100% where I'm at. I just don't get it. It always amazes me how bands can make belting guitars and drums sound boring as fuck. I don't know how it's possible, but Dynazty have mastered it and these guys are following suit. I feel absolutely nothing at all listening to that.

Whereas this legit gave me chills. No prizes for guessing what he he excels at. Very sad if his heart is with making pointless music instead of the stuff that sounds like his heart is actually in it.

I couldn't agree more with you guys.

It's well done for what it is I guess.  But I listened to that and have zero desire to listen to it again.  It's just boring.  it's just not catchy and nothing about it moves me or gets stuck in my head.

It probably doesn't help that I've been listening to Degreed today which is so catchy and well done and then I click on this.  It's nowhere in the same league as Degreed.

It's kind of ironic.  Gronwall was at the top of his game with HEAT when Degreed signed onto Gronwall's management company for some direction.  Now it seems Gronwall is the one who could use some direction.  I'm glad he's back making music and healthy.  But for me this is an utter waste of talent.

  2. Couple listens on this....

For me, even after only a couple listens, I feel like this is already my favorite album of theirs top to bottom.  Catchy tunes, nice variety and the sonics also stand out to me.

I feel like a lot of these songs are the types of songs that should be played on mainstream rock radio today if radio played any decent music.  I know we could say that about a lot of bands but these guys just have a commercial vibe about them.  They're like a much cooler version of Daughtry or something....or I guess more like what Daughtry should be going for lol.

I'd say my early favs are Into The Fire, Higher, Radio, Falling Down and Lost in Paradise.  But it's all well done IMO and really like the more focused approach here.  And glad there are no instrumentals taking away from the pacing like the last album ;)

  3. Very tough one as Warrant and Poison were both played very heavily by me and both were among my favorite bands at that time.  Firehouse also is a favorite as is that Lynch Mob album.  And Slaughter was great too.  Very good year for music!

I'm going with Warrant though and I'll say Mr Rainmaker as my favorite song off it.

It is a great song, seems to be in the same vein as the songs on the debut album. Makes me wonder if they wrote this one back then but the song did not get on the album for some reason. Some of the lyrics really seem similar to Ghosts Of My Old Friends. Miles plays a great solo but it is short and sweet like on a lot of the first album. I hope the other new song they release is as good as this one.

    C.H.

I think I heard Rob Wylde say that both songs were newly written and recorded.  Don't quote me on that though ;)

I know he also said they debated if they should save these songs for their next album as opposed to using them as bonus tracks in this fashion but they wanted to give people a little extra incentive to buy these re-issues.

Either way, agree that it does fit in well with the rest of the songs on the debut.

  5. Another excellent tune!

I'll probably get suckered into buying the re-issues and maybe will just sell my original CD's on ebay or something.

Have to say though it's a little disappointing the new song isn't on spotify.  I get why it isn't to push sales of the re-issues, but I really don't listen to CD's much anymore.  Shame to have a good tune that I probably won't listen to much.

  6. Spotify premium here.  Used to be a diehard anti-streamer but as CD players were removed from cars, just made sense to try streaming.

And have to say I quickly grew to love having so much music at my fingertips and the ability to easily make playlists on the fly.  I find myself listening more often and listening to more stuff.

I still buy a handful CD's per year but I really don't know why as I don't know the last time I listened to one.  I guess I just like the feeling that I still feel like I own some albums and supporting the artists.

I pretty much agree with your take on this....the only real issue with what is going on for me is that the unvaccinated are still filling hospitals and preventing people from getting surgeries and health care for things not called covid....and I don't have an answer as to how to fix this problem....the feds in most countries have decided to tackle the issue through mandates but I think that we just have to weather the storm and hope that this mythical thing called herd immunity occurs.....

    Exactly my thoughts.

I could care less if people get vaccinated.  But part of me would hope that if somebody is that against modern medicine, then stay out of the hospital if you come down with it.  I mean, if you didn't trust medicine enough to begin with to take the vaccine, don't ask medicine for help later and take resources away from others.

I guess the problem though is that our health care system isn't built to discriminate against stupidity.  I mean, our hospitals have to treat people that do dumb things every day from taking drugs to cutting their fingers off with saws, popping wheelies with dirt bikes or whatever else.  So I guess it's not fair to say they shouldn't treat anti-vaxers that come down with covid.

The reality of it though is that many of our hospitals have been overwhelmed with anti-vaxers that got covid and it's frustrating that it most likely could've been prevented with a simple jab.

I said a ways back in this thread.  I know somebody that went to a local ER awhile back with stomach pain and sat in the ER for 12 hours before getting seen because of short staff and so many dealing with COVID issues.  Turned out that person had a appendicitis and it ended up rupturing and they got rushed into emergency surgery after finally telling the ER staff they were in unbearable pain.  That person almost died because they didn't get the treatment they should've gotten.

I just want to get back to the point when colds were "normal" and we didn't cancel life as soon as somebody got the sniffles.  I'm tired of covering for fellow employees that get mandated to stay home because they're positive with COVID even though they feel fine.  I'm tired of having to watch my kid play basketball with a mask on even though 90% of the kids just wear them around their necks.  And I'm tired of not being able to do things I want to do like concerts, cruises, travel, etc because of COVID mandates and issues.

    Agree.  Sounding really good.

Really digging the sound of Higher....that one sounds like it needs to be a single to me.  Also really digging the vibe of Lost In Paradise.

I have to say that if modern melodic rock were played on radio, these guys have a sound that would be perfect for it.

Dead But Not Forgotten has remained my favorite album from these guys but this one sounds like it might have a shot to top it.

your obsession with Erik is kinda creepy ;)

but I have to agree here - if he was singing the songs like Cross to Bear and Make a Stand it would be far far better

    Lol.

That was just my point though.  I feel like he'd be perfect singing those Crowne tunes and the style of those songs suits my tastes.

This New Horizon stuff really doesn't fit my tastes and Erik feels a bit wasted on that project....At least for me.  Maybe I'll find a few good tunes on it....we'll see.  Haven't gotten into the first 2 singles though.

I suppose I'm still bummed he left HEAT ;)

So I know, now, why this wasn't familiar to me. I kept avoiding this thread because of Alex Strandell. Not a fan of his voice; he sounds like he's always struggling. And the Spotifies also kept trying to recommend this to, constantly throwing some of these songs into my playlists. But I would skip them.

Anyways, I decided to give the album a listen, because it made Dan's top spot. First time through I was impressed. Musically it's great. But on the second playthrough his voice started to irritate me.

I might add a couple songs to my "Liked" playlist.

    Exactly my thoughts.

It's something I should like style-wise and musically it's right in my wheelhouse of tastes.  And there's a couple okay tunes.

But Strandell's voice has grown to annoy me for whatever reason.  He's a fine singer and not sure exactly why he's bothering me but he is.

I wish Erik Gronwall was the singer on this Crowne project and Strandell was the singer on the New Horizon stuff.  Then this would be awesome and I could completely ignore New Horizon which I'm struggling getting into musically ;)

This is very likely my pick for the best album of 2022…amazing!

It's tough to say this in January but feeling the same.

I don't feel like these guys are generally thought of in the same breath as bands like Eclipse, Crazy Lixx, etc.  Maybe that's because they used to be a bit heavier and almost more power metal with their earlier stuff.  Or maybe those other bands get more attention being on Frontiers.  Either way, they've clearly evolved and are making their case with this release.

Just a fantastic album.  Plenty of good rockers but also nice variety that keeps it interesting throughout.
