite know if I liked it at first as it's a little bit poppy but it's catchy and has grown on me with repeated listens.

Little bit surprised I like this album as much as I do as it's definitely out of my normal Eclipse, Crazy Lixx, HEAT, Midnite City type comfort zone.  I think that's kind of why I like it though, just a different, interesting listen.

Agree with Glenn that it was probably a bit overhyped but still a good album that I like more than I thought I would.  Also pretty impressive considering the circumstances being a debut album with probably a fairly limited budget.  Will be interesting to see if they can build on this with future releases.

really? That is an excellent ballad imo. sounds a bit Bond like. I really liked that.

Yeah, I don't know.  It's okay but just kind of a let down after the epic 1989 which is the highlight of the album for me.  And I do like Tomorrow and We Are Not Ok more.  I guess I just generally also don't care for ballads as the last track of albums....especially when there had been 2 ballads a couple tracks earlier.

Really good though.  I'm not sure if it'll crack my top 5 but will be top 10 for sure.  It's just been such a great year for music though.  I mean, if this had come out last year it probably would've easily been my #2 album.
